Ian didn’t say anything. He just reached in, pulled one out, and held it up against himself. It was exactly the kind of ridiculously soft, lame couple stuff he secretly loved.

Mickey saw the look in his eyes. "Don’t you dare," he warned. "I will sleep outside in the dirt before I put that on my body.”

Ten minutes later, Mandy’s phone buzzed.

It was a mirror selfie from their bathroom. Ian was in his full reindeer onesie, beaming proudly with his arm hooked around Mickey, who was also, very reluctantly, wearing his. Mickey’s expression looked like he was plotting a triple murder.

Underneath, Ian had texted: You have single-handedly ruined his week. I love you so much. Thank you.

made the mistake of watching gallavich videos on tiktok. i still see people acting like ian didn’t love mickey or that he didn’t love him as much as mickey loved him and it just annoys me so much. did they watch the show with their eyes closed?!

ian fell in love with mickey so incredibly hard so young and quickly that so many of his choices in the show and triggers for his BP are centered around his feelings for mickey or trying to live/cope without mickey. (i know there are other things at play too, like you said the substance use in s4, but it’s still a big percentage) i could go through the examples but this would be a thesis and i won’t do that to you.

they judge ian’s love on how he was during the worse time of his life (season 6) and forget all the other seasons and times ian was clearly obsessed and madly in love with mickey because of what he says when he is depressed, mentally ill and a broken human being. i love ian so much so this isn’t a criticism just an observation: in s6-8 he isnt the best towards other people and he’s pretty self centred during s6 + 7 and then manic in s8, so it’s not unique how he’s treating mickey. but fans have a very narrow minded view on it all. he’s barely there for lip or carl or debbie, fighting with fiona etc. and i’m not saying he has to be, as i think ian needed those years of being selfish to know who he was and what he needed in life. and eventually that’s his tomato plants, in the west side with his mickey :)

like sandy tells debbie - she was 15 when she married royal and went through shit, so she needed to leave to find who she was. and i agree with that sentiment

aside from everything you said, the irony of ppl harping on ian is that mickey became such an openly loving person because of ian’s love. ian loved mickey through mickey’s worst — when he was closested, lashing out, refusing to kiss ian, refusing to admit any feelings, breaking ian’s heart over and over again. ian loved mickey when he was mean, when he was rough, when he was dirty, when he was fucked for life, and this love and affection and belief transformed mickey, giving him the courage to stand up against his father and live authentically.

it’s like... ian is so loved and cared for by mickey because he looked at the worst versions of mickey and thought he was wonderful. even in the future, ian adores traits of mickey’s that other people would run from, and that’s why he’s the one who has mickey’s heart and not someone else. and when ian fucks up his proposal, mickey says yes again because he looks at that pathetic puppy of a man beating a bunch of people in his name and feels appreciated.

I love the deleted Gallavich scenes from season 10 but I can actually live without them not being in the actual episodes. But do you know which deleted scene I’ll be forever upset they took out though? The Lip and Ian scene from 7x12. Not only is an excellent brotherly exchange (which is one of my favourite things ever), but it also really adds depth and nuance to Ian’s feelings about leaving Mickey at the border.

Bascially: he’s really not sure that he did the right thing. (And I, for the record, absolutely think he did the right thing, but I’m still very, very, very happy to see him feeling hesitant about it, torn over it.) He repeatedly seeks Lip’s reassurance that he did – or did not – make the right call: “Stupid, right?” he asks, and “You think I should have?”

(Sidenote: the line about the sex being fucking fantastic is fucking fantastic. HELL YEAH IT WAS! I also love that Lip asks about it so casually: he knows they had sex, he is zero percent concerned about Ian cheating on Trevor, he just wants to know if his brother got properly laid.)

But the most important bit, the best bit, is when they start talking about Lip abstaining from alcohol and Ian goes: “Is that a thing again?” and Lips nods yeah, he’s trying.

“How many days?” Ian asks.

“At this point I’m just counting hours,” Lip says and this is the point, I think, where Ian realizes that oh, that’s what he’s been doing, too. Counting the hours until the ache passes; until the longing fades; until he once more can pretend not to remember what it feels like to have Mickey’s arms around him.

And so, when Lip says that he’s glad that Ian came back… Ian doesn’t answer. Because maybe it was the right call, but he’s not sure that it was, and he sure as hell isn’t glad.

I mean, he tries and he tries and he tries, for the next few hours and days and weeks, but this time he can’t do it. Looking back at the past year he can’t unsee the lies he’s told himself and others, and yes, there’s been good things too, worthwhile and real things and maybe he wouldn’t undo any of them, but having seen Mickey again, having had the ruse exposed, he can’t go back to fooling himself that Mickey doesn’t thrill and fulfill him in a way no one else can.

And this, I think, adds a lot of context both to his feelings regarding letting Mickey go and his downward spiral in season 8. It is an excellent and important scene and it is the one scene that should not have been cut.
