Summer of Love: A Mabekah Headcanon
Time Period: Post-S5 TVD/S1 TO
After Hayley & the brothers Mikaleson entrust the care of Baby Hope to Rebekah, Rebekah hot-foots it to Mystic Falls to ask Bonnie to place a protection (cloaking) spell over her niece so she can hide Hope in plain sight. Of course, Rebekah runs into her sort of ex-boyfriend, Matt, while she's in town, and of course, they are happy to see each other. Matt wants to know what she's doing with a baby, and Rebekah takes him into her confidence.
Once he knows the whole painful story, Matt asks Rebekah to move in with him (no, that's not a come-on! he insists). He believes she and the baby will be safer if someone is looking out for them at all times. He promises to protect Rebekah and Hope with his life. Rebekah teases Matt, saying she is a lot tougher than he is. He admits, yeah, she can kick his ass all right. "You might have to save me again," he jokes. They both laugh. Rebekah agrees to move into Casa Donovan.
Hope takes an immediate liking to Matt, because who wouldn't? She loves cuddling and playing with him. She has a habit of knocking over every tower of blocks that he has painstakingly constructed and giggling as he playfully calls her on it. "Hey, do you know how hard I worked on that?" he asks with a wry smile. He keeps building & rebuilding the towers, though, because he likes to see her happy. "Uncle Matt" has been known to 'baby talk' with Hope on more than one occasion.
Meanwhile, Matt and Rebekah's feelings resurface, more intense than ever. It isn't long before they are sharing a bed again. Matt struggles to find the right words to tell the pretty blonde original he's fallen hard for her, while Rebekah waits impatiently for him to make some kind of declaration of feelings. She's crazy about him too, but isn't about to be the first to admit it!
Matt, Rebekah, and Hope enjoy a sweet, mostly drama-free summer together, but come autumn, reality starts to catch up to them, and they're suddenly all in danger once again.

I missed him on my first watch up he has been growing on him every watch since.
I refuse to accept his end, he deserved so so much better.
I don't want to chew on/hurt him as much because canon was mean enough and instead he should get to hurt Klaus more.
Next; Matt
The heart of the gang, nice golden retriever boy who just wants to help protect his friends and can't because he's human and all the dangers are supernatural but he Tries.
Him crying when he finds Tyler's body still hurts my heart and did even before in started to enjoy him.
Also Canon should have given him Vicki back.
Last but not least; Elijah
Beloved blorbo, lives in my head 24-7.
He's a monster, manipulative bitch, sad puppy, needy repressed mess hidden behind a fancy suit and mask and bloody victim.
He's got the range; Failure older sibling(who i project onto), pretty victim and beast who needs to be tamed, a man so very smart and yet falls so easily, all with those with sad bambi eyes and that jawline
I love him.
