Blog III: Slowly But Surely

Hey, guys! EJ again. 

I promised that I’d have more of an update on Project Z this week because last week hadn’t been as productive as I wanted it to be. This is not much of an update, but I do have something to share: I’ve started brainstorming for Project Z. Project Z is officially in its baby stages. 

I know that this is just the beginning, but I’m already seeing the potential that this story has. I think, though, that my biggest challenge with something like Project Z is the... magnitude, I guess is the best word for it, of it all. Like, for this project, I’ll be creating my own worlds along with my characters. I haven’t had to do that with my other projects before. Yes, I have the source material to supplement my writing style with, but I still want to make Project Z my own. It’s going to be hard getting over that kind of intimidation and just let go.  

Just like last week, I’m sorry that there isn’t much to this post, but I hope to have more next time. I also have one more thing I’d like to share before I go; I made a moodboard for Project Z.

Blog II: A Love Letter to Inspiration

Hi, guys! EJ again.

Last week, I told you guys that I’d been having trouble deciding which of my ideas I’m going to use for this project, and I had it narrowed down to three. Well, I now have narrowed it down to two: Project Z and High Above the Castle Walls. What I’ve decided to do is have Project Z be my focus for the semester and have High Above the Castle Walls as a backup plan if Project Z doesn’t pan out the way I’m hoping it will.

The reason I chose Project Z is because of how important the story is to me. (High Above the Castle Walls is important to me, too, but for a completely different reason.) The inspiration for Project Z is a series that has always and will always be one that I carry close to my chest. The funny thing is, rewatching a series like that one as an adult really changed the way I viewed the series as a whole. It’s stayed with me all these years, and I want this story to embody everything that the inspiration did. I want this story to be… almost like a love letter to the original series. I know that Project Z is still in its baby stages, but I have faith in its potential.

That’s all I can think of for this week. I admittedly haven’t been very productive, at least in the writing aspect. I promise I’ll have more to say next week.

Blog I: The Era of Getting Things Done

Hi, guys! EJ here.

I started this blog as part of my post-grad creative nonfiction course. The fun thing about this is that I get to choose what my blog’s focus will be. So, I’m going to document my progress as I outline (and possibly draft) my first novel. Whichever idea that turns out to be.

To be honest with you guys, this experience is… new for me. Not the Tumblr part; I’ve been on Tumblr for upwards of a decade. What’s new for me is posting things about original stories. Documenting my progress like this consistently makes it real for me. Like, “Oh, God. Am I really about to do this?” This will be a good thing, though, because it’ll give me the push I need to finally commit to this project.

I have three ideas that I’ve narrowed down for my first novel. I’m just… This is the part that has me stuck. I don’t know which one to sit down with and dedicate time to. The tentative titles for my top three ideas are Project W, High Above the Castle Walls, and Project Z. Project W is a Bridgerton-esque love story between the Prince Regent and an advisor’s daughter. High Above the Castle Walls is a mystery surrounding five teenagers and a string of disappearances that span over decades. Project Z is Romeo-and-Juliet-esque love story between a Queen whose nation is at war and one of her knights.

Tell me which one you guys would rather read.
