What I’m Reading This Week
I know i don’t post here enough but I thought I might start doing this on Thursdays. Sometimes I’m too tired or migrainey to leave a comment on the fic i’m reading, so here’s my attempt to promote my favorite fics this week!
my crown on the head of a creature by Mx_Carter
Summary: The faery that calls itself Hannibal Lecter happens across a homeless Will Graham on a cold evening and offers him a bed for the night. Things…escalate.
Oh my gods friends this story! Will is a homeless man, and Hannibal terrifies him for good reason, but he goes anyway, because he doesn’t want to make Hannibal angry, and because a warm bed and a meal might keep him from dying. There is so much tension in this story my fingers ache from clutching my tablet.
The Fire of Ill Friends by JoanieLSpeak
Summary: After his evisceration, Will returns to work and suddenly finds himself emotionally and spiritually invested in yet another FBI case. There is something drawing him to this one-eyed perpetrator now in police custody. He feels a connection that harkens back to another relationship he had months before.
When he’s suddenly plagued by strange visions and the demons of his past, he begins to realize that returning to his old life after his brutal attack is no longer a viable option.
Ngl I read this 14 chapter story in one go last night. One Eye is a nameless, homeless man that does a lot of damage attempting to evade capture. He’s incarcerated in the same prison that held Will, and refuses to communicate, except that he seems to acknowledge Will. As Will is able to form a meager connection with him, he starts having terrifying visions of things that happened to someone else. Or did they? @joanielspeak does an incredible job as the reader tries to guess what is real and what is hallucination, and no one is reliable.
The Evening of The Wedding by TigerPrawn
Summary: Sometimes time and space rips apart to give two people to each other when they need it the most.
Y’all, this is the Jacob Pederson/Buddy Wittenborn story that we’ve needed. Happiness comes to both of them for the first time in their lives, and it’s sweetly heartbreaking to watch them both befuddled by these strange feelings of contentment and love.
Ethics & Aesthetics by fragile-teacup (Mrs_Gene_Hunt)
Summary: England, 1811. Social status is everything, and the obsession of every parent is to see their children married well. For twenty-year-old Omega Will Graham, life in a small Hertfordshire market town with his father, adopted mother and four half-sisters is tranquil, if a little dull. Until, that is, a party of strangers arrive in the neighbourhood and send every mother within five miles into a frenzy of anticipation. For not only are the newcomers Alpha aristocracy, but one among them - Mr Hannibal Lecter - is the owner of the largest estate in Derbyshire… and single. A pity, then, that Will and Hannibal’s first meeting is less than auspicious. But sometimes, fate and circumstance have a way of conspiring to bring together even the most stubborn of individuals…
If you aren’t reading this wonderful Pride and Prejudice AU, why not? @fragile-teacup is SO GOOD AT THIS i’m left yelling at the end of every update.
Wonderstruck by VictoriaSkyeMarsters
Summary: Following Ellis Ashmead-Bartlett’s return from Gallipoli, he’s stricken with nightmares. It’s not until he meets a rather surly Russian composer that he’s able to find any peace. Meanwhile, Ellis’ face becomes the only thing Igor Stravinsky can think about, his sole source of inspiration. What will happen when their mutual passions reach their tipping point?
I’ve read this story many times, and it’s always good. Intense, full of music and meaningful stares, unexpected gentleness, and a deep aching sadness for what PTSD can do to a man. But there’s this music that is like the inside of his head, and the man who wrote it. This fic singlehandedly made me a Stravinsky fan.
Slip the Veil by ThisBeautifulDrowning
Summary: He misses me, Will thought. He wanted what could have been, so much. He was lonely, looking for someone to finally see him for who he is. To accept him as he is. He thought he’d found that someone in me.
One of the great post-Mizumono fics of the fandom. I don’t even want to say anything about it, except that no one believes that Will really loves Hannibal, and it’s going to be their worst mistake.
I’m working on Quantum Fiction, a StrangeBookclub story that had me delving into quantum research about how two connected particles can communicate with each other through time and space, and even travel to each other, if given proper circumstance. Look for chapter three this weekend!
