@efukt
I’ve been seeing posts like these on Instagram for other misunderstood mental illnesses, so I thought I’d have a go at making one myself.
I think that one of the most frustrating misconceptions about DID is that it is just about having alters or “multiple personalities” as some laypeople see it.
Alters are just one part of Dissociative Identity Disorder.
The information above is paraphrased and simplified from the book Coping with Trauma-Related Dissociation by by Kathy Steele, Onno van der Hart, and Suzette Boon.
The majority of the information above also applies to people with OSDD, since they have many of the same symptoms and experiences as people with DID.
[ Note: I’m not a mental health professional or educator. I’m just a person living with DID. This post is not intended to diagnose anyone. Please speak to a mental health professional if you need help. ]

trans ppl own the word queer
we use it to stay safe so we don't have to constantly announce that we are trans in potentially unsafe company
it originated in the gay community and has always seen common (if regional) use in actual lgbt communes and real-world activism
terfs want to retire the word queer so trans women have to taxonomize themselves to self-identify
there is no other word that serves its purpose
there is nothing distinct about its use as a slur from the word "gay"
i just saw someone get called a "demon" for self-identifying as queer by someone with f*g in their url
im actually over caring how harsh it sounds on yalls ears
blacklist it if it triggers your ptsd that bad
you're not allowed to compromise trans women's safety and demonize our elders because you're sheltered enough to think nono words are the biggest threat to our way of life & you're too ignorant to know your history
i dont care what galaxy brain discourse you saw. i, and every trans woman i know, am telling you that stigmatizing the word queer is choosing terfs over us
cis ppl should reblog this but dont say anything
because tumblr brain makes you think removing words from your vocabulary is the absolute height of activism, regardless of who is telling you to do it or why
the person im vagueing thinks ace people are "the ones pushing the q slur" & can't figure out why terfs love their posts where they call trans women "demons" for self-IDing as queer in public
"queer can't be used as a self-identifier or a collective term for lgbt people" and "trans women MUST self identify" are the exact same stance
