remus could remember the days where he’d hide behind large books just to keep the world from staring down at him. there wasn’t anything he hated more than being the way he was. from the cursed scar that split his lip to his hands that looked as if they belonged to an elder gentleman. he knew that the scars were the first thing people saw when they met him. though, he kind of felt as if that wasn’t the first thing james saw. he liked to think that he charmed the marauders with his intelligence and his quick wit. ( – his overwhelming kindness was also a plus, but remus never liked to think highly of himself in any account. ) he was a fucking werewolf and even if he didn’t choose that fate– it still felt as if someone was trying to make his life the worst it could possibly be. they hadn’t completely succeeded, because here he was actually happy for the first time in weeks. all he had to do was spend time with james.
he never got personally offended that james was busy now. he was happy for him. so fucking happy and while remus was normally a playful drunk, the warm recollection of his appreciation towards james flooded him like an ocean. ❝ right, like i’m not sappy, ❞ there was a pause, then a laugh upon the realization that he most certainly was not sappy. remus was sentimental, but hardly sappy. he hated outwardly expressing his feelings in fear of fucking things up. ❝ i just think you’re saying that because i’m a lot less menacing without my furry little claws, ❞ he wiggled his fingers, clawing at the air playfully. ❝ we should go somewhere super muggle. pretend magic isn’t real for a little bit. ❞
Remus was in luck. At the age of eleven, the scars that covered him barely concerned James. He was too wrapped up in actually being around other boys his age. He had been a moving force colliding with an immovable object. Breaking down his friend’s walls had been a long but rewarding task. He wouldn’t trade the friendship he had with Remus for anything. With the end of his auror training coming soon, all sorts of order missions, and his new marriage, James felt like he had barely had time to see Remus, any of his friends really.
A loud, genuine laugh left James at Remus’ comment. He swatted the claws away, “ Those furry little claws may hurt like a bugger, but they still are a part of you. And I love you. ” He responded, looking over at Remus with a serious look on his face at the end. He held eye contact with his friend for a few moments before he finally cracked. Letting out pent up laughter, James had to stop walking for a moment, bending over slightly to catch his breath as the laughs died down. At the mention of somewhere muggle, James’ eyes lit up. He loved everything about the muggle world, he was so amazed at all the things muggles had made that seemed magic but weren’t. “ There’s a petrol station down the road, ” He replied eagerly, picking up the pace to catch up with Remus again “ I bet I can beat you there. ” He added after a beat, stop and bending into a dramatic running start position like a gold medalist athlete. He looked up at Remus with a toothy grin on his face.
