Social (Network) Hygiene
Something that will never seem to leave us is this idea of Social Networking with computers. Computers are now a way to talk to people, because going out and talking to somebody is now passe. Eechi DNA will need to do something it will call Social (Network) Hygiene as part of its runnings
Your computer is your online body. The software and the hardware determine how you will fair when moving about online. How the internet is currently exists has several designated social zones... or so it seems... which doesn't make sense, really.
E-Echidna will do what a network system must do. It should make your communications transparent to how they actually run... so as to not confuse the users... or really confuse the users.
This means E-echidna will not only need a built in client for Facebook, Twitter, Hi-5, Google Plus, My Space and all the other thousands of Social Networks out there... but it should feel like your computer is your profile for those pages. With you loading an image--and rather than clicking "upload", clicking a tab for "visible to these gathering places"... and more importantly "visible to these friends", with E-Echidna moving to be a free flowing online body that does not appear to need these social networks, except to meet other online bodies, then talk directly outside of them.
The other element is video chat would need to be worked in and done seamlessly. Maybe even bridging over different video networks.
The terrible thing is KDE4 has all the capability to do this... but it is hidden under several systems and subsystems, and to even know it exists you have to be able to program C++.
This part is mostly figuring out how to lay out information on a screen to invite people to set up their information with each social network, and then have a news feed system appear as method of using Eechi DNA. Since KDE is all about customisability, it would need to figure out some way to be modified.
The worst part is I still want users to be doing the more intense processer stuff on a computer. You know... watching a movie, playing a game, working on a graphic of some kind. Each of those really are not likely to be done in KDE4 as things currently are. The Movie and game would need to go into the desktop itself. With the panel having display cases, based upon what the app below it is doing.
Either way--laying out of information will not really be easy. I'm thinking just having icons for each social network. These icons may text bubble to give a summary of new activity, give a "somebody is talking" animation, and possibly set up so the text bubble floats away in a direction with words, for a length of the screen. People who are showing a high level of activity (with this system to see if any networks are linked in any way), will get their own icon, with similar bubble behavior as the networks. RSS feeds, will need to really be worked out... but will probably bubble anything not grabbed before and stuff.
The result may end up having a movie unwatchable due to too many social network items. Most websites follow similar enough software, or a pattern in design or concept (or people making it) that for viewing them, the web browser might just check if there is an app for handling this information, and have that run the information instead.
Unfortunately one of the main issues with KDE4 currently is load time. Which is rather unfortunate. The main idea is that KDE4 is more a set of libraries and applications are meant to arrange those libraries. One of the main things with Eechi DNA will be, is modify the KDE4 code to reflect this concept more. Maybe mess with how it handles internal linking and what not.
The website application would load up as just part of the browser... and the user is allowed to tell the browser to view the HTML version. Though the website application may run better than the HTML version.
This mixed in with likely entering the Metaverse as the desktop. Social Network stuff would appear as part of the hub, and the Metaverse could be second life, open life or some other project. With this being a stripped down, modified or other way worked, for the purposes of E-Echidna Computer System.
The idea is, we should not be running what look like decks. Why aren't we? I want to get to a point where I have Eechi DNA system far enough along, I can load it onto custom mininotebooks, and call the lines Echidna-Sedia I,II,III,IV,etc.
