Workin' on cosplays for Dragon Con!
Missed the costume contest while setting up our department’s display, but at least my makeup looks rad.
Hey! So I just saw your Rule Breaker dagger. Can you tell me what materials you made it out of?
The blade is worbla over craft foam. The handle is aluminum foil that was balled up into the rough shape of the handle and then covered in a piece of worbla so it’d stick to the blade. And then all the detailing was done with Apoxie Sculpt with gold wire for the rings.
I went into a little more detail here: http://eikijicosplay.tumblr.com/post/117515996647/hello-ill-be-cosplaying-caster-from-fate-sn
And just relinking the progress pics for easy reference of those materials in use: http://eikijicosplay.tumblr.com/post/98449705502/and-done-managed-to-complete-rule-breaker-inI unfortunately didn’t take pictures of the painting process since I was in a hurry to complete it.
Finally done! The final version of Loki’s full length Chitauri Spear. Measures in at 6′4 tall and 4.25 lbs!
What would you recomend for the barrel/ end piece of ahabs crosshairs?
The one I made was just a hollow cardboard diamond glued on the end of a wooden dowel which was embedded in the body of the gun. Which you can kind of make out here:
To make the diamond, I folded and glued the cardboard like I was making a papercraft d8. Kinda like so:
hello! I'll be cosplaying caster from fate s/n this year and I was wondering if I could ask some questions about your process with rulebreaker? I love how you did the hilt. Is it all worbla and then covered with sculpting play? Also, how did you do the multicolored finish on the blade? It looks great!
Thanks!!!
The hilt is a bunch of balled up aluminum foil with a layer of Worbla to hold it together (that way I’m not wasting all my Worbla and it would still adhere well with the blade). I used Apoxie Sculpt, which is a 2-part epoxy sculpting clay, on top to build it up and add the detailing.
The most difficult part actually was adding the rings because I had to hold it still until the clay hardened.
For the blade, I used interference paint in a bunch different colors. Interference paint is basically kind of whitish-clear on its own, but shines a color in the light or over a dark surface.
I essentially just kept finger painting little different colored spots all over until enough of the paint built up to hide the black base coat underneath. It looks even better in person than I could capture in photos since the color changes depending on the light hitting it through all the layers of paint.

Prince beat me to first place, but she deserved it.
Happy Halloween!

So my friends and I had a massive Fate yukata group at Anime Weekend Atlanta! Originally we were aiming for a group of the FREEing yukata figures, but then the group grew into this awesomeness.
More photos over on Flickr!
This photoshoot was so much funnnnn!
And done! Managed to complete Rule Breaker in three afternoons, start to finish, in time for the con!
What do you mean three days before the con isn't an appropriate time to start on a new prop you weren't planning on making?
Dragon con daily cosplay selfies!
And Caster's wig is done!
Her fucking stupid ponytail I love it. Kristy is a wizard.
Styled Joy's wig tonight. Chloe from Noir. It's so fluffy!
Some of the metal bits for Caster. All 100% craft foam. Have I mentioned how much I enjoy weathering metallic props?
