look im in my 30s. i've been involved in numerous fandoms of all kinds (sports, video games, books, tv shows, comic books, anime, etc) since the 2000s and all i can say is that there has never really been a concept of "fandom etiquette". horrible fans have always existed and those extreme fans have always been capable of being unhinged assholes to their fellow fans and to the creators of that media/the actors/etc. the only thing that has changed that has made it feel like there's a lack of fandom etiquette is social media because we're in a clout-chasing/attention economy which has simply amplified the worst behaviors of fandoms that have always existed.

the "fandom etiquette" that i think people like to yap about is just basic human decency and people being courteous and respectful to one another. so yeah if we really want to make fandoms a healthy and safe space for everyone, maybe stop looking at it from an exclusively fandom lens and start seeing it as an intra-personal thing. stop asking yourselves questions like "would a true fan do this?" and instead start asking, "would a decent human being do this?"

p.s. however, if there is a piece of "fandom etiquette" that i wish people respected more these days is spoilers because why tf am i constantly seeing spoilers every where all the goddamn time?

ok explaining the piece here bc there's like four things going on. so they're pointing at each other's backs, because roy burning riza's back and also riza being the one to shoot roy should she falter. backs (and fronts) bare to each other bc of their absolute blanket trust of the other, but military slacks still on bc their relationship cannot get farther than what it is. to bring in the prompt, both a crossbow bolt and a bolt of lightning, originating from the opposite of who you'd expect, bc their direct responsibility in creating the other (riza showing roy the secret of flame alchemy, roy inspiring riza to follow her to the military). <- although, it is not exactly what their ability is, just very close to it, hence the origin from the opposite person (but im sure riza could rock on a crossbow). and i uh. think that's it
