I chose this Ted Talk, as I feel that our media needs to have a duty of care and responsibility, for what it publishes. Particularly, its portrayal of muslims and immigrants, which currently only serves to encourage racism and division, while exacerbating people’s fears and ignorances.

Exploring the bizarre and exploitative imagery of Gossip Magazines.

I wanted to collect and experiment with these images, to display the vicious and superficial content, of these magazines. Where death, celebrity weddings, parentless children and nipple slips, are all considered ‘juicy’ gossip. Is this the desperate efforts of a money obsessed media? Or, is it just demand and supply? In a way, these magazines serve as a wider metaphor for today’s culture. Where masses obsess over celebrities, beauty and money.

REVIEW; AUDIENCE EXPERIENCE. We were given head sets, and sat on a big mass of bean bags. Low on the floor and close together, the experience felt informal and intimate. As the film played, the audience at times laughed, but for the most part was silently focused. The flashing images and random storylines, were fun and confusing to watch, though it seemed more the experience of the many tv's and interaction of the headsets, that brought the audience. Another interesting part of the experience, was how the closness of the audience, created a dynamic where people were highly aware of each others behaviour and copied it. If one member began to talk then others would follow, but if silent, no one would talk.
