I always feel like the best people can't stay long. The world can be such a cold, unforgiving and cruel place, and they get bashed about, taken advantage of. It's hard for them to exist so however long they stay, it's always a blessing. Because staying is the most beautiful act of defiance one can make. Still burning so bright and holding the last flickering candle in a black darkness is an immesurable burden and an unfathomably selfeless act. And I think that's the perfect cocktail of all the qualities people talk about when they talk about River. 29 years ago, we lost someone irreplaceable. I know I've said it a million times but that's just because I mean it with all my heart and soul, we did not deserve him. I have never loved anyone more. I have never missed anyone more.
