Elena Monzo’s artistic research focuses on the feminine world. Every iconographic feature is obsessively refined and taken from esthetic standards of commercial and pop culture. These stereotypes are repeated in the patina on the pages. Acrylic color, graphite, different textures and glitters transform gestures and actions in these photographs taken from tabloids and create an iconography of dynamism in constrast to the flattening caused by that commercial image. The women in Elena Monzo’s works do not belong to anybody but themeselves and express their complex identity in their actions that can come from dramatic loneliness or happy and carefree empathy.
