Nothing says unbridled passion like a treeless cul-de-sac, right? That’s what Nathaniel Hood, who writes for Streets.mn and Strong Towns, and his new bride-to-be were thinking when they shot these engagement photos as a gag.

Hood said on his website:

"Engagement photos are either urban or rural. They are either a former factory or a leafy meadow, the brick wall of a forgotten factory or an empty beach. Never the subdivision. Never the cul-de-sac.

We wanted to capture the ambiance of the American subdivision.”

"The Delphi Antinous was found in July 1893 during the excavations done by the archaeologist Théophile Homolle and the École Française d'Athènes, close the temple of Apollo, and it was discovered still standing upright as seen in this photo taken as the statue was being unearthed.

The statue, lovingly polished for centuries, was, in some Barbarian incursion, toppled over, loosing both arms, Afterwards, however, it was gently raised and re-erected without its arms in another chapel further up the sacred way.

Sometime later, some followers of Antinous lovingly buried the statue, standing upright, to preserve it from being completely destroyed by Christian iconoclasts, after Theodosius I in 380 declared Christianity the only legitimate imperial religion and fostered the destruction of the Temple of Apollo of Delphi.

The site was completely destroyed by zealous Christians in an attempt to remove all traces of Paganism — and of the Religion of Antinous, the last of the Classical Gods..."

The station is located at the center of the National Radio Quiet Zone, a region of approximately 34,000 square kilometers in West Virginia and parts of Maryland.

Within the Quiet Zone, radio transmissions are severely restricted: omnidirectional and high-powered transmissions (such as wireless internet devices and FM radio stations) are not permitted.

The listening station, which forms part of the global ECHELON system, was designed in part to take advantage of a phenomenon called moonbounce.

Moonbounce involves capturing communications and telemetry signals from around the world as they escape into space, hit the moon, and are reflected back towards Earth.

The photograph is a long exposure under the full moon light.”

Met a pilot the other day who referred me to the aviation maintenance acronym PFM, which actually stands for “pure fucking magic”. Typically used when a system with incomprehensible errors is turned off, let sit for a few minutes, and turned back on to work perfectly. Fixed via PFM.
