A pair of British jack (cavalry) boots, c. 1710-1740, with details of one of the engraved metal spurs and a stitched repair. Via the National Museums of Scotland.
Take a look at these African peach moths (Egybolis vaillantina). The shades of blue on their wings are so striking against the bright hues and dark edgings. Living art, right?

What is everyone's favourite kind of biscuit/cookie?
something i have always found really weird is when english texts italicize words from other languages.

I SAW THIS IN THE PORTLAND ART MUSEUM! ITS HUGE!
it shimmers like no gemstones i've ever seen: green as malachite and emerald but shot through with opal, gold, copper. photographs can't do it justice because of how it shines, as well as the way the actual material elements have their own dimensions. you can lean in and study all the fine lines of the circuits or step back and admire how the rearranged whole forms new patterns. it's one of the most beautiful creations i've ever seen.
Love to see modern computing technology proudly embracing its textile roots
This is on permanent display in the Portland Art Museum at the entrance of the Indigenous art exhibit - I need people to know that this was made by a Saulteaux / Yellow Quill First Nation member and itās a sentinel that reminds museum goers of ātraditionalā Indigenous art but that Indigenous people are ALIVE and CONTEMPORANEOUS!
It was the white figure that amazed her. It looked just like a statue, like the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Catholic church. She stared at the sparkling silver threads that seemed to move out from the figure in all directions, threads made out of some kind of dancing light. And as she moved higher, she saw that the silver threads stretched out, tangling with other threads, to make a giant net all over the whole world. ā THE QUEEN OF THE DAMNED, Anne Rice
