So, I actually want to drop a post with some brief info on the concept of this Sonic Merlina AU and then never come back to it /hj
So, obviously, Sonic was originally the court wizard, just like Merlina in Black Knight. I think Merlin is Uncle Chuck.
Sonic isn't really a regular Mobian, but more like the Mobian version of an elf? His body is connected to magic, his ears are a bit longer than regular Mobians (I think he's taller too..).
To cast spells, Sonic practically never wears gloves or shoes. He literally walks around barefoot in Mobian culture because of this, and it was a bit... awkward for Lancelot.
Honestly, their initial relationship with Lance was awfully awkward-cute, and they're both love-struck idiots.
However, Lance is focused on his knightly duties and obligations. Sonic, though... is slowly developing a plan to overthrow Arthur, created by Uncle Chuck. At the same time, he's more open about his feelings and loves to flirt with Lance.
In the end, Sonic suggests that Lancelot run away with him. He calls Arthur a tyrant and an impostor, claiming that Lance could become a hero and help overthrow him.
Lancelot replies that the King's orders are not to be questioned, and tells Sonic to come to his senses. This basically references that line he said to Percival at the beginning of Black Knight.
As a result, Sonic runs away, just like Merlin did in the game. They both feel betrayed:
Sonic believes Lance traded whatever fucking romantic-platonic thing they had for loyalty to a fake tyrant.
Lancelot is convinced that Sonic betrayed the kingdom and him personally by going against the King's will.
Lance blames it all on the wind mage's recklessness. Free spirit and all that. He tries to convince himself that Sonic had him under a spell the whole time, making him fall for the blue hedgehog. Something like a plan to use the knight. But this is obviously not true – the knight's just making excuses for his feelings that won't go away after Sonic's "betrayal".
Sonic needs to find a way to get Excalibur and destroy Arthur. He turns to the Blacksmith.
Sonic hoped the sword expert could help him figure out how to draw Excalibur without magical blessings. Luckily for him, the knight destined to do it turned out to be the Blacksmith. So now the local Tails has to learn to be a knight, lol.
BTW, Lancelot really doesn't like that Sonic is messing around with a kid. Sonic doesn't let Tails fight Lancelot himself, so their final battle is postponed until the end of Tails' journey. During this time, Sonic and Lance are CONSTANTLY fighting.
They're both weirdly trying to win each other over to their side, and honestly, especially Lance. He desperately wants Sonic to come back and for things to be like before again.
So I'm not sure about the ending where Merlin suddenly turns out to be the villain...
If I add this plot twist, I'll probably have Tails kill Sonic. They likely won't get a happy ending either way :/.
