2016 NEW YEAR BOOK GIVEAWAY, 1/1-1/8
Every single year, I write resolutions for the new year, and even though research states that for many, they donât work, I canât help it. Iâm an eternal optimist. I love first chapters, seedlings, the early morning light, the smell of new babies â any chance to start over, to begin anew.
In the first chapter of HOW TO BE BRAVE, Georgia is intent on starting over, finding a new way to live with courage and optimism, despite her grief. Late last year, we filmed this interactive trailer, which shows how Georgia faces each moment as a new opportunity, a choice. When Neha Dutta, the director, pitched the idea to film it similar to a choose-your-own-adventure story, I was thrilled. I like to think of my book as less of a âhow toâ (as much as I love the title) and more of an invitation to reflect on what it means to live each moment with meaning and intention. Â
I believe that each moment of our lives is an opportunity for a new beginning. Sometimes if my daughter and I are having a rough day â you know the kind â everyoneâs cranky, the milk is spoiled, weâre out of coffee, sheâs stubbed her toe, the cat just coughed up a hairball the size of a bowling ball - Iâll say that itâs time for a do-over. A do-over is where we both go back to bed, pretend to be asleep, and then she calls out to me, just like she does every morning, and we pretend to start our day over, anew, with a whole new attitude. Usually, this does the trick. We smile and hug and we try it again.
It is with this spirit that Iâve decided to host a New Year giveaway of HOW TO BE BRAVE from January 1-8, 2016.Â
Recently, Iâve had many people tell me that they somehow missed seeing the trailer we filmed, so Iâd like to give it a do-over. I also had a wonderful debut year, full of new friends, exciting travel, and endless surprises. Iâd like to start 2016 from a place of gratitude, with some small offering to the world. A giveaway seems like a nice way to do that - and itâll be my first book giveaway, so thatâs exciting, too! Each day Iâll post a new image from the trailer, along with a quotation from the book, and a link to the trailer itself.Â
I also hope the quotations themselves will spread love and encouragement for those who are committing to new resolutions for 2016. I donât care what the research says. I believe any moment that invites hope and promise is a moment worth celebrating.
Iâll post an image with details each morning, starting next week. Simply RT/share the image (including the one above!) on the social media of your choice (tagging me) for a chance to win.
(January 1-8, 2016, five books total, U.S. only.)
Hereâs to new years and new days and new moments!Â
And to hope and peace and optimism for a better world!Â
