Today I was sent to pick up a print that had just been finished to bring it back to the studio. Grace was quite pleased with it and it really was quite beautiful. I. Ant wait to see it finally made into a garment. It's leading up to show time now so we are really starting to see the concepts and collection come together full circle. It's so exciting.

Today I stated off making a few fabric samples. And clerk g out the studio then I had to go and pick up some patterns and make a drop off afterwards. After I returned to the studio I marked out the patch lines for a pair of trousers. I didn't release just how hard it is to achieve high standard patch work. Working on the pattern for it will be interesting.

MAY 10

Today I finished cutting out the dress and sowing it up. After this Grace gave me some reset h images and brief overview of the concept after which she gave me some design work to do which included doing a rave of illustrations for different jersey top and print designs. This is such a joy to do after all that sowing and pattern cutting. I'm so glad to do some drawing again.

Today I arrived quite early and was sent to London trimmings to buy some fabric and supplies. After getting back to the studio I spent the rest of the afternoon cutting fabric and familiarising myself with the new fashion business intern. Learning as much as I can about basic fashion buisness in one sitting. Grace (my boss) has a film coming out on Friday and I am quite excited to see it. Seeing her work through different mediums of expression at industry level is so great for me as I tend to work the same way even now at university. It is something I certainly intend to continue with as I progress into industry myself. After I got back from London trimmings I went to Southbury for fabric drop off. After I returned to the studio we did some pattern alterations and that was it for the day

Manic day ! So the show is getting closer and closer and although the tension is evident in the studio Grace remains as calm and precise as ever. It's amazing how she is doing this. I would have surely lost my mind twice by now lol. We spent the day copying patterns. Being that we had about 15 of them to copy , cut out , cross check and package for the factory and it is of course a bank holiday so the LCF building was closed. We were all shaked up in the design studio without enough equipment or space. But it all came together between 9:00 am 8:30 pm so that was a great feeling. The three interns from Switzerland are returning tonight. So it was a day of high emotions but it ended very well. I now have to catch up on my presentation work due on Wednesday.

May24 The task for today will probably be the most challenging one yet. We have been given 4 differ t shirts with instructions on how to alter their patterns. There is so much to change. Pleates to remove, darts to eliminate, darts to add. Elongating, winding , creasing, slashing and spreading and even grading up - 2 sizes!! I have no idea how this is going to go. Of course when she asked if I could do theses things I said I was fairly confident. Which I am but it's still quite stressful. I am alright with everything except the grading up but I have no choice but to get it done in time for delivery.

Another factory visit today right after I made a shirt earlier in the day. It was interesting speaking to the lady in charge about how things work and the importance of designers to experience what really goes on before behind the scenes of the show. The truth is most fashion graduates leave uni as creative machines looking to start or runs buisness with little to no knowledge of basic business or fashion business. The manufacturing side is such a big thing that can make or break a fashion business and this is something that fashion students should not only engage in but I believe we should be set tasks prompting us to go as far as improving upon the current system. If we are encouraged to push boundaries why should it only apply to design. I'm not silly , I k ow there are basic fundamental pillars of a fashion business that shouldn't be changed or tampered with. But the reality of the fashion industry today is the problem of the production and shop floor sales timings in contrast to the show times. There are mega fashion businesses like Burberry and Tom Ford and others like Alexander Wang who have all tried alternative sales strategies. Tom Ford has completely quite and returned to the basic way of doing things but small and relevant businesses can not afford this experimentation. University is the place to explore this industry issue. Anyway , rant over. Interesting day. X

Very quiet day today. It's nice to have things slow down a little. It has given me time to think and I have been thinking a lot about my dissertation and final major project. I met somone ring his masters in fashion futures and we got taking about some of my ideas for my dissertation and he really help me out it all in perspective. I'm so excited to start now. It's not exactly your everyday topic and people tend to see machines as clothes when you mention fashion futures but there is so much more to it. And so much of it that can be quite easily applied to everyday fashion. Building these concepts it's just like building a brand identity. Packaging and integration into mundane life and activities to enhance them. The idea of fashion technology is simply not that ridiculous to me. More so because it really is the only plausible future for fashion as we have been doing pretty much the same things and applying the same principles for centuries.

The creative work continues this week as Grace asked me to do some painting for print designs. It's took quite a while but it was so much fun to do. The colours she asked me to work with are so vibrant. And the references as so so interesting to me. I'm so excited. I have been looking at her book collection and I didn't realise there is so much documented information on some of the topics here. I wish I could get a day to just go through her books and see. But because that is probably never going to happen I have taken note of some of the one that stand out to me and I intend to look them up.

Today I was given a dress to recreate its pattern and then make another one out of a different fabric. It took all day. I have completed the pattern and cut out half of the dress. Until tomorrow ....
