ik a lot of ppl were comparing squid game to the hunger games back when the show first came out bc they're both death games sure whatever butttttt......... squid game hunger games au...... hhhnnnggggg.....
(and like i know that they're all supposed to be teenagers but in this au im making them just their normal ages lmao bc i dont wanna teenageify them lmao) thinking about thanos being from one of the more wealthy careers districts and volunteering for the games bc he wants the fame and glory and because thinks hes tough shit when really he's not, bro does not know how to fight but he still has so much confidence in himself that he genuinely believes he can win. namgyu getting reaped from one of the poorer districts, and when he gets to the capitol for training and stuff he meets thanos and immediately wants to form an alliance with him because he thinks that if he can stick around with a guy like thanos then maybe he can survive at least a little longer than what he would have alone. except when all the tributes are together thanos seems to only want to pay attention to semi, namgyu's district partner, and that pisses namgyu the fuck off because what does thanos see in her? she's not any better than namgyu is...... ALSO thinking about mina being thanos' district partner, both of them being all glitz and glam and thouroughly unprepared for the games they're about to enter. thanos also takes a liking to minsu, which also pisses namgyu off because he keeps trying to tell thanos that they need to make an alliance with powerful people, with the other careers, not these losers who can barely hold a weapon and will probably die on day 1, but thanos doesn't seem to be listening to him. perhaps because thanos believes he doesn't need a powerful team, perhaps because he thinks that he's good enough without the help of anyone else.
(ok this post got too long so im putting the rest under a read more shbfksrhbf this was supposed to just be a team thanos hunger games au but then i started thinking of more and more characters and i just couldn't stopš)
AND thinking about junhee and myunggi also being there as district partners, myunggi not caring about any other person in the games except junhee and willing to do anything to make sure she gets out, even if that means killing every single other tribute in the games himself. thinking about hyunju also being from a career district, and she volunteers for the games because well she's been trained to do so but also, mostly, because she thinks that maybe if she wins then she could have the money and the power of the capitol to be able to finally transition, and if she loses well then at least she won't have to continue living as someone she's not. AND YOUNGMI BEING HYUNJU'S DISTRICT PARTNER AAAHHHH although i cannot see youngmi as a career/having volunteered ..... oh well lets ignore that. BUT HYUNJU RECOGNIZING HOW SCARED YOUNGMI IS AND HELPING HER THROUGH THE TRAINING AND STUFF AND LETTING HER KNOW THAT AS LONG AS THEY STICK TOGETHER THEY'LL BE ALRIGHT....... hyunju don't make promises you can't keep.........
and of course i gotta talk about gihun too i kinda love to imagine that he volunteered for someone. AND LIKE i mentioned at the top of the post that in this au the tributes wouldn't just be teenagers which like yeah i guess takes away the whole point of the hunger games, but let me take some creative liberties okkkkk ANDDDD i know that like men probably wouldnt be able to volunteer for female tributes either but again LET ME HAVE CREATIVE FREEDOM because pleeeeeease imagine gayeong getting reaped and gihun volunteering for her šššš all throughout his life gihun has seen friends, colleagues, acquaintances of his all get reaped for the games and he's never once felt the desire to take their place- even when one of his close friends he'd grown up with got reaped one year, gihun felt sad sure, but most of all he felt relief, relief that it wasn't him getting called up on that stage....... but when he hears his daughter's name getting called, he's volunteering before he can even really process it. AAAAAGGGGHHHHH GIHUNNNNNNNN and like of course in this au sangwoo is gonna be there too. even tho sangwoo and gihun would have to be from different districts i'd love to imagine that they still know each other, idk how they would but like i can still imagine...... imagining that perhaps gihun's district is before sangwoo's for the reaping and so sangwoo is able to see it on the broadcast from his district and while everyone is talking about how brave and selfless that man was for volunteering for his daughter, all sangwoo can think about is how stupid gihun is, because he knows that gihun won't last long in those games (or will he......) but sangwoo can't even think about it for long because then it's time for his own district's reaping and suddenly he's having to face the fact that his name is getting called too. looks like he'd going to be able to see gihun one last time.
AAAAAAAND I GOTTA INCLUDE INHO TOO evil evil man to stir the post i'd love to imagine him sort of in the same role as in canon, like someone from the capitol infiltrating the games, and he has the power and control over the gamemakers to make sure he doesn't get killed by another tribute, not exactly sure what his motivations would be here but like. i need him to be there and i need him to be evil and manipulative to gihun about it. BUTTTT ALSO inho and sangwoo both trying to form an alliance with gihun, and gihun trusting them both, but SANGWOO DOES NOT FUCKING TRUST INHO he just knows that there's something up with inho but he cannot exactly place what, but fucking gihun is too trusting and keeps brushing off his warnings that something is not right with inho, and even tho sangwoo believes that his mistrust of inho is keeping him safe bc he knows to keep a distance/keep an eye on him...... as soon as inho finds out that sangwoo doesn't trust him, it only puts sangwoo in MORE danger because inho can't have someone messing up his plans.
and im also thinking of saebyeok and jiyeong too hhhhhhnnnnnngggg im imagining saebyeok coming into the games and not trusting ANYONE, she turns away any time another tribute tries to start an alliance with her, she doesn't listen when her mentor tells her she needs to be "appealing" so that she can get sponsorships, she just relies on herself. but then....... when the games start, she runs into a girl from one of the other districts, who seems to be the only one in the entire arena who isn't taking the games seriously. she's not trying to kill others, she's not necessarily trying hard not to get killed herself, she's just been camping out in these woods and waiting to see what's gonna happen. honestly, saebyeok stumbling upon her hiding spot is the most exciting thing that's happened to her ever since the games started. and saebyeok said from the beginning that she was not going to be teaming up with or relying on anyone else during these games, but..... when that girl finally gets up from her hiding spot and starts following saebyeok through the arena, saebyeok lets her.

Her eventually getting a care free attitude after living alone for so long, the only form of entertainment she could get was from herself and the shopkeepers who didnāt know she was stealing from them.
She eventually just thinks of everything as a game. She watches the reaping like itās a lottery ticket into what her life could be although she knows very well that she would be one of the first to die
and then itās reaping day.. just another day where she has to pull up in the scraps she never washed just for her name to be picked.
The only form of entertainment, other than stealing from shopkeepers were the games, it basically thought her everything that she knows to a certain point and she couldnāt wait to see how this one would go out.

Saebyeok ultimately not thinking of it too much and heading off to the actual games. Keeping wear of whoās with who and what sheds get from the middle.
She escapes. Her fast hunting skills got her to kill a good few players after getting a knife. After the initial blood bath she walks alone. Realizing how fucked she is if she doesnāt find water soon.
until she sees it. Smoke. Another easy kill, and possible looting. She climbs in the trees to get a good look at who sheās killing before she realizes it was vacant until she hear a voice from under the tree sheās on.
only for it to be the girl who didnāt care looking her dead in the faceā¦.

I like to think that jiyeon would be used as a ā sitting duck ā of sorts for the tributes to kill but then sae byeok kills them from the trees as jiyeon hides ( maybe being so agile and fast from stealing was good lmao )
