「E-Echo thinks he’s too young to be seeing this stuff...」

All is fine until Green grows UNEASY at a golden pair of eyes piercing his soul. Echo, honey, it’s rude to s t a r e. He feels the need to point it out - maybe the other simply doesn’t realize what he’s doing.
“Uh… y’alright, bud? You’re… starin’ at me funny.”
「Hm…」 Echo doesn’t seem to realise just how intensely he’s staring at the other, nor does he seem to understand the concept of personal space as he leans upwards on the points of his toes to get a better look at his face, which doesn’t do all that good considering how short he is. 「Echo is sure that he’s seen you somewhere before, but he can’t at all remember where and it’s really really really bugging him.」
Professor Sycamore:
“Ahh… so you’re like a criminal of sorts? But it doesn’t seem like you’ve done anything wrong, lad.. I.. I don’t think you’ve done anything wrong, anyway.” So for Echo to stay lost, he feels that it keeps him from being found. Understandable, but doesn’t he get lonely or anything? “If people are trying to find you – how come they’re not here getting you right now? I’ve never heard of a wanted criminal in Kalos.. so your story and you.. must be new here.”
「Echo wouldn’t really call himself a criminal, but if you wanna get technical, yeah!! That’s 100% correct!! You're also correct about him doing nothing wrong, buuuuuut it's not as if people actually believe him.」 Really, the only thing he had actually done that was illegal was take the Chikorita, and even that was a complete accident. 「Hm... Echo guesses you might have a point... He hasn’t been here all that long...」
Kris:
“’Created’?” Kris parroted again, tone bordering on the incredulous. “Kid, someone’s gotta explain ta you ‘bout ‘da boids and ‘da beedril. But ‘dat someone ain’t me.”
“And ‘dey do too talk like ‘dis!” …perhaps not with an accent nearly as strong, but it’s not like she got her dialect out of a cereal box.
Upon his request for an introduction, she jerked her thumb to gesture at herself, as if channeling her general aggravation into that one motion. She cast him a proud grin and announced, “Y’can call me Kris Clarity, Johto’s Pride and Joy, Capturer Extraordinaire!!” And yes, the full title was absolutely necessary.
「Echo is aware of the process of how most people are made, thank you very much. Why do people keep telling him that he needs to learn what he already knows...??」 He still didn’t understand why they called it the birds and the whatever, though.
「And Echo means that they don’t all talk with such a strong accent!!」 Sure, they had a bit of a weird dialect, but it wasn’t as odd sounding as this girl’s accent!!
「Kris Clarity, Johto’s Pride and Joy, Capturer Extraordinaire...?? 」 What a mouthful!! Did she practice saying it or something?? 「Echo is Echo, nice to meet you, Kris. 」
Alright-y!! Someone on Skype asked about this, so I thought it was best to explain right out what Echo’s deal was with being a copy. Echo is indeed a separate person from the male protagonist of HG/SS, and is aware that he exists. He only knows him as the ‘The Generic Boy From New Bark Town’ and hasn’t met him face to face. I guess ‘AU!HG/SS Protagonist’ is a bit misleading, but I didn’t mean for it to be. Super sorry if this has confused anyone!!
「Echo wonders if he can find someone to turn him in so he can break out again and share the reward money... He’s a genius!!」
???:
Well that was a roller coaster of a thing that he said: first calling her a liar, second implying she spoke incorrectly, third calling her cute. Each thing sparked a radically different reaction, and as such, they all came out in a sort of jumbled mess.
“I ain’t cute!—I’ll mess you up, first of all,” she began. “Second of all, I do too talk properly! Unless you’s tryin’ ta start’a fight wit’ all’a New Bark Town, I suggest ya put a cork in it.”
“And t’ird—” but by this point, she’d lost track of what her third point had been. “…’da point is, I ain’t cute, I’s a freakin’ zubat outta hell.”
「Echo will have you know that he was created very close to New Bark Town and knows for a fact they don’t all talk like that.」 Heck, even Echo had a bit of their accent thanks to how he was created, though his odd speaking habits tend to stand out so much that it pretty much goes unnoticed.
「And Echo wasn’t trying to start anything, he’s sorry if it seemed like he was. If you don’t want to be called cute, then what should Echo call you??」
???:
“’Designed’?” What a peculiar word choice—but Kris sooner attributed it to some bogus life philosophy, citing an inability to change and saying it’s just how he was made. Poor kid. Luckily, she was here to help!
“Y’know what’s really supah cute? Usin’ propa’ gramma’ and talkin’ like a normal person.”
(Which is rich coming from you, Kris.)
「Echo kinda doubts that. Besides, you don’t ‘talk properly’ but Echo still thinks you’re cute!!」 He huffed. As if he’d try changing the way he’d speak, even if it wasn’t the cutest. Echo wouldn’t be Echo if he didn’t talk like Echo!!
「Echo likes talking like this, anyway. He thinks it’s waaaay easier than learning a new way to speak!!」
???:
Cool! Kris was inclined to agree: she was cool. Her hair was cool, too. “Hell yeah it is,” she affirmed. “All’a me’s one hundred percent natural!”
Her wide grin only receded the tiniest bit when he clarified that he, himself, was Echo. Not that there was anything disappointing about his identity—she just never understood people with those bizarre verbal tics.
“Er—yeah, nice ta meet’cha too,” she said. “Eva’… considered usin’ first-person pronouns, Echo?”
「Wow... Echo is super jealous!!」
He thought for a moment.「Hm... Nope, Echo has never thought about it. He was designed to be super cute, so he talks in a super cute way. He probably wouldn’t be able to stop even if he wanted to.」 He hadn’t exactly tried it, but he doubted that it was possible. Besides, he thought the way he talked was fine as it was.

Amazing, huh? This kid was already earning brownie points.
“S’all natural, kid. Y’can’t get ‘dis kinda authentic bounce no matta’ what product ya use.” She knew. She’d seen people try.
“…Now who’s ‘dis ‘Echo’ ‘dat wanted ta know?” As far as she could tell, this guy was alone.
「How cool!!」He beamed at the other. Echo was very impressed by this lady’s genes. 「Is your hair colour also natural??」
「Ah,」 he pointed at himself.「Echo is Echo. He’s very pleased to meet you, ma’am!!」

「...Echo wonders how your hair stays shaped like that. It looks amazing!!」
???:
“Um…sure. It’s not actually too far from where we are. It’s just down the block, see?” And he points towards where the police station was. He couldn’t help wondering why, though…did it have something to do with his aura?
Well, that was easier than he thought it would be. 「Echo thanks you greatly, kind sir!! Now, if you’ll excuse him, he needs to get as faaaaar away from there as possible. Echo was never here, okay??」
Professor Sycamore:
“Echo is… always lost? That’s.. a little extreme there, Echo. I don’t want you to be lost! And erm.. do you mind me asking how I will get into trouble? You’re just an ordinary person, oui? I do not see a problem with me interacting with you.” As long as he got to help the poor boy, he saw no problem in talking to him, let alone being around him! “I can’t leave you be if you’re just gonna be lost..”
「Oh no, Echo is very far from ordinary. Practically every region is trying to find him!! It’s why he’s always lost. The more lost Echo is, the less likely he is to be found!! Echo is brilliant, right??」 He thought that his plan sounded logical. At least, it did to him. 「A lotta people are trying to find Echo, which is a real pain for him because anyone he hangs around is seen as an accomplice!!」

“…That sucks. Human beings are awful pieces of shit sometimes.” Himself included… Now he feels bad for giving the kid such a hard time before now. “Well, it doesn’t matter. You’re your own person now, and that’s all that matters.”
「Oh, but humans are such wonderful creatures!! If it weren’t for them, Echo wouldn’t have had a chance to be alive!! Nor would have this meeting ever happened!! 」He smiles brightly.「Echo is fine with being a copy, because Echo is still Echo, no matter what he is!!」
