WOLFSTAR FANFICTION RECOMMENDATIONS
As I seem to struggle to find new fics in the genre of my liking, I decided to throw a little list for people like me.
These are long fanfictions with curated plotlines, deep character studies. I don’t even want to call them fanfictions, they’re higher works of literature.
Another thing to keep in mind is my taste. I’m a fan of Alternate Universe - Modern Settings, so you won’t find magic here (apart from the beautiful writing and gut-wrenching display of human emotions). I’m also really into emotional slow burns, so just be aware that these motifs are shared among the works in my list. Anyhow:
The Cadence of Part-Time Poets by motswolo.
This is THE magnum opus of our fandom. Set in the 70’s UK, young marauders going to a boarding school and putting together a rock band. It’s Remus’ POV and follows him in details from the age of 15. Incredible OCs, incredibly funny and emotionally paralyzing, well thought out structure of the plot. If the author changed the names of the characters, I’m 100% sure they would get an amazing book deal and become a bestseller.
Lover, You Should’ve Come Over by dykesiriusblack
If you haven’t listened to the title song by Jeff Buckley, go do it now. This fanfiction feels just like the song. The yearning, the will they won’t they aspect, Sirius’ inner battles of emotional inadequacies, commitment issues and so many other things just tied this work into an amazing ride of a read.
Just What The Doctor Ordered by WrappedUp
S tier funny, S tier Remus Lupin, S tier pining from Sirius. Has an age gap, so do with that information what you will.
Just read the summary on ao3, it’s put brilliantly, I can’t say anything else. I come to this fic once every 3-4 months.
Happy Birthday, You by WrappedUp
Yes, okay, I love WrappedUp. They have this sort of je ne sais quoi of mutual earning and mutual un acknowledgement of feelings that I really really love. Sirius and Remus have been CLOSE friends for decades and Sirius is just a bit daft and slow to realize that maybe his love is not really as platonic as he’d thought? Chef’s kiss.
Beneath a Big Blue Sky by eyra
Eyra’s gonna come up on this list a few times as well, but in this post I cherry picked this work. There’s something so soft and sweet about this one - Sirius and James get a seasonal one time gig helping Lupins on the farm. Posh city boy Sirius meeting raised-on-a-farm Remus.
Ten Reasons (To Go To Michigan) by greyeyedmonster18
I don’t see that fic often in recommendations and it honestly breaks my heart. I was quite desperate - I’d been browsing for decent fics for days and was almost hopeless when I came across this work. Made me pull an all nighter, yearning in this one just kept me on the edge of my seat (bed) and I even cried a bit.
I have many more recommendations, just need to properly research my reading history :)
