Of course im sure. I cant just let you go back into the storm. Iâm Sophie. pleasure to met you.
Pleasure to meet you too! So.. what is this place?
"Maybe it doesnât end that way sometimes," she shrugged. "Maybe there are people who just need a little bit of lovinâ to heal those wounds. But a lot of the time theyâre just too deep Ellie. They can only fix it if they want to, and a lot of the time theyâre okay with being how they are." Caroline shifted slightly on the couch so she was facing the girl, her frown returning. "You know if you were ever going to put yourself out there, Matt would be the one to do it with," she told her. "Relationships are weird and scary if youâve never been in one before, but you can trust Matt. He wonât let you down. And heâs incredibly patient too. Trust me, I know, Iâve painted several murals with that boy and heâs the only one who stayed the whole time."Â
"I know that he's wonderful.. we bonded over similar things we've gone through in the past.. he's very supportive and I think he understands the way I work.. but I really don't want to rush into it and I don't want to hurt him, because I know that I'll hate myself if I do," she explained, letting out a long sigh afterwards. "I don't want to hurt him but I don't want to disappoint him either.. he asked me out for dinner and I said yes.. so we'll see how it works out. But if I freak out over something, be prepared to answer your phone.. because I'm probably going to call you and be all hysterical over something.." she smiled at the thought, finding it funny. She had always been so sure of herself, but now she was discovering this completely new side of her and it was actually really scary, just as Caroline had said.
you don't know me | hayley and eleanora
Hayley only nodded, her expression sober as she waited for the girlâs reaction. She figured she should explain some more, how sheâd found her and who she was. âMy nameâs Hayley,â she told her, realising she hadnât even bothered to introduce herself. âI was born in Dauntless and then my parents were killed. They got me to my Aunt in Abnegation before Erudite could intervene. Apparently young children in my faction donât fare well without parents. I donât know why you didnât get sent away with me⌠But maybe⌠I donât know,â she shook her head, there was no point on overthinking it.Â
"Iâve been trying to find out more about my parents since I transferred to Dauntless. I didnât even know you existed until a couple of months ago. Iâve been trying to find out who you were ever since." Hayley cleared her throat again, searching the girlâs face for what she was feeling. She was hard to read, thatâs for sure. "Listen, I know this is crazy and out of the blue, and you lost your mom so you probably donât want to even think about family right nowâŚ" she trailed off, thinking about how when she was a child and had learned about what had happened to her parents how sheâd rejected anyone who dare call themselves her family. It was probably one of the reasons why she had never properly bonded with her Aunt. Family was a joke, until she grew up and realised it was more important than she ever knew. "But if weâre sistersâŚ" Hayley shook her head, changing her mind. She didnât want to force her expectations onto her. "You donât have to do anything. Iâll leave right now if thatâs what you want."Â
"Well, I'm unsure of how much you know about me.. but all I know about my 'family' is that I was adopted by Jeanine.. I've unfortunately never quite looked into it. I suppose I never felt the need, especially after she.." her voice faded away and she looked down into the table for a moment. "After she died. You're right. I don't really want to think about my family right now.. I'm doing just fine on my own," Nora admitted. She didn't see a point in trying to keep the truth away from Hayley, she seemed like a genuine and nice girl. "But.. I can only begin to imagine what you've gone through to find me.. I mean, being Dauntless and all.. and research.. sometimes doesn't go together," she smiled, trying to poke fun.
"I'm going to have to be slightly realistic, now, though.. and ask you if you actually have any legitimate proof of us being sisters. If you don't, we could probably just get our DNAs tested or something like that. I mean, as you said.. it's very out of the blue.." She didn't want to doubt, though. She wanted to just accept this story and get her family back. She wasn't lying when she said that she'd been just fine on her own, but she had been feeling very lonely and she was missing having someone around the house that she knew she could trust because of the blood bond. This wasn't always the case with all families, she knew that, but she felt like that was the case with her and Jeanine. Or.. that's what she wanted to feel. "And I'm just wondering.. how much you know about me... exactly," she added. She was curious about this girl too, she wanted to know more about her and how her life had been up until this point, but she knew that could probably be a little bit too much to ask as of right now so she remained silent.
Matt smiled at her. He had to admit that he would have loved to live her life. That he would have a loved a mother that would insist on cooking herself. That he would have loved people taking care of him. Yes, he knew how to cook, but only because he had to learn it all by himself. There had no-one been there to help him, there had no-one be there to teach him, there had no-one been there to punish him when it went wrong. âIâm sure youâll learn it soon.â He swallowed. âIâm gonna teach you everything you want to know, okay?â
He thought about her question for a while. Should he ask her to come to Amity? But with the killings and the explosion that could mean something would happen. What kind of date would he be if he would let that happen? âI could pick you up at Erudite after my practise?â He shrugged his shoulders. He had never really been in Erudite before, but he was sure that would be some place he could pick her up.
"But Iâm not gonna play a song for you." His cheeks started to blush. "You know, Iâd love to, butâŚ" He looked up at her with a smirt on his face. "I only knew two chords." He gently brushed her shoulders. "I guess youâre better on that piano than I am on my guitar."
He paused for a moment. He didnât care what she would talk about tomorrow. It was nice to listen to her, nice to be with her. She could ramble as much as she wanted and everything would be interesting. âI still wanna know all about it.â
Nora giggled, happy to hear that he would teach her. "I'll gladly learn whatever you want to teach me. As long as you just learn me about safety in a kitchen first, I think we'll be good.. I actually did almost set my kitchen on fire once.. I was trying to boil noodles and I forgot to pour the water in.." she blushed furiously now. She didn't know why she was sharing these embarrassing things, but she felt like Matt could use the distraction, and it made them come closer. "I'm a pretty hopeless cook, as of right now. Let's hope you can change that?"
She thought about it. To her, it didn't really matter if he came to pick her up, or if she just went to his place. She had learned to navigate around the city now, and even then, she could probably just summon a driver for her if she didn't feel like bringing out maps and adresses. "Yeah.. that could definitely work. Pick me up at eight, then," she said and nodded confidently. She was actually incredibly excited about this, it would be her very first date, and with a guy so nice and handsome like Matt. She felt lucky, but she would never quite voice it out to him because she wasn't really like that. She would show him instead. Somehow.
Nora pouted up at Matt. "Are you sure you can resist this face? Are you completely sure that you're not going to play something for me? I don't even care if it's twinkle twinkle little star.. please?" she fluttered her eyelashes and allowed the pout to slowly turn into a small yet hopeful smile, leaning her head back down against his shoulder. "I'll play something for you if you play something for me, okay? My playing would have to wait, though.. since my piano is at home."
She melted a little bit on the inside. She was used to being told to shut up every time she got excited by some topic, since the majority of people she was surrounded by weren't interested in things like quantum physics and other similar topics. It was hard for her to find fellow Erudites nowadays, she only really knew Harriet, and she had disappeared. "Alright.. if you're completely sure about that," she mumbled.
"Just helping out when I can. You should be really heartless to leave someone outside when itâs this bad outside." She looked through the window where she could still hear the rain clattering against. "It looks like weâre stuck here for a while. I wasnât planning to get out now, and I think you feel the same, donât you?" She was glad to see that Eleanora seemed to become more at ease. "Donât worry about that, everyone would have done the same." She put her feet under her when she sat down, trying not to look at the bar she still had to clean and the chairs that were still everywhere over the place. She wouldnât be able to leave anytime soon anyway, as she had just said to the girl. "Exactly, you get it! I like it here, so itâs ok. And what about you⌠can I call you Nora? Eleanora is such a long name." She remembered how her parents wouldnât want to stop calling her Camille, and as soon as possible she told everyon that just Cami was ok. "Still in school?"
"I know a lot of people in this town that would've just let me stand out there and freeze to death," She honestly replied. She wasn't lying, but she didn't share the other side of the coin which was that she also knew a lot of people in that town that would help her. She got a little bit curious about which faction Camille belonged to, so she just went right ahead and asked. "Are you in Abnegation? Or Amity?" she was just guessing, there was of course a chance that Camille was just a normal human being with a heart. "But yes, I definitely feel the same. If you need any help with cleaning this place up in a bit, I'll gladly help. Think of it as me returning the favor. The tea is good, the blanket is warm and the company is excellent," she smiled. She actually wanted to help, too, not just because she felt somewhat obligated to do so, it would also go faster if they did it together. She sipped from the tea again. "Nora.. Ellie.. Who cares? As long as it's got something to do with my name, it's completely fine. Yeah, I'm still in school."
She immediately looked away. She had to learn to be able to stand such remarks. Who already almost started crying over a nick name? No backbone, this girl. He wasnât going to change anything, just because this child couldnât handle it. She was the one who asked him to help, she had to live with the consequences. He started to shiver a bit as well, soaked as he was, and only wearing a shirt. She needed his jacket more than he did, but still, it was cold here. Suddenly he saw her leaving, using his jacket as protection against the rain. He ran after her, grabbed her arm, forced her to stop. The rain was still pouring down, and if he hadnât already been cold before running after her, he sure was now. âWhere do you think youâre going?â He looked at the sky. âThereâs still lighting. I thought you were so afraid of that?â He dragged her back inside, not wanting to be out there longer than necessary. âBesides, youâre still having my jacket. I have only one, and Iâm not letting a girl like you take it away. You may use it in here, but the moment you cross that threshold, youâll have to hand it back.â He grabbed her other arm, forcing her to look at him. âDo you understand?â
She felt a firm grip wrap around her arm and she knew that there wasn't really any idea to try to fight against him. He was larger and stronger than her. She spun around and glared at him, face contorted with anger. "I'm leaving. I'm leaving you and your shitty attitude. I've done nothing to fucking deserve this treatment, Damon!" she yelled at him. For once, she was letting it all out. "I fucking care about you! Yes, you're a pain in the ass and you're an asshole, but I still care! And in return I get.. rudeness and cruelty. Why?" she threw the jacket of his toward his chest with her free arm, allowing the rain to soak up her hair and the rest of her body again. She didn't care. "I don't care about my fear. Anything is better than having to take insults from somebody that barely even knows you," she spat on the ground but didn't resist when she was pulled back inside. She huffed angrily and tried to contain the feeling. She felt the urge to just punch him in the face. "Once you start treating me like an actual human being, then I'll start listening to you," she simply replied and tried to shrug his hands off of her.
No, no no. Iâm not letting you go back out there. You can stay here until the storm is over.
Alright.. if you're completely sure. Thanks. I'm Eleanora.
He shrugged. âIf I like calling you smarty-pants, I will call you smarty-pants. Why should I care if you like it or not?â He had to say it amused him to see her so worked up about such a small detail. He started laughing, knowing that would probably not help him to get on her good side. âDonât get your knickers in a twist over it, I wonât change it anyway.â He looked at her back when he turned back to her, smiling over the fact that she at least had the character to hate him for what he had said. She did need the jacket though, he could see it. âItâs okay. I just donât want to get blamed for you getting sick.â But even when he didnât want to admit it, it was more. He didnât like seeing her so cold, and even when he tried to push it away, he wanted to protect this girl. She looked so vulnerable, so⌠so fragile, and somewhere deep inside him, it hit a nerve. He couldnât let this happen, it just couldnât, so he walked away, wrapping his arms around him to try to keep himself from freezing. He was used to it, but that didnât mean he had to like the feeling. Walking helpedd. âYou should move around, thatâll keep you warmerâŚâ He did as he had just told him and walked over to one of the windows. Outside it was still so dark that it could be night, and the rain was still pouring down. âIt seems weâre stuck here for a whileâŚ
Her face fell and she looked sad, eyes averting to the ground. He didn't care. She told him she didn't like it and he didn't care. Of course he didn't. Caroline was right. She forced a blank smile and just nodded, not really completely sure of how to reply. He laughed at her and it felt like a really hard punch right in the face. She wouldn't let him get to her again. "Of course you won't change," she simply responded, her voice cracking. And he, of course, didn't want to get the blame if she happened to get sick. That's why he had given her his jacket. She took a few deep breaths and then raised her eyebrows and pushed her jaw out. "Oh, yes, you're right.. I'm going to move," she looked at the door they had entered through and began to walk towards it, unwrapping his jacket and lifting it up above her head. "Thanks for the help, jackass," she grumbled before kicking the door open and walking back out into the rain. Fuck this. She was going to go home and take a warm bath, she wasn't about to spend over an hour with a douchebag like him. "I'm never stuck anywhere.."
tylerdauntless:
Great.
Yeeep.
"Being yourself sounds great." He smiled at her and felt a little bit uncomfortable for a moment. He had been telling her his entire life story. Maybe only parts of it, but still. It had been something he had never told anyone. He knew that it had been the right thing to do. Not only because she had told him hers, but only because he had to tell someone. He trusted her. Not that he didnât trusted the others. But for some reason he trusted her with that part of him he didnât like. The part of him that thought it had all been his fault. "Youâre a great yourself." He stuttered a little bit. Not really knowing anymore what to say.
"You know, I actually have some experience with cooking." He shrugged his shoulders. "An absent family does have itâs perks, I guess." He smiled at her and felt how the tension disappeared a little bit. It wasnât weird anymore that he had been almost crying. It wasnât weird anymore that he was in the locker room with a girl. It felt good. Better than anything had felt in a long time. "WouldâŚwould you mind coming over tomorrow or so?" He looked up at her. "I have my guitar lesson tonight." He blushed a little bit. He still needed a lot of lessons to get somewhere. "And I like your rambling." He stared straight into her eyes for a moment. "Over dinner you can tell me everything about the thing youâll be working on."
"Well, then you're more fortunate than me... Since my mother was who she was, we always had people around our house, doing stuff for us.. I made snacks for myself, of course, but I've never really cooked lunch or dinner before.." Eleanora blushed. "And whenever I did have the opportunity to cook, something would always happen or.. for some odd reason, my mother would insist on doing it instead. She rarely got to 'take care of me' she said.. I've been really spoiled the majority of my life.. but I trust you and your judgement. If you say you can cook, you can cook.." she smiled at him and tried to keep herself from laughing. She found this fact about her to be somewhat sad too. She was domestically useless. "Maybe you could teach me some things?"
"Not at all, tomorrow sounds great. Just give me a time and a place and I'll be there," she giggled softly. "Lessons.. that's impressive, actually.. I'm pretty convinced that I'll never really be able to play an instrument.. I can only play one song on the piano, and even then.. my fingers stumble over the keys. But music is nice.. I think you should play something for me tomorrow evening.. what do you think?" she flashed her pearly whites. She blushed even deeper. "No, Matt, seriously.. if I start rambling.. just tell me and I'll stop.. it's embarrassing," she replied and averted her eyes from his. "Yeah, I'll tell you all about it.. I don't think you'll find it very interesting at all but.."
Tyler. I guess I should ask yours, too?
Eleanora.
Donât know if youâre my type of brunette.
I'm nobody's type.. not that it really matters. What's your name?
"Well," Caroline began, always eager to share a story, especially if it helped somebody else. "Bad, damaged boys are great for a time. They make things exciting and different, but it never ends well. You think you can change them, but you canât. You try anyway, because you think your love should be enough, right? And then when it doesnât work you end up getting hurt. It always ends in heartbreak, donât go there," she told her. Caroline knew she could only say so much, that even if Eleanora did listen to her words there would be parts of her that wouldnât believe what she said until she experienced it herself. That was how most things worked. "You and Matt! Heâs a great guy. You two would be so cute."Â
"But how are you so sure that it always ends that way? I mean... I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of broken people, but they're still different in their ways of communicating and all that.. I'm sure that.." her voice faded away. She wasn't really sure of anything that had to do with a relationship, and especially one where her significant other would be broken. She huffed and nibbled on her lower lip. "I'm sure of nothing.. never mind.." she grumbled. It was better to trust and believe someone that had been there. Nora wasn't interested in getting hurt, she'd had enough of that to last her five lifetimes. "I trust you. But.. I honestly don't know about Matt.. he's really nice and sweet to me and all.. he made me open up to him. I trust him.. I just don't trust myself. I'm not.. an emotional person.. you know?"
"O, but you definitely can, smarty-pants. Lifeâs boring when youâre only being careful. Although getting soaked to the bone doesnât really count as fun, I have to give you that point." He looked at the girl, who was checking out the place as well, and saw that she started shivering, trying to prevent her teeth from chattering. He turned away, suppressing the urge to try to get her warm again, suppressing the urge to take care of her. He remembered Stefan getting him like this, long ago, and making sure his brother wouldnât catch a cold, would end up warm in his bed. But that was in the past. He couldnât do that again, wouldnât do that again. He turned back to her. "Donât look at me like itâs my fault! I donât control the weather, you canât possibly blame me for everything that goes wrong in this city!" She was still shivering, and it only seemed to become worse. He pulled out his jacket, wrapping her in it. "But before someoneâs blaming me for letting you freeze to death⌠better get warm."
"You really like calling me smarty-pants, don't you? It's seriously beginning to tick me off. My name is Eleanora. You have the opporutnity to create so many personal nicknames, but you decide to call me what? Smarty-pants. Mother. Fucking. Smarty-pants!" she huffed, the cold affecting her and the amount of bicker she could take. She let out a long breath, trying to get her body to relax but the cold really managed to penetrate through her clothing and skin, going right into the bonemarrow. She stared at Damon as he turned away, hissing yet again. She turned her back to him in return and folded her arms on her chest. Why did she always let him get to her? It was obvious that he only really liked being around her because it was easy enough to stir up a reaction.. and it made her a little sad. She had brought this on herself. Just as she was about to walk away, she felt his hands on her, wrapping his warmer jacket around her. She froze for a moment, before she began to snuggle into the jacket and warm up. She turned to him and swallowed hard. "Thank you, Damon.."
When I need your opinion, Iâll be sure to ask for it. My brain cells and I were doing just fine without it.
You're funny, I like you already.
you don't know me | hayley and eleanora
The girl was nice, Hayley could see that. She didnât have the Dauntless attitude and donât-give-a-fuck air about her that Hayley had grown up perfecting. It wasnât what she had been expecting, but it kind of made her like her. Hayley was a protector, and it was the nice people that treated everyone how they should be treated that generally needed the most protection. Her instincts told her to watch out for her.Â
Hayleyâs eyes met Eleanoraâs and she swore she felt her heart stop for a moment as she confirmed her question. She was adopted. This was her sister. A lump formed in her throat, and she quickly looked away, forcing down the strong emotion that had ambushed her, clearing her throat before she spoke. Her eyes were still downcast as the words came from her mouth, âItâs just⌠Do you know anything about your birth parents?â Hayley glanced at her, noting the confusion on her face. She clearly hadnât expected the conversation to go in this direction.
The longer she looked at her, the more similarities between them she could see. Unlike Hayley, the girl had dark eyes, but they seemed familiar to Hayley anyway, like this wasnât the first time sheâd looked into them. They had the same cheekbones, the same chin, the same slant of the jaw. Things you could only notice once you really looked. âBecause when I was two years old my parents were killed. And my baby sister was adopted while I was sent to live with my Aunt in Abnegation.â
Her birth parents? Oh, man, this was serious, wasn't it? Her forehead creased in a small frown as she began to think. She had never looked into who her biological parents were, and now she was trying to put her finger on exactly why that was the case. She had always been okay with the idea of Jeanine being her mother, that's what she was used to. She had never really felt the need to know otherwise, she was happy the way she was.
Nora had heard those stories about adopted children growing up and finding their birth parents, only to be reassured that they weren't actually wanted by them. She knew that would hurt her. She gritted her teeth and shook her head. "No, I've never really felt the need to find anything out.. why are you asking me this?" She didn't know why, but she started to feel a little nervous and her hands began to sweat.
When Hayley told her about what had happened to her, the cogs in Nora's head began to spin. Okay, so what, did she think that Nora was her baby sister? Why were her parents killed? "And... I'm just going to go out on a limb here and guess that you think that I'm your.. baby sister?" If what Hayley was saying was true, there was definitely a chance that it was the truth, but Nora doubted it slightly. She knew that it was easily fixed, she could probably get a DNA test.. but still. This was mindblowing to her. She had gotten so used to being alone now.. but maybe she didn't have to be anymore.
Are you going to tattle? What are you, like twelve?
If you must know, I'm seventeen. I just thought you'd make smarter decisions than to drink away all your brain cells before you turn twenty.
