16.11.2020. extraordinarily overdue life update: I’ve decided to do an extra semester of uni, meaning I’ll graduate early 2022 instead of august 2021. overall it’s the best decision for my grades/résumé and mental health, giving me extra time to take a damn break, get more work experience, and take more relevant seminars and lectures. Things about journalism that tumblr never seems to grasp

Headlines have to be as streamline as possible. Aka, they can’t include names unless the article is about a well-known public figure.

Those “water is wet” articles do more then explain what you already know, they’re providing evidence and sources that support/explain what you already know.

Oh my god, there’s information after the headline.

journalists are required to use the word “alleged” or “allegedly” until the person they’re talking about has been found guilty in a court of law

“Water is wet” things have a history of being disproven when studied scientifically, shouldn’t be taken that uncritically, and not that many decades ago they were wall-to-wall misogyny and racism.

Ooh, I have one: The effort to verify something with quantifiable evidence isn’t...an insult to the original claim, or something.

Example: if a group of people has been claiming to experience workplace discrimination, and a study is conducted confirming that they are, in fact, experiencing workplace discrimination, the study isn’t evidence that the researchers “didn’t believe” that the discrimination was happening! It’s just the scientific method!!!

Like it’s really not about “doubting” that group of people’s experiences or some kind of insinuation that they’re lying about being discriminated against. Especially since the research is probably just...asking??? people????? so you can be like, “we asked 3,000 people about the workplace discrimination they have experienced using the following survey questions, here’s the breakdown of what they said.” Like no matter how much you “believe” people you still need that information in an organized and collected format to actually DO anything with it

Research is never redundant or unnecessary! It gets laws passed! It gets policies changed! It changes how we train educators and therapists and people in positions of power over the vulnerable!

just found out i’m supposed to study the subjects i’m not naturally proficient in instead of devoting all my time to the classes that don’t bore me to tears. apparently when i get low grades in a class i’m uninterested in i’m supposed to “work hard to make it up” instead of brushing it off and continuing to do my own thing? don’t know how to feel about this news.

Plot twist: if you are tired and burned out, resting is literally the most productive thing you can do. You ain’t gonna get shit done when you’re burned out. If you do, it’ll take three times as long, take even more energy out of you, and will also suck because you were too tired to do it well. When you’re too tired to do the things you want/need to do, resting is the first step.

9.12.20  ♡  94/100 days of productivity

We had a quiz every single day last week and thank god they’re over now. The average for one of our quizzes was a 50 though lmao rip. I got a higher score than the average despite still failing so I guess that counts for something? A part of it is also cause I didn’t realize I still had 3 more questions to answer until after it was over 😭 I really wish our assessments were on paper instead of an ipad. I’ve just been home this whole time besides going to work and I’m slowly losing my mind so I’ve been online shopping a lot to cope.

july 1, 2020 - take your time

hi hello! i’m finally back at it again. it feels weird to post normal content amidst everything that’s going on in the world, but i’m still doing what i can to stay informed and help others. i made this spread last week! i drew more doodles this time. the one on the bottom left is from the lyric video for the english version of “zombie” by day6. i also haven’t shared a playlist in a while, so here’s what i’ve been listening to lately!
