The Medium-Priced Dystopia of the Romanian Suburb
Planned suburban areas are a quite new feature of the Romanian urban sprawl, having been introduced in the last 10-15 years, after a new generation of nouveaux riche have graduated from the typical accommodation of the country’s postbelic architecture, the uniform plattenbau. A mixture of the common American suburb and the exclusive gated communities, these areas capture the worst of both worlds, lacking the safe luxury of the former and the ample real estate space of the latter. Built by corporations of dubious backgrounds, the quality of the homes is often mediocre, while the profit-maximizing tendencies of the developer result in a hybrid monstrosity of garden houses and prefab apartment buildings.
Their inhabitants are mostly up-and-coming business owners, not quite riche enough to buy into the properties of the truly affluent parts of the city. Due to the complete lack of social infrastructure these zones are desolate, dormitory suburbs with the declared purpose to reflect their owners financial status.

Hommage a Philip K. Dick. In fact my whole body of work is a hommage to him. I tried to avoid the common pitfalls and clichees used when picturing this character. Still needs a lot of work though, i need to find the right balance of the metal plates on the back.
DINNYESZEZON // MELON SEASON

I've started working on this picture in 2006, then I've completely lost interest, considering it only a study in creating absolute visual chaos while still maintaining some order and structure, to make it look less repellent. The one above is the abandoned version; below the new one with some extra layers added, some removed, and with a new general color tone to hold the whole picture together. There's a ton of little details hidden in it, a large amount of them from my other pictures, I think I’ve fitted little pieces from 10 of my other pics into this one. I don’t expect anybody to notice them in this fast-moving image consuming medium that is tumblr :D Further there is a fractal-like quality to it, the spaceman gets smaller and smaller, collapsing into himself.
No need to say the picture is far from ready, see you in another 10 years.

This is just the profile portrait of a glass-dome headed punk. What's the opposite of prosopagnosia? You know, the mental disorder of face perception where the ability to recognize faces is impaired?
I'm clearly suffering from the opposite, I just see faces everywhere.
Anyway, back in the day when I made this pic, I was clearly listening to too much industrial metal. I think I found this lyric inspirational:
And hell was so cold All the vases are so broken And the roses tear our hands all open Mother Marry miscarry But we pray just like insects And the world is so ugly now
Drops of Madness { masquerada} . { 2006 / original: 1441 x 1908 }
A quote from a famous movie is hidden somewhere in this picture. I like puzzles and riddles a lot, I hide little details in my pics all the time.
The person who finds it wins the full-res version.
SMART BRICKS
"As Gordon Moore's Law ramps up even further, machine smarts begin to permeate everything physical. The science fiction writer Vernor Vinge talks about *smart bricks*. These are chips so cheap that every single brick in a wall has a chip, and they all communicate with one another and they all gauge the strain of the structure in real time."
Excerpt from Bruce Sterling's 1994 speech "The Virtual City".
