Normal People is a beautiful story and the acting is exquisite. The co-stars are young and will soon become social media’s new darlings. All I can think is “Please don’t let fame destroy you. Please learn from the mistakes others have made. Please stay away from Hollywood.” 😩😩😩

Okay. This is getting embarrassing. Sam is being lauded for his “bravery” in speaking out. There’s a lot of bravery being exhibited in this world right now - by a lot of folks who are not nearly as well compensated Sam. Sitting out a pandemic in the sunshine and ocean breezes of a luxury Hawaiian rental. whining on-line about being bullied, and consequently getting your ego stroked by friends and strangers, is not really what I’d call bravery.

For the fans?

I watched the ep and cannot for the life of me understand why Sam thinks this one was “for the fans.” I’d give it a 1.5 star out of 4. It was a bit of a mishmash. It was too much of bit pieces crammed together with little explanation of the story lines. I just couldn’t get past some of the things the audience just has to accept. It was rushed and rotten really. There is just actually too much to critique I don’t have the care to go into everything so this is just the highlights.

One of the things I don’t get is why is everything so bright now? Do they make nuclear candles that work like overhead lights?

Of the sex scene. My hubby said “she likes to show her breasts” speaking of Cait so it was bright enough to show something. And no we did not need a sex montage, especially Murcasta—in a stick shack no less, but they were all way too bright—not believable that a fire and a few candles could make it so bright—it just takes you out of the story.

How is Jamie a master craftsman now? Do they have access to a Home Depot for all the fancy wood trim? I just kept thinking how is that house so nice?

And why does Claire have so many patients lining up like the local ready-clinic? OTT

Now LJG? Why was he even there? It was ridiculous. Are they trying to fulfill DB’s contract appearances? LJG could’ve written a letter.

Then watching Bree have this instance of PTSD and then whoops two seconds later she can just shake it off in front of Claire.

So for the fans huh, Sam? Was it is the crying breakdown bit you did when you released your Godfather from his promise? Was that supposed to make up for the Bree photographs where you couldn’t muster enough emotion to show how relieved you were to see your 20 year sacrifice of making Claire return to raise your daughter turned out? I can say it didn’t make up for it to me.

It was mediocre at best. It fell flat for me. This fan was not impressed.

I’d like to add to this. Agree with most of what you said @fanofjamesandclairefraser. I enjoyed it but to me it’s still too much like a hallmark channel movie with nudity and sex. Maybe it’s the lighting like you said, but there’s no atmosphere any more. It’s too sanitized and over-acted - if that’s a thing. Didn’t like C’s performance and really hated her wig. That look on her face when she smiled🤮. Murtagh and Jocasta in bed = 🤮🤮🤮. Super disappointed in the house. Looks to me like they got hit up by one of those door to door discount siding salesman.

All that, I guess. I mean, she thinks she’s being funny. And it was funny, maybe, for about a minute, but now it’s too much. She plays too much for it not to be a red flag for something. Likely it’s her coping mechanism for all those feelings she had/has for him that she denies or can’t act upon. Ya know, people tend to tear down things they covet but can’t have so as to make them seem less covetous. But, who fucking knows with those two being so damn shady. The fandom went to shit because S and C are incapable of living their lives honestly and with the maturity one would expect from grown-ass adults. They came to view fans as a bottomless source of money and votes but couldn’t be bothered to do a live tweet or take a selfie to show their appreciation. The show went to shit because Matt Roberts and Maril Davis weren’t up to the task. The writers sucked and they lost the essence of Jaime and Claire. RDM checked out for whatever reason and my guess is the leadership at Starz had something to do with that. JMO 😊

I don’t mean to keep picking on her. I guess I’m just overly disappointed in her. After 5 years of being in the spotlight with ol, I’d expect her to at least TRY to pull off a top shelf look. Superb styling. Engaged and enthusiastic interviews. Even the old ‘faking it’ til she’s made it. But the outfits ALL THE TIME are borderline hideous and ill fitting, and the interview responses she gives literally say nothing at all, while managing to be so generic, they sound robotic.

Not to be mean, mind you, only as a mirror of sorts. Granted, it’s a futile mirror in regards to her personally. Rather, it’s a mirror for us. Fans. Especially the ones who continue to prop her up everywhere with false praise. Honest criticism is imperative for an artist. It’s disrespectful to an actor to lie about the quality of their work. She’s not 3 years old bringing you a finger painting for Mother’s Day. She’s 40 fucking years old. Time is not on her side. When she has a booger hanging out her nose and you tell her that her face looks flawless and she goes on confidently to perform over and over with that damn booger, you are hurting her with your “kindness”. If she has done less that stellar work and you lie and tell her it was the best ever, you are an asshole. You are allowing her to be vulnerable to much harsher media criticism down the road.

Fashion? Who cares. Performance? Tell the truth. Role you didn’t care for? Say it. Tired of her not answering questions in interviews meaningfully? Say it. She has friends and family galore to bestow sweet squishy lies upon her.

She interviews like an empty headed insecure 20 something. It’s hard to watch. She needs to work on that pronto or all her roles will be of the long suffering support role wallpaper variety.

But I need more than a sketchy church online calendar and talk of a wedding by friends. It could be another friend in the group marrying idk. Where is the evidence?

I have been on Tumblr for literally hours over the past two days, looking for concrete evidence that Caitriona married Tony McGill today. The only thing I have seen is a church calendar that indicates that an A. McGill reserved a church in England for a Roman Catholic wedding ceremony. No bride’s name was given. Everything else I have read is pure speculation on the part of some pretty upset, disappointed, and angry fans who have made some huge assumptions about the “situation.” If I have missed something, please feel free to post it here on my blog. Set me straight. Fill me in. Share your evidence. Enlighten me. As I said, I have seen nothing concrete to support what many fans are posting about, as if it were a fact. Where is the evidence? 👈

The Rule of Coincidences

Kona wasn’t their first rodeo, kids.

     I’ve seen a few posts recently that talk about coincidences as they relate to Sam and Cait’s whereabouts and relationships.  Is it a coincidence that they both made Los Angeles their home base during the last few months of the hiatus after Sam finished his filming duties? Is it a coincidence that, after leaving LA, both ended up in NYC?  Is it a coincidence that they both vacationed in Kona or that the resort Cait thanked followed both of them?  Is it a coincidence that they posted pictures with pretty much every current and former OL costar/production team member they saw while in LA but, oops, forgot to take a picture with each other?  Is it a coincidence that Sam makes pancakes in Cait’s kitchen on Valentine’s Day or watches her run a marathon from her bedroom (and bed) with Eddie in his lap?

     I was reminded of something I read a while back from Seth Abramson, who is an attorney, professor and author that I follow on twitter.  He posted a simple “rule of coincidences” that he used in his criminal investigations. Obviously we’re not talking about something as serious as a criminal investigation here, but the general principle of this rule can apply to any set of coincidences, including those surrounding SC.  When looked at individually, some of the things we’ve witnessed might be viewed as mere chance, but when these individual occurrences pile up one after the other, can they truly still be considered coincidental? 

 The rule is:

     1 coincidence?   Yes

     2 coincidences?  Yes, maybe

     3 coincidences? Likely not

     4 coincidences?  No

“Yes” means a coincidence may be just that.   “No” means what you think is a coincidence isn’t.

Through the years, we’ve amassed a plethora of “receipts” and observed a multitude of things that some choose to dismiss as coincidences.  How many?  Well that’s up for debate.

Sorry, Sam, you need a better source.  It’s way more than 4 total.  In fact, sometimes, even looking only at an individual event, there can be 3 or 4 coincidences surrounding it which, according to the theory above, would mean they’re likely not coincidences at all.  Let’s try it out on Sam’s trip to Big Sur in June 2016.  Were Sam and Cait actually there together?

The Beauty of Big Sur (June 2016)

1 coincidence (Yes):  After finishing their Season 2 promotion is Los Angeles, they both more or less “disappear” for about a week.

Yes, they posted a bit on twitter (less than what would be considered normal for them at the time) and once each on IG during this period, but after June 9th for Sam and June 16th for Cait, we don’t see either again real-time until the LA Dodgers baseball game on June 22nd.  ( Of course, we weren’t  supposed to see one of them there and we most definitely weren’t supposed to see them together.)

2 coincidences (Yes, maybe):  Cait follows Audi’s Tonya Meli in mid-June 2016.   Sam posts his first Audi promotion in the US (in Big Sur, CA) later that same month.

On June 14th Cait did a web interview with Gold Derby.  The interview was posted on twitter the next day (June 15th) by Robert Licuria.  He tagged Cait, who then began to follow him on twitter.  Her follow list also showed that, right before Robert, she followed Tonya Meli from Audi UK. At this point in time, Sam had endorsed Audi but Cait had not (and wouldn’t until January 2017) so the follow was curious.

3 coincidences (Likely not):  Cait’s favorite vacation destination (per a 2014 interview) is the Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur.  Sam takes his June Audi picture in Big Sur…just a few miles from Post Ranch Inn.

SIDEBAR:

Before we move to coincidence #4, let’s talk about latergrams. We know they both post them and, of course, it’s a smart thing for them to do, especially in their industry.  I always assume that any picture posted by Sam or Cait that includes their images (unless tied to official promo events) is a latergram.

On August 3, 2016, for example, Sam posted a picture of himself thanking MPC members for that year’s campaign but didn’t reveal the location of the picture in his post.

By August 3rd, Cait had posted pictures at least insinuating that she was vacationing on the Amalfi Coast and, if memory serves, there was at least a bit of speculation that this August 3rd picture of Sam could possibly be from there. 

But a close look at both Sam’s June 27th Audi posts and this August 3rd picture reveals that they were actually taken in the same place…and at the same time (likely within minutes of each other)… in Big Sur.

So Sam simply took off his jacket and sunglasses, rolled up his sweats and sat on one of the rocks for the MPC picture, but he didn’t post it for several weeks.  With that in mind, it’s also likely that his Audi pics were held for a bit before posting.  He’s not going to want to announce his stay in Big Sur in real-time and risk fans coming in search of him.  (Remember that fan who, after Sam posted his picture in front of the sign in North Carolina later this same year, drove 4 hours just in the hope of finding him there?) 

On to coincidence #4…

4 coincidences (No):  The person who took his pictures in Big Sur is a woman who resembles Cait.

Yes, I base this observation on a reflection (I can hear some of you groaning now.) but, as reflections go, this one is pretty clear.  I just adjusted the picture’s lighting a bit and then highlighted the reflection in sepia so it’s easier to see.

 Here is just the reflection as it’s further lightened/enhanced.

So we have a woman with long, dark hair and a long neck who is wearing comfy-looking clothes in her downtime.  Hmm, who do we…and Sam…know that matches that description?

So, in summary, (1) Sam and Cait are both in California in June 2016, but their whereabouts are unknown for several days after their promotional duties end mid-month.  (2) For no apparent reason, Cait follows Tonya Meli just before completing her final promo interview on June 16th.  Sam posts an Audi pic, tagging Tonya, later that same month. We know he posts latergrams, so he likely took the picture earlier than it was posted.  (3) Sam’s Audi pic is taken in BIg Sur and just a few miles from Cait’s all-time favorite vacation destination. (4) The person who took the picture is reflected on the side of the car and she resembles Cait.  

Conclusion:  4 coincidences = No coincidence.

You say Cait isn’t comfortable with the very explicit sex scenes from the earlier seasons yet she looked just fine acting them out early on lol. I wonder if she’s uncomfortable because they are now possibly in a relationship offscreen. Maybe she feels like it’s too much of a peek into her real life? Either way they don’t need to go overly explicit to sell a good romance. Hopefully her and Sam realize that now as they tackle being producers.

I’ll tell you one thing. When I saw the love scene from The Reckoning I thought to myself: “Man, I don’t think I could do something like that with someone I am not involved with”. Mind you I’m no actor but it was so explicit that I can’t imagine feeling comfortable doing it. Given that she said Sam during the filming of it you can assume that there was something going on.

Now, would them being together make it harder in a sense? Yes, I think so but only if people know that they are together in real life and that is not their case since they are hiding their relationship (at least according to how we see it).

For the “casual fan” they are just two actors with good chemistry so when these scenes go missing the “casual fan” starts wondering what is going on between them. Why were they OK filming those scenes before but not now? Are they getting along? Then the same “casual fan” realizes the biggest change happened in s4 once she was “engaged” and they start creating their own movie about it.

You know, it’s her body and you gotta respect her limits. Thing is they went from flicking his tongue on her nipple to forehead sex and that is just not true to the characters. It’s a travesty. Also, when she auditioned for her role she must have known that Claire had a very healthy sex life. You would think she knew what she was getting into.

But we go back to the core of the problem. The writers don’t understand the characters. They think that getting ready for the season they are filming means reading just that one book the season is based on. How can you understand the characters if you don’t know them like the palm of your hand? It’s impossible. Also they don’t know how to write intimate moments. They just don’t.

I’m sorry for Outlander. I’m sorry for Jamie and Claire. I’m sorry for what it could have been and never will be. What a shame!

The person who carries the most influence with fans is Sam and his response to anything negative is to ignore or defend. Sometimes, ignoring is the best answer but when your career and reputation are at stake I think it’s a good idea to pay attention. If you’re in the business of turning your client into a star and charging a fortune for that service, you should know how to read the pulse of a fandom. Some have suggested that Starz is hoping to attract new fans through Netflix. It’s also likely that they’re trying to create their own buzz by buying new followers on SM. It truly is sad to watch the steady decline but I’d be lying if I didn’t admit to a tiny bit of gloating and a whole lot of SMDH at the same time. Isn’t it funny that all this time they have been fighting for OL to be more than just the chemistry/sex between the two leads and now Maril is baiting the fans with just that. They had everything in the beginning with good acting, out of this world chemistry and good writing. Now they have none of that. I don’t trust them as far as I can throw any of them. 🤷‍♀️

The answers to the survey must have been something else!! I mean, they had heard what people wanted before but I don’t think they imagined people actually taking the time to give their honest opinion about the shit product they produced last season.

There is nothing to hope for when it comes to Outlander. Just listen to what they are saying: Matt, Maril, Cait, Sam, Sophie… Did you get your hopes up when you heard that Sam and Cait were going to be producers? Stop it! Accept it! It ain’t changing.

Because in their mind intimacy equates to nude scenes with Jamie licking Claire’s nipples and Cait has made very sure we know she doesn’t feel comfortable with that, it isn’t happening. They have no writers left that know how to write the quiet, intimate moments so all we are left with is Sam acting so self conscious about where to put his mouth and his hands on the intimate scenes that it takes you completely out of it.

Because we don’t hear Claire’s thoughts anymore all we are left with is scowling Cait and we have no idea why.

If Matt doesn’t understand why people were upset when Jamie didn’t even ask Claire how she was feeling after she was attacked by Bonnet or why people were upset when Claire didn’t even talk about the ring she had worn for 20 years or why people couldn’t understand that Jamie and Claire didn’t make it to Jem’s birth…. there is no hope. No hope!

B O R I N G as fuck around this fandom. What a disgrace what this shitshow has caused. Fans used to be excited and engaged. Meh, I’m pointing fingers at mbr and maril. They could have led their little ‘pack’ differently. Now it’s so obvious that the cast only interact when THEY need something from us; usually money. Other than that, it’s a big FAT adios amigos. I’m a really nice person and now I can’t stand any of them and hope the show ends earlier than they plan on.

My recent trip was to Catalonia. Few days on the coast, few days in the woods, and two very sad soul sucking days in Barcelona. I had a certain expectation of the place due to its reputation of being, “cool” “awesome”, “my favorite city in Europe” so many people said. It turned out to be crowded, dirty, and rude. Why? Tourism and greed. Cruise ships stop here. They sell fast passes at the Sagrada Familia. Not one time did a Catalonian wait on me anywhere. I’m sure at one time Barcelona was an authentic experience of a unique culture, not anyomore. People ruined it. It has been commodified for the masses. Just like they took the outlander out of Outlander, they have taken Catalonia out of Barcelona. So, yeah, it’s boring, but we have only ourselves blame. They gave the fans just what they wanted. Themselves.

I have to disagree with you my darling wretched one.  It’s not the fans who ruined the experience, it’s because everyone involved in the making of this show suck dry ice.  Where have you ever seen production and actors abuse their fans like these clowns have?  From supporting bullies, to Liking tweets abusing fans, to Blocking fans, to soliciting for money for everything and everybody under the sun, etc.  Plus if all of that weren’t bad enough, the scripts and acting since mid-Season 2 are just shite.  Nope, this is all on them.

I hope everybody involved with Outlander is asking themselves the same question - how and where did it all go so wrong when everything started out so brilliantly. I’m inclined to lay the blame squarely at the feet of the 2 leads who decided one day to fuck with fans and accuse us of being delusional and having overactive imaginations. It set the fandom on a downward course that we’ve never really recovered from. That one bad decision set off a cascading avalanche of more bad decisions and really bad PR topped off with really shitty writing and direction. ✌️
