ânever againâ
This image is one of the most powerful pro-choice images Iâve ever seen. When I saw it in the newspaper I immediately cut it out and hung it on my wall.
This is not my image. Iâm using it with permission from Arthur Newspaper.
The sad part is a lot of people donât even understand what the hanger represents. Awful.
abortions will always occur, letâs make them as safe as possible.
hundreds of thousands of women died and continue to die due to no access to safe and legal abortion care. Â abortion access is a life or death issue.
Iâm not sure what love is, but I think itâs hearing her say, âYouâre an asshole,â while her smile betrays the words that just came out of her mouth. Itâs getting a FaceTime call at eight in the morning so she can show you her outfit, because she thinks she looks really cute that day. I think love is blurting out exactly how you feel about her when she asks you why youâre looking at her âlike that.â Itâs unplanned and sloppy, the exact opposite of how you wanted it to happen; but the smile on her face tells you that it was perfect in its own way. Love is being afraid to let her know about certain parts of yourself, but telling her anyways. Itâs making breakfast with her in the morning, dancing with her despite your two left feet, and passionately singing the wrong lyrics just to hear her laugh. Iâm not sure what love is, but it just might be magic.

Isnât it nice how people twist their religious scripture to suit their weds but when itâs used against them itâs suddenly not okay
I talked to a monk about this quote once (we have mutual friends, and he came to a New Yearâs Eve party at my shared art studio). He said this isnât even talking about homosexuality. That the bible never actually says homosexuality is wrong. What that passage means is this:
Women were treated as subservient and it that you shouldnât treat other men as subservient, like they are beneath you. It is not talking about homosexuality. If it was, it would say it outright since the bible lists other things outright.
I take the word of a monk who have studied the bible extensively more than a self proclaimed Christian.
The above text, I would like to point out is from the point of view of this translation of the original Hebrew. I spoke with my cousinâs rabbi on the matter and his response was different, saying that it was a mistranslation. See, the true translation says that a man shall not lie with another in the bed of a woman, which is to say, the Hebrews had a shit ton of rules about when a man was or was not allowed in a womanâs bed and private quarters (including, if she didnât want you there, you werenât allowed there. Hebrew women were also allowed to divorce their husbands and the image of the âoppressive Hebrew peopleâ is an image that was propogated by Christianity which, historically speaking, doesnât treat the Jewish people too well and liked to paint them as being rather barbaric and backwards and cultish with their traditions, which, another piece of fun info, their traditions were one of the main reasons why the Jewish people were less likely, in medieval times, to die of the plague. Because washing your hands and avoiding the dead and vermin and the like was a lot of help. Of course the Christians persecuted them for not dying but thatâs another matter. Iâm sidetracked). So the verse is literally saying âDonât fuck in some ladyâs bed because thatâs just goddamn rudeâ
Also, whenever a Christian brings the book of Leviticus up, you should feel free to point out that these are rules that were given to make the Hebrew people prepared for when the son of God came to earth. In Christianity, itâs believed the son of God was Jesus. So by following the rules set in Leviticus or pushing them as things we should follow, theyâre saying that Jesus was not the son of God, and that Jesus did not, in fact, die for our sins. Jewish people believe, in their faith, that the son of God hasnât yet been born, so many choose to follow these rules.
Most people of course roll their eyes when I explain the translation of the verse (full breakdown found here) but itâs always fun to point out the nature of the rules in Leviticus and the implications of following them.Â
Iâm a theology student and I am on the verge of crying because of how accurate this commentary is. Historical context is simultaneously the most interesting and most important part of interpreting any texts.Â
Most religious people seem to base their beliefs on things that are severely mistranslated. I wish they would do their research before using the bible for hate.
I studied theology extensively and was going to become a theologist until I switched majors. The above commentary is 100% accurate and what I try to stress in a lot if conversations with Bible Thumpers.
Jesus also affirms the homosexual relationship between the Roman Centurion and his âslaveâ. The particular Greek word used to refer to this special slave was âpaisâ. Greek language studies and contexts show that a âpaisâ was a male love slave. Regular slaves were called âdolosâ. The Centurion makes this distinction clearly when he asks Jesus to heal his slave (pais), and then to prove his status he tells Jesus that his slaves (dolos) go when he tells them to. But this slave (pais) was special. He was the Centurionâs lover.
Hearing this, Jesus was so amazed he says he had not found ANYONE ELSE who had such great faith. He then blesses the Centurion and heals his male lover.
Matthew 8:5-13
THIS IS WHAT THE BIBLE REALLY TEACHES ABOUT SAME SEX COUPLES.
In short, the English adaptation is a mistranslated farce.

#TheHomelessPeriod exposes the unique menstruation problem homeless women faceÂ
The new campaign shines a light on homeless women who need assistance caring for their menstrual cycles. According to the Guardian, approximately 26% of people in the U.K. who receive âhomelessness servicesâ are female. But in most shelters, âsanitary ware or any kind of period ephemera is scarce,â Vice reported earlier this year. Three women have a plan to fix that.
I recently found out that Lily James, whoâs playing Cinderella in the upcoming Disney movie, initially auditioned for the role of an ugly stepsister. And idk why I find that oddly inspiring that you can see yourself as an ugly stepsister but the rest of the world will call you Cinderella
Saving Face (2012), acid attacks on women in Pakistan
Meanwhile, in America, feminists are complaining about how dress codes are oppressive.
You idiots have never experienced oppression, and pray you never do, because this is what it looks like.
As a South Asian American feminist, let me remind everyone that oppression is not a competition.
Just because we fight one type of sexism doesnât mean we donât care about other instances of sexism that donât affect us directly in our day to day lives.
My heart goes out to this woman and the hundreds of other victims like her. I want to educate people about these kinds of incidents. I support organizations that help women like this.
You may think that dress code issues are trivial, but they are related to a larger issue of womenâs bodily autonomy, which affects womenâs health and safety.
So please, letâs try to bring awareness and bring about change instead of insulting entire groups of people because they are facing issues that are less scary than the one presented.
âoppression is not a competitionâ
thank you so much for this wording
Every time someone, usually a guy, complains about feminists not experiencing oppression, I canât help but see what they are really trying to say.
"This is how men could be treating you, be grateful itâs only as bad as it is now."
And thatâs actually an attribute of abusers, I believe I read somewhere. To compare you to someone being treated worse and tell you you should be grateful you have it so good. It convinces the victim they should be silent in the face of their abuse.
Itâs literally an abuse tactic.Â
Every time someone says something like, âYou [âŚ] have never experienced oppression, and pray you never do, because this is what it looks like.â What they are saying is, âshut up, we could treat you worse if we wanted to.â

Things You Do Not Need to Apologize For (Nursing, and otherwise)
1. Barely making the minimum passing grades, even though you study consistently. 2. Being a straight A student, and not needing to devote painstaking hours to achieve it. 3. Choosing to not discuss your grades, good or otherwise. 4. Being slow to comprehend a concept, because youâd rather take some time to mull it over. 5. Needing more time on exams, aside of the 2 hours assigned. 6. Finishing exams before anyone else. 7. Saying no to, or missing out on social activities, because youâd rather be alone, reading, studying, listening to music, or just prefer taking a solo drive. 8. Being exceptionally good at something, to the point where people question you, your abilities, and how you âgot so goodâ at it. 9. Speaking up when you donât understand something, or disagreeing/debating a point everyone else seems to agree with. 10. Taking years to achieve your dreams - who âdecidesâ the deadline anyway?.
Women outnumber men in the nursing profession by more than 10 to 1. But men still earn more, a new study finds.
Even after controlling for age, race, marital status and children in the home, males in nursing outearned females by nearly $7,700 per year in outpatient settings and nearly $3,900 in hospitals.
