Charity work at an Elephant Sanctuary and Northern Thai Tribe

From 6 August - 26 August I will be travelling to Thailand to volunteer for the Futuresense Foundation. Whilst I am there I will be volunteering at an elephant sanctuary in Chiang Mai. Many elephants are abused and forced to entertain tourists from all over the world. I will be volunteering to help care for these abused elephants and give them a chance for rehabilitation. Over the last 30 years, Thailand has enjoyed considerable economic development. And yet, over 7 million Thais still live in poverty - most of them in rural areas where hardship can be extreme and opportunities are limited. In the remote hill-tribe communities of the north, few families can afford access to basic education, and fewer than half of their children ever finish their schooling. A lack of English language education hinders those who aspire to decent future employment, and a dearth of extra-curricular activities leaves schools struggling to engage and inspire their pupils. For them, the prospects of sharing in the success of the country’s booming prosperity are very bleak. And so, for the past year, the FutureSense Foundation has been working with 8 local schools in northern Thailand to help them improve the levels of education and motivation of their children. As such, my team and I will be volunteering for 10 days by building a library for a local school as well as teaching the children english.
