My MC, Yuuma, and Grim as mermaids for this year's MerMay 2026 🧜♀️🫧(this my second one. I did a chibi one last year which you can find here in my account.)
Neighborhood watch🐈🐾😅
Unto part 4 of the TWST family series and it's the Kingscholars 🦁👑! This family came out in ways I genuinely did not see coming design wis😅. Everyone say hello to Salama and Taraji Kingscholar!
They are the TWST versions of Ahadi and Uru, Mufasa and Scar's parents (this was easy in comparison to the Howl family 😅). Now to meet the former king and queen of the savanna:
Salama Kingscholar (TWST version of Ahadi):
Name meaning: swahili for "safe", or "peace"
Physical features 🎨:
For the hairstyles, I did both Salama and wife around the same time to compare them. Originally, he was going to get wavy hair like Falena but as I did his design, I was curious on how it would look if we made it similar to Scar's mane. Especially because Ahadi was described resembling Scar in some canon stories in the franchise. And it actually worked out (he wound up looking like an older version Leona by accident 😅 this is second time this happened with first being the Vipers). He got a few white streaks due to working to hard. Poor guy 😅.
Outfit 🎨:
Outfit wise, I decided not to make a big deal in trying to add the African cultural details like I did with Falena. Salama is a mix of Zulu and Masasi Mara culture. Also, his and Taraji's colors got swapped. He was going to get green and Taraji purple but after drawing him, I felt the green would work better on her so we swapped colors. It actually worked out very nicely 👌
Personality: Salama is wise, dutiful and hardworking. While he did well as a king, he struggled in being a father, especially after Leona was born. He had a difficult time balancing his kingly duties with his familial ones. While now bedridden, he is determine to remain involved in familial matters before his time comes.
Backstory: During his reign, Salama was beloved and respected by his people, especially after he started projects in advancements in technology to help his homeland. He wasn't one that enjoyed being challenged until he met the fiesty Taraji during an encounter at a waterhole. Despite the rocky encounter, he was enamored by her boldness and eventually married her and their sons Falena and Leona. However, when Salama's health began to waned, he feared what little time he had and started prioritizing on preparing Falena for the throne, causing strain between him and Leona. These days, it's rare to see Salama with his current sickly state.
Taraji Kingscholar:
Name meaning: swhaili for "hope" or "faith"
Physical features🎨:
Taraji has the same fiery hair as her eldest son, Falena but green eyes and sharper features like her youngest, Leona. As for hair, I played around and she was suppose to resemble Leona in the hairstyle (which wound up being swapped😅) and she got hairstyle number 4 down below. (Fun fact: hairstyle 3 is going to Neliah which I will explain in a bit).
The nice thing about her braid is I remember seeing pictures of algerian women with a type of braiding with these hair ties or beads so I used that in her look.
Aside the hair, I gave her vitiligo and made look like diamonds to fit her TWST version, Uru, who's name means "diamonds" plus the fanart of Uru with a diamond marking on her forehead.
Outfit 🎨: she was more easier than her husband because Taraji's outfit is based on one African culture which is Amizagh or north african. Same thing with the vitiligo, the Amaizagh fashion had diamond patterns which again is a nod for Uru’s name.
Personality: Taraji is wise and compassionate. Like her husband, she is dutiful, both to her kingdom and family. She is calm and maternal, being motherly to Cheka if his parents are busy. However, she is also a skilled in hunting and tracking, and like her younger son Leona, is a rebel even in her old age.
Backstory: Taraji was from a tribe and first met Salama when she drank from a waterhole reserved only for the royal family. She stood her ground firmly and even roared so powerfully thay it knocked the king down...literally 😅. They crossed paths again during Tamashina-mina where Taraji competed and it got Salama's curiousty of her. As they knew eachother better they eventually wed and Taraji became queen for some time. While there have been ups and downs in her family, she remains hopeful that they will find their place again in the Circle of Life.
Other fun facts:
- Taraji has direct ties to diamond mines in the savanna which she controls in both trading and crafting as well as ensuring there is appropriate management of the resources
- When Leona's home, he doesn't hide from his mother because of how skilled of a tracker she is (he's tried, trust me.)
- Taraji spends her time watching over the children of the staff and royal guard when they are busy, including her grandson, Cheka, if his parents are busy
- Salama use to call Leona his "little scholar" and his wife Taraji "my blazing flame" hence her firey hair color
- things between Leona and Salama aren't the best due to past events and Leona feeling his father played favorites. Even so, Leona still holds a level of respect for his father, visiting his when he's home.
For Falena and Neliah, I'm planning to update their looks at some point in the future. As for the next fanily, the it might be the Shrouds 🔥💙 but at the moment I will put a pause on the series to give time on brainstorming the other families coming up and getting to know the families we did already.
For the other families I did, the Vipers, Leechs and Howls, you can find them here in previous posts.

Next redesign is Faruzan 💠! This one was tricky for a lot of reasons but it came out so beautiful 😍.
Redesign notes 🎨:
Faruzan had one of the better sumeru designs in areas like the sleeves, and diamond pattern skirt but her design needed a pop of color and I wanted to especially put more focus on the skirt with how pretty the diamond patterns were.
The concept art was focused on playing around with the skirt while also making it work woth the torso area. I took inspiration from the firelit outfits in TWST plus @irimuhuda's designs from her ocs(note: the oc designs of the firelit outfits rightfully belongs to @irimuhuda )
Outfit 1 was the winner minus the leggings. A bonus was the flowy sleeves which helped add a pop of color to the upper part of the outfit.
The torso area was gonna stay the same originally but I couldn't figure out how to connect it to the sleeves. Then I remembered the concept art for Michal from the David movie and used one of the dresses to help me.
The skirt was going to have the same diamond pattern but as I drew it, there was another problem. The diamond print became difficult to put on the entire skirt. Hearing how she may be inspired by persian stained glass, I looked at pictures of Iranian stained glass and to me some look like they had floral patterns so I went for a floral detail which came out beautifully✨️.
One of my concerns was the design would potentially loose the persian inspirations behind it. But I got ideas from traditional persian paintings. An interesting detail I noticed was there were pearls in the jewelry for most paintings so I add some to her belt and we surprisingly kept the little flowers on her outfit which were placed on the belt with the vision (I nervous about that one because it reminded me of Kokomi and the bows😅)
We also changed some of the jewelry but most of it stayed the same. The flower on her necklace is actually the same flower on the back of the dress. Her hair is the same just minus the two locks (I honestly thought those were pigtails 😅). I tried to draw those X accessories but it didn't work out so I went for a simple diamond hairclip and a hoop bracelet in her left hand.
As for the cape, I removed it but kept the gems and put them on the skirt because there was a lot going on and it would've been difficult to make it stand out.
This redesign had a lot going on but as always the end result was beautiful 😍 ♥️
FUNAH!?!
I do drawings for my mom's office on her spare white board, please enjoy her Summer design!
For my fourth Liyue redesign, it is our secretive hydro girl, Yelan 🎲💧! Out of all the genshin redesigns I did... this one was the hardest 😅. I think even harder than Dehya and Kokomi.
Redesign notes 🎨:
Yelan's design to me was kind of plain and I noticed something that made her design differ from other Liyue characters. All her components were one piece with exception being the gloves, coat and jewelry. She also didn't had much chinese details.
At first, I did her concept art in digital art and reused my twst oc Davina’s model. But it didn't work out and I tried to do too much and wasn't overall happy 😥so I deleted it and started from scratch on paper. I took time to reflect my game plan and realized I was trying too hard to use the orignal elements when there really wasn't much I liked from the design. So I decided to focus on bringing out more chinese details in the outfit.
Outfit number 4 in the second concept art won. At first, I was going to leave the coat the way it was but after having her wear it, it made a difference in the outfit and I decided to change the way she wore it rather than having it as cape. Also how does she even fight in that without dropping it 🤔?
I gave her a blue qipao dress and more her vision to her necklace🎲📿. I gave her some tights and separated the boots from the outfit. Also, I noticed how the word orchid was used a lot in her constellation and outfit description so I used an orchid design the same one as her constellation and gave her some lotus earrings 🪷I saw on pinterest.
This redesign honestly drained me. I actually lost my energy during the concept art and took a one day break from the drawing. But it was worth it 👌 and she came out beautifully ☺️
Note: read from top to bottom and left to right
A fun fact in their first year together, Mara took pleasure in waking up Leona in her own "special" way. Let's just say Leona didn't like it 😅🤣. When Ruggie came along and was more tolerable, Leona thought he would no longer be startled awake....but Mara always finds an opportunity 😉 😅
a fun little doodle i did at my sister's request, featuring the gang from our what the hair canon divergence au! some unhinged conversation over supper one night resulted in us entirely rewriting the whole show based off of one question: what if the spectrometric press from the first episode hadn't been crushed when varian's boilers exploded, and rapunzel got to see the results of the tests?
well, what happened (we decided that the tests would tell her the truth about her hair and the black rocks like she'd wanted it to) is that it triggered a chain of events that sent the main cast searching for the moonstone WAY before the canon timeline. varian's villain arc was entirely skipped and they brought him along for the ride. we left hook foot and shorty out because we hate both of them and there's no reason for them to have come in the first place loL. the journey to the dark kingdom also became a desperate race, because king frederic was Not ready to be exposed yet, and all the parents ended up chasing after the main cast. and then the brotherhood got involved and omg. it's such a fun au and i will happily explain it all if anyone asks :3
and at last i see the light <3
i had this super cool idea for valentines day a couple years ago, but was burned out at the time, so i only managed the sketch. a few months later i picked it back up and decided to just color the sketch and call it good cause i really wanted to see it finished :) very proud of how this one came out even though it's technically rough!
and i couldnt decide if i liked their show palettes or their movie palettes better, so movie palette version under the cut :D
