700-word concept statement
Following Assessment 1 I have chosen a research question about the relationship between binaries and done some initial research. In assessment 1, I had chosen two pairs of binaries: broken& whole, thrive& wane. After a brain storm, I selected a new binary inspired by my first project: ideals& reality.
Ideals are always full, bold, wonderful, distant, beautiful, and great.
But, Reality are always barren, boring, small, cautious, ugly, and cruel.
In life, there are always great differences between reality and ideal. From personal experience and point of view, when reality and ideals have a huge conflict and abrupt moment, people will have to or habitually choose to escape and conflict. Often, when alone, you have fantasies and autistic thinking, and to a certain extent, you may have hallucinations. On this point, I did some research and for this assessment to exaggerate the phenomenon to a certain extent, so I found a relatively official word to describe the emotion or phenomenon: hypochondria and paranoia. Hypochondria can be explained as abnormal chronic anxiety about one's health, and paranoia is a mental condition characterized by delusions of persecution, unwarranted jealousy, or exaggerated self-importance, typically worked into an organized system. It may be an aspect of chronic personality disorder, of drug abuse, or of a serious condition such as schizophrenia in which the person loses touch with reality. Generally speaking, most of the fantasies, whether caused by fantasy or illness, are mostly unexpected, strange, dreamy. And these illusions are due to the gap between reality and ideal. In the progress of researching, most of the information I can find is about hypochondria and persecution paranoia, but what I want to focus is subjective imagination which is a man longing for good things but under the pressure of reality, no action but just a whimsical idea, or even waiting for its success. What I want to express is a state of mind struggle and inaction, which is also a symptom of the majority of the younger generation in modern society.
Once when I was browsing the bookstore, I found an interesting book by accident: ‘I’m going to die’, which is a journal for documenting and dissecting the aches, pains, sores, twitches, itches, and otherwise physiologically irregular events that indicate in no uncertain terms that further tests need to be done. The book records plenty of things only hypochondriacs could understand. I browsed through the book and got a useful message: most people with hypochondriasis seem to be normal on the surface, and may even be quiet, but deep down they are crazy. So, I wandered to make a video which is almost stainable but in somehow could insinuate the complicated emotion.
For the description of reality, what come out of my mind firstly is a crowed and dark room. Like the renting house with small and closed spaces, especially when you are alone, your inner anxieties are reflected. People who often live in such a narrow place are always unsuccessful. This shows that the gap between reality and ideals has prompted them to have a great deal of vision and fantasy about the future. However, the psychological fatigue caused by the pressure of reality makes people think of escaping from reality. This state of not taking action but dreaming of a better world is an attitude that many people tend to have. What I wanted to do is to expose the phenomenon that an ideal life would not be given to those who would only wait but would not strive for it, even if it seemed close at hand.
For the expression of ideal, I choose sea. The sea is a broad impression in people's minds. For me, the sea represents the place of longing. It is endless, mysterious, unknown, with brave waves, beautiful blue and awesome breadth. In post-production, I raised the saturation level a little. Originally due to the photographic equipment is not professional enough so that produced some color gradient stripes, then it turned into a wonderful dream color. This adds to the beauty of the ideal and makes it more difficult to touch, as if in a dream.
The naked boy in the picture is trying to show a form of most people. From expecting to achieve the ideal, through the impingement, shattered, despair, until waiting to die and can only imagine the ideal world in mind.
About dubbing, I recorded two voices with almost no emotion. In order to show the effect of an out of voice, indifference but reveals the fact. I found a piece of music, and the protagonist's subtle psychological changes in direct proportion to play a supplementary role, to fascinating audiences.
In conclusion, This topic I want to express is a social phenomenon caused by the conflict between reality and ideal, more concerned about the psychology of people.
