Marsupial Data Refinement. Because, y'know. Pouched mammals.

(was going to steal "macropod data refinement" from @minneral for this from when we discussed this, because that's some god tier wordplay right there, but unfortunately Irving is the only actual macropod here and I am nothing if not pedantic)

Mark S. is an Antechinus because I feel that the conflation of death and reproduction inherent to semelparity is thematically relevant to the character. Dylan G. is a Wombat because they too have the strength of two men. Helly R. is a Tiger Quoll because they are ginger and have the second strongest bite relative to body size of any extant mammal (while she is one of the two members of MDR who have yet to bite someone in canon I feel that she would still appreciate this). Irving B. is a Kangaroo for "attempted to drown someone" reasons.

Around the time I made my mermay post, I was getting into improv drawing, and so right after I finished it I began an improv drawing that started with a doodle very similar to the petsmart cup one featured in that post. From there it very very quickly spiraled completely out of control. I can't believe I'm finally done with it, oh my fucking god.

Oh yeah, and if you were wondering about the plants: floriography reasons. It's a longstanding hyperfixation of mine and I have a whole notes doc of severance characters plant associations and these are mostly just the ones I felt like drawing lmao. I'm more than okay with going into detail about my reasoning behind the ones included in this post, so if anyone wants me to just ask.

Someone ended up asking about the floriography on the community rb of this post, so once I went to the trouble of writing it all up I’m going to stick it here too (in tiny text bc this is already a bit long for an art post):

Lilac, when white, represents the innocence of youth, and more generally is associated with new love and the renewal of spring. However, for the Victorians, purple lilac was also the flower of widows.

Wormwood is representative of absence and of course bitterness, and dittany of crete is heavily associated with childbirth.

Shameplant means almost exactly what its name entails, and moonwort represents forgetfulness, but also transformation, sincerity, and monetary value. Cattails are symbolic of docility and gentleness, but also indiscretion and indecision.

Buttercups have a whole slew of more positive associations that are not dissimilar to that of a nostalgia-prone flower like the field daisy: purity, youth, new beginnings, etc, but interestingly enough on the whole its symbolism tends to skew more negatively that you’d initially think: immaturity, distrust, insincere flattery, doubt, unfaithfulness, ungratefulness even. Very in line with Mark Scout’s view of his innie post cabin scene lmao.

I made a whole bunch on Severance moodboards months ago and then promptly forgot to post them. When I say months, I mean I finished the oMark one in the interim between the release of the third and fourth episodes of season 2. I have a few more but I thought it'd be a bit much to have them all in one post given the formatting of this type of collage.

In descending order: Mark Scout, Mark S., Gemma Scout, Miss Casey, Helena Eagen, Helly R.

I made an attempt to have the boards representing each innie-outie pair have at least vaguely similar/related center panels because I thought it would be neat and I think it was the right call.

I’ve been meaning to redraw my Hatchetfield Major Arcana project from 2021 for a while now (which I am only just now realizing I posted exactly four years ago today!), especially now that the black tarot has got me thinking about it again, but the one sticking point I have with it is that I made them way before NPMD and Nightmare Time season 2 came out, so there’s a whole bunch of major characters it doesn’t include because they just didn’t exist or we didn’t know anything about them at the time it was made.

The way I see it I have three options:

Replace some of the less important/fitting major arcana assignments with newer characters.

Redraw the major arcana as is but add some of the newer characters as minor arcana cards.

Just redraw the major arcana as is.

It’s been a while since the days when this was primarily a Hatchetfield blog, so I doubt most of my followers or mutuals will have any opinion on this, but on the off chance someone who does sees this I’m going to make a poll, some outside input would really be appreciated on this (although I cannot assure that the option that wins is the one I will actually do lmao)

Which should I do?

Replace some of the less important/fitting original card assignments.

Redraw as is but include some newer characters as minor arcana

Just redraw it as is

Other (feel free to chime in if you have any specific ideas!)

Some very self-indulgent betta fish mark doodles for mermay ft. imark as one of those sad bettas they stick in those tiny little cups at petsmart.

I actually tried to stick pretty close to how mark's betta fish appear in the show (red veiltail + blue plakat), except I also gave imark big fluffy dumbo ventral fins even though I'm reasonably sure the blue fish in the show doesn't have them just because I felt like drawing big fluffy dumbo ventral fins (plus I feel that the difference in texture adds a nice bit of contrast between the marks here).

Here's another fic cover, this time for @roboticrainboots 's fantastic two shot A Solstice In Central, which is quite possibly the sweetest fma fic I've ever read and I have a lot of feelings about it.

Yet another screenshot redraw! I know I've been doing a ton of these, but 1) they're fun, 2) I learn a lot about the art of fma 2003 when I do them, and 3) I'm in a creative rut right now due to personal reasons and currently my capacity for coming up with original concepts for illustrations is much lower than my capacity for actually executing on those concepts, and screenshot redraws are an excellent way of exercising the latter without having to use much of the former.

I`ll probably eventually do ones for the other two shots of Al waiting while Ed sleeps from Undo because they're probably some of my favorite shots in the entire franchise.

Looks really good. It's actually a shame that they never showed this in the show. Or did I miss this? I have been re-watching the 2003 Version and saw Brotherhood for the first time last month. I can't remeber this at all 😅

Thanks! They showed this in the third op of 03 (which the show uses in episodes 26-41), it’s part of a simultaneously adorable and heart-wrenching little montage of stills of Ed sleeping while Al waits quietly. The second pic is a screenshot from it, and the first one is my redrawing of said screenshot.
