This is an illustration I did using vector graphics in illustrator. I will consider creating more to sell on Etsy potentially. Simple logo designs and prints might be nice. #Illustrator https://www.instagram.com/p/BzOWYvoB5vU/?igshid=czmyopvs2eu3
I got a reply from Smart Pants Limited for a graphic designer application and they asked me to create a set of products to promote Fathers Day and a fan interest. These included a Tshirt design, mug, apron and other mock ups. For Fathers Day I stuck with a superhero theme and for the fan illustration, I chose Halo because I believe it to be one of the core aspects of my inspiration and it's one of my favourite game franchises. All created using Photoshop and Illustrator. #AdobeIllustrator #AdobePhotoshop https://www.instagram.com/p/Byvoh7TljyZ/?igshid=14js2vwia6p6a
As part of my glass of liquid testing, modelled a can of Monster Energy drink and put it in a glass as well. The bubbles are created using an HV Emitter and placed into the glass. I had a go at making ice but it didn't refract very well with the Dielectric. #Lightwave3D #DielectricNode #DeltaNode #HVEmitter #MonsterEnergy https://www.instagram.com/p/ByXzf7lFLSY/?igshid=1fcw4pvddquvs
This is a different angle of my glasses of liquid. https://www.instagram.com/p/ByXzEGNFD6Q/?igshid=1uxarfao3vvtg
These are multiple glasses of liquid with different nodes for each. They are different liquids and represent water, milk, orange juice, bubblegum pop and red wine. The glasses are made with dielectric with each liquid being sigma2, delta and Principle BDSF. The lighting is again, HDRI and environment lighting. #Lightwave3D #DielectricNode #DeltaNode #NodeEditor #Sigma2 #PrincipleBDSF https://www.instagram.com/p/ByXy7YQFMHk/?igshid=otcqozfdct08
I did a test with a glass and some liquid. The glass is made with a disc and the use of Weld Average to eliminate the ngons. The glass is created using the Dielectric Node and the liquid is flipped polys on the inside of the glass. The surface is the liquid is separate mesh. I've used a Delta Node to texture the liquid and a curved backdrop. #Lightwave3D #DielectricNode #DeltaNode #NodeEditor https://www.instagram.com/p/ByXyYIUF1iI/?igshid=blvdrr9ose48
This is another shot of my creme egg scene. This closeup of the eggs shows more of the oozing cream out the egg. The ooze is made using a molded cube and for the textures, procedural texturing. #Lightwave3D #CremeEgg #ProceduralTextures https://www.instagram.com/p/ByXxl4GFZuM/?igshid=1s42x6jsmzv2f
This is for a little fun as well as part of a tutorial. I modelled some creme eggs using a Ball and edge bevels or chamfering. The logos is made using an EPS for the text and the splat with a molded cube. The labels are made using UVs on a flat egg shape without the grooves. #Lightwave3D #CremeEgg #Chamfer #Edge Bevel https://www.instagram.com/p/ByXxITeFNL6/?igshid=1ttq1w20757z9
This is a cleaner and better product of my classic alarm clock. Modelled and Rendered in Lightwave. #Lightwave3D #AlarmClock https://www.instagram.com/p/ByXwnMqFpC5/?igshid=145j7i57rfqu2
This is a clock I modelled, textured and rendered in Lighwave Modeller and Layout. The lighting is made using HDRI lighting, environment lighting and an area light to add a bit more faded shadows. https://www.instagram.com/p/ByXwXEplGnK/?igshid=183hnc0p0t8qt
PRODUCTION STARTED
Began modelling the structure for the museum - it is a painful start as I didn’t really have time to design the final as my tutor suggested last minute refinement of ideas.
Getting final bits of research
Tuesday 24th April 2018 - Either tonight or tomorrow, I will contact the people I’ve managed to get into contact with and ask about...
What was the Colliery to the Ollerton Community?
How did it affect the village after closing down?
What was the effect of the ‘84 miner’s strike?
If possible:
What was it like to work at the Ollerton Colliery - smells, atmosphere, the people?
Ideas for the Museum
4-5 Zones (Coalface, Pit Top, Train Station, Machine Row and Tunnel)
Gift Shop - take away souvenirs
Ollerton Colliery exhibit - Mining history, 84 strike, Coal Queens, Ollerton of Yesteryear, Miner’s Welfare and potentially a miner’s memorial as well.
Zones:
Pit Top: Can consist of a couple of Headstocks, potentially have a Zip Line, make it interactive, maybe be active Pit Heads as well.
Coalface: Consists of a coalface or wall of coal or potentially a coal structure and the Drill Zone, where you can see a drill in action.
Machine Row: Where some mining machinery can be seen in action, Steam Winding Wheels, Drills, Arch Setting Devices.
Tunnel: Potential underground experience for families where they can experience what it was like in the pit.
Train Station: Bit of history of the train station, where coal was delivered to steelworks and other outlets of the industry. Steam trains are more relevant.
Extras: Could be a potential Mine Cart activity along with a pickaxe activity that people may be involved in, maybe not child friendly.
Refreshments: For sustenance, there could be a Miner’s Welfare styled cafe for visitors and families. These may serve drinks in metal cups and general bottles and maybe some traditional plates for meals.
Gifts and Souvenirs: To take a piece of the colliery with you, you could visit a potential Gift Shop that may give people a chance to buy commemorative plates, merchandise branded by the mining museum and may be some consumables.
Environmental Conditions: With machinery, industrial equipment and technology, particularly the coal can generate a memorable atmosphere and smells, that people can envisage the mining industry. The Zones may allow them to actively experience the processes and history of mining and how it made the community today. The noises may be a problem so I might look for a way to contain them within the building but either way, that may help recreate the same sounds that once occupied the village. There might be problems with health and safety that can be worked out particularly for children and potentially hazards that may affect specific people with conditions.
In terms of my drawing and design, I will redesign a bit of the current final to match it to my new ideas. This means changes to the look of the architecture to fit the zones in, things that are exciting and potentially interactive. I can include drawings of the inside, designing the zones and other elements instead of random drawings of the interior. In order to avoid into time management pitfalls, I may spend as much time as possible, maybe cutting away free time I don’t really do anything with, take away at least an hour of sleep to push my progress back into place.
Idea Revision
Going to revise the idea of a shopping centre and make it something more interactive and exciting - a Museum that has some interactive elements.
These are final top views before I forget to add. These show the building from above and from an angle so you can see all the land and space that is required to build the architecture and set it up in 3D. I would probably go with the third one and it’s also idea 2 for the aerial views. I am going with this one because it appeals more towards the community than the others and uses those mining elements, materials and textures, or at least it will when I model and texture it.
To conclude my design work in sketchbook, I have done some interior designs to give an idea of what sort of materials, architecture patterns and character are used for the inside. The main corridor is going be tunnel-like with the arching metal girders and there is going to be an obvious industrial pattern of steel girders to represent the mining architecture. If I do plan to put the memorial underground, it would be within a chamber beneath the centre of the building where it can be dark, smell of oil and coal and the davy lamp memorial can be lit to light the chamber. There is two floors to this building, there may be a third for offices, security and on-site personnel, but these parts won’t be accessible to the viewer as they are unauthorised.
