watch this youtube video to let yourself wallow, but also discuss and maybe even feel better
read this article
stick this quote up somewhere
read, hereās the rory gilmore reading challenge
on that note, read milk and honey, or if youāve already read it, give it a rereadĀ

write a small to do list, here are some nice little things you can do: wash your hair, do your nails, watch a movie, read a book, run a bath, organise your notes etc
hereās a nice little list of things you can do to pick yourself up in general
hope this is helpful!
Self-care pick-and-choose to-do list for bad days
This is just meant to be a list of suggestions for small things and slightly bigger things you can do to feel better on bad days. It is mostly based on personal experience for what helps me feel better.
I know a lot of them sound like chores - and some of them are - but doing them can still help me feel better, and they might work for you too.
Just doing enough to be able to tick off one or two of the things on this list can be a real achievement some days, so if you managed to do that I am super proud of you!
Try spending the day on the sofa instead of in bed.
Go to the toilet. Stop holding in your pee.
Brush your teeth orĀ rinse your mouth with mouthwash.
Take a quick shower.
Put on deodorant.
Put on clean clothes.
Drink a glass of juice.
Make a cup of tea.
Exfoliate.
Moisturize your skin.
Start watching that show that has been on your to-watch list since forever.
Write a page in a journal/diary.
Read a chapter in a book.
Read a fanfiction and leave a comment once you finished it.
Paint your finger nails. Paint your toe nails.
Send/answer an email you have been putting off.
Water your plants.
Buy a new plant.
Go grocery shopping.
Go for a walk.
Go for a jog.
Cook a hot meal (heat up pre-made meatballs, fry an egg, anything easy).
Try a new kind of food or drink.
Exercise for 20min (push ups, sit ups, jumping jacks, weight lifting).
Replace your dirty bedsheets with clean ones.
Vacuum/dust one of the rooms in your home.
Do the dishes.
Text one of your friends or message someone on tumblr.
Unplug your headphones and play some music, let it fill the room.
Dance. Badly. But dance.
Try to discover new songs you havenāt heard before.
Fill a bag or box with stuff/clothes you never use. Give it to a charity shop.
Write down two things you want to do tomorrow on a note and stick it to the fridge. Make yourself do those two things tomorrow.
How to study:
Before classes:
1 - Have a good night of sleep.Ā - At least eight hours.
2 - Take some coffee before going to school.Ā - Always have a snack in your bag. (Donāt study hungry)
3 - Workout. - I know itās going to be hard, since most of you have to wake up so early, but working out will help you to make the most out of your day.Ā
4 - Organize your bag the night before.Ā
5 - Go through what youāll be learning on the day. - This way you will be prepared and you can take notes about your doubts on the subjects.
6 - Listen to a badass playlist on the way to school/college. - It will boast your motivation.Ā
7 - Drink a lot of water.Ā - Thatās a tip to the whole day, actually. Always remember to take a bottle of water or tea to school/college.Ā
During class:
1 -Ā Sit in the front. - You will understand more your teacher and be away from the noises that can take away your attention.
2 - Ask questions. (No matter how dumb you think they are.) - Do not end a class with doubts. If you canāt ask during the class, take a note of your question on a sticker/notebook to ask later.
3 - Record the lectures.
4 - Put stickers on notes you will need to go over.Ā
5 - Listen to your teacher. - Be friendly with them. - Write down their names and contacts (number, emails, social media).
6 - Taking notes on class!
- Donāt worry about it being pretty, just make it organized and understandable so you can go over and make real notes later.Ā - Always start with the subject title and date.Ā - Differentiate by color your teacherās notes and yours. Put in red (or any other color you want, actually) the important things.
After class:
1 - Eat. - You need to replace energy!
2 - Review everything you learned on the day you learned it.
3 - Complete your homework on the day you get it.Ā - Or start it, if the task is too big.Ā - NEVER FALL BEHIND!
4 - Dress comfy.
5 - Have office hours in case you didnāt understand something.
6 - Watch documentaries on the topic you are currently studying.
7 - Study 30 minutes (50 minutes at the very most) and stop for 10 minutes.Ā - Leave your study place when itās break time.
8 - Turn off your phone or let it out of sight.Ā
9 - Test yourself/talk out loud. - Do practice questions!
10 - Taking notes after class!
-Ā Organize your notes by color. - Rewrite the informations with your own words. - When writing the new notes, make it pretty if you can. (I think it motivates me to study, looking at something well made) Otherwhise, be simple and objective, focus on the most important things. - Go over the class recording and read the books to compare with your class notes, to make sure you didnāt forget anything.

Broke af?
But still interested in feeding yourself? What if I told you that thereās a woman with a blog who had to feed both herself and her young sonā¦on 10 British pounds ($15/14 Euro) per week?
Let me tell you a thing.
This woman saved my life last year. Actually saved my life. I had a piggy bank full of change and thatās it. Many people in my fandom might remember that dark time as when I had to hock my writing skills in exchange for donations. I cried a lot then.Ā
This is real talk, people: I marked down exactly what I needed to buy, totaled it, counted out that exact change, and then went to three different stores to buy what I needed so I didnāt have to dump a load of change on just one person. I was already embarrassed, but to feel people staring? Utter shame suffused me. The reasons behind that are another post all together.Ā
AgirlcalledJack.com is run by a British woman who was on benefits for years. Things got desperate. She had to find a way to feed herself and her son using just the basics that could be found at the supermarket. But the recipes she came up with are amazing.Ā
You have to consider the differing costs of things between countries, but if you just have three ingredients in your cupboard, this woman will tell you what to do with it. Check what you already have. Chances are you have the basics of a filling meal already.Ā
Hereās her list of kitchen basics.Ā
Bake your own bread. Itās easier than you think.Ā Hereās a list of many recipes, each using some variation of just plain flour, yeast, some oil, maybe water or lemon juice. And kneading bread is therapeutic.Ā
Make your own pastaāgluten free.Ā
She gets it. She really does.Ā This is the article that started it all. Itās calledĀ āHunger Hurtsā.
She has vegan recipes.
A carrot, a can of kidney beans, and some cumin will get you a really filling soupā¦or throw in some flour for binding and youāve got yourself a burger.Ā
Donāt have an oven or the stove isnāt available? She covers that in her Microwave Cooking section.Ā
She has a book, but many recipes can be found on her blog for free. She prices her recipes down to the cent, and every year she participates in a project calledĀ āLiving Below the Lineā where she has to live on 1 BP per day of food for five days.Ā
Things improved for me a little, but her website is my go to. I learned how to bake bread (using my crockpot, but that was my own twist), and I have a little cart full of things that saved me back then, just in case I need them again. She gives you the tools to feed yourself, for very little money, and thatās a fabulous feeling.Ā
Tip: Whenever you have a little extra money, buy a 10 dollar/pound/euro giftcard from your discount grocer. Stash it. Thatās your super emergency money. Make sure they donāt charge by the month for lack of use, though.
I donāt care if it sounds like an advertisementāyou wonāt be buying anything from the site. What I DO care about is your mental, emotional, and physical healthāand dammit, foodās right in the center of that.Ā
If you donāt need this now, pass it on to someone who does. Pass it on anyway, because do you REALLY know which of the people in your life is in need? Which follower might be staring at their own piggy bank? Trust me: someone out there needs to see this.Ā
Reblogging for all the impoverished students. Jack is the breadline queen. And if you donāt need this - donate to your nearest food bank, stat.
Reblogging for students, working folks, and everyone whoās ever had to choose between essentials at the store because you can only afford milk OR bread, not both.
Fuck hunger. If anyone can find this usefulā¦Ā
Links are broken, hereās her website:Ā https://cookingonabootstrap.com/
Good recipes, good food, seriously low cost.
How to change your mood while honoring your feelings
So this is a pretty complicated subject, but here are the basics
Donāt judge yourself for having emotions. Remind yourself itās ok to feel whatever you are feeling. It doesnāt make you broken or a bad person, and there is nothing to be guilty or ashamed of. Try to just accept the emotion without being sad or angry that you are experiencing it
Assess the situation. The first step is to identify what emotions you are feeling. (This may be help if you are stuck). The second is to figure out what thoughts or events (if any) triggered it. For example you might feel angry because you were treated poorly, or sad because you were thinking about all the ways you believe you have failed. Worksheets such as this one may help you with this and the following steps
Make a plan to address any issues now, or if the emotions are too intense, make a point to come back to this later. For example, if you are stressed about the amount of work you have due, your action could be to make a plan for what work to do each day, email your professor about an extension, and to identify and challenge the assumption that turning in a project late makes you a failure. DBT & CBT tools can help you identify and work through the process of doing this
Do something sensory. Focusing on your senses can be a very effective way to get out of your head, and allow your emotions to fade naturally.Ā You could simply observe whatās around you (such as listing things you can see or hear), or you could create a pleasant experience by putting on a favorite song, using scents you enjoy, doing something with your hands, or some combination of these things.Ā
Remind yourself of things you have a positive association withĀ You could remind yourself of a favorite memory, think of something you are grateful for today, read a message from a loved one, look at a photograph that you like, or imagine you are in your favorite place. Make sure you arenāt doing this to force yourself not the feel the emotion, but rather focusing your attention on something pleasant and being open to however your emotions change. It is important you follow steps 2 & 3 if you choose to go this route. However, if you are facing a thought you have all the time and you have already worked through those steps in a similar situation you may be able to go straight here.
This is so helpful.
small things that will change your life -

looking after yourself by actually scheduling it into your day

Life Cleanse - What I Did (Updated 5/2/18)
Deep clean your room - Iām talking about stripping the bed, going through clothes, papers, and belongings and having no mercy. Sweeping and damp mopping the floors. Dusting surfaces. Finding new homes for those miscellaneous items that just sit there in the way.
Delete old contacts - I went from having maybe 30-40 contacts to 14. In other words, delete contacts you havenāt messaged or called in the last two weeks to a month (if so long). If they text you donāt be afraid or feel guilty for asking who it is.
Go through your music library - Play all your songs and if you skip a song delete it without hesitation. The next time you hit shuffle on your playlist you wonāt even notice itās gone. What if you get in the mood for the song? Thatās what YouTube is for my friend⦠or just add the song back onto your phone.
Go through clothes - That dress you havenāt worn once in the past year- donate/toss it. The shirt you swear fits if you donāt raise your arms- get rid of it. Those worn out clothes- dump them. *Of course there can be exceptions but within reason.
Journal/Do a brain dump - Write down any thoughts to cleanse your mind. Any ideas you might have. Good things that happened that day. Bad things that happened. Things youāre grateful for. It helps so much. Try it for at least three days straight and youāll notice how much better you feel. Problems might not disappear completely but itāll give you the strength to get through another day.
Donāt try to force things to work out - Itās so hard and it can be upsetting when things donāt, but sometimes the best thing you can do for you is accept the way (some)things are.
Donāt be hard on yourself for messing up - Ā It can be easy to physically or mentally punish yourself for making a mistake no matter how big or small, but Iāve learned that doing things like starving yourself, beating yourself Ā up (literally), or just scolding yourself repeatedly doesnāt improve the situation and it doesnāt improve yourself.
Cut toxic people off - Remove them from your life physically (which sometimes takes time). Unfriend them from social media. Remove prominent traces of them from your life. Itās like suddenly a weight comes off of your shoulders.
Practice self love - Ā I write/say this so often and sometimes I feel like itās so harThe same do sometimes but itās not. Iām talking about taking a break when you need to. Drinking water. Moisturising your skin. Getting enough sleep. Saying no. Itās the little things like that count as self love.
Donāt run away from your problems - Itās tempting and hard but itās important to face any problems youāre facing. No one is saying you have to be strong 24/7, only that you should try.
Delete old files - Go through you computer, tablet, phone, USB drive etc. Delete old unimportant documents, old photos, music, apps and more.
Clean up your daily diet - Often times youāll have a goal for what you want your daily diet to look like but you fall off the wagon once and end up staying off. So when you notice youāve been drinking more soda/juice, swap your next beverage for some water. Cut down your portions or eat more often if you need to instead of starving yourself. Hopefully, you get the idea.
Reassess your goals/habits - Itās a necessary evil. Maybe you need to scratch a previous goal and pursue a new one or add a few extra steps so you reach it. The same thing goes for your habits. Maybe you need to exercise daily, or you need to break the habit of staying up on your phone instead of going to bed. Write them down and brainstorm how to build/break that habit.
7/8/18 (1/18, 2/18, 6/18) and iām back!! itās been so long since i last posted here on my studyblr, probably like 2 years?? i started this blog when i was an incoming freshman and now iām a junior! i hope i can get back into the swing of posting and immersing myself back into the community! itās an exciting time!
Here are some of my favorite apps I use for studying and productivity and they have been lifesavers for me. Many of these apps are common or self-explanatory but I added them to the list anyways. Also please reblog or comment with some of your favorite study apps to help fellow studyblrs!
Khan Academy- This is an amazing way to learn concepts for almost all subjects. Their videos explains topics in detail and are easy to comprehend. They also have practice questions that are great for testing yourself, especially in math. Their SAT and other standardized testing practice is extremely useful.
Quizlet- Quizlet is not your average flashcard app. You can create your own sets or find sets that others have already made. There are many different modes for studying such as writing, dictation, matching, testing, games, etc. Itās UI also makes it super simple to use.
Socratic- Socratic allows you to scan text on paper using the camera, type in information, or type in math problems so that it can scan the internet for all possible related content. It will quickly bring up many different sources online and perform a Google Search.
GoodNotes- I use this app on my iPad to take handwritten notes with my Apple Pencil. Itās really easy to take notes on here with many different paper templates. Their zoom window feature also makes it simple to write legibly. GoodNotes allows you to convert text to handwriting and easily write on other documents. One feature that it does not have but itās competitor Notability does is the ability to audio record with the notes but you can still record at the same time with the iOS built in voice memos or another recording app.
Forest- Forest is a focus timer app where you plant a ātreeā for a set amount of time to stay focused and cannot leave the app. If you do, your tree will be killed symbolizing that you didnāt finish the session. Earn coins for each tree that you plant and you can spend those coins to plant a real tree somewhere in the world! You can also do group room session where you do the same and plant a tree with friends. (If you arenāt ready to spend for the app Flora is a similar app although I havenāt tried it so Iām not sure what itās like)
Slader- Slader provides detailed answers for many textbook questions. Itās written by people who submit answers so they may not always be right but usually are. Math related problems have detailed step-by-step solutions which are very helpful.
Wolfram Alpha- This app is great to use for high level studies. It helps you solve complex mathematical problems or find detailed information in STEM topics. It has an abundance of content as is definitely worth paying for.
LitCharts- I havenāt used LitCharts that much yet but itās much like Sparknotes with detailed chapter summaries, character descriptions, quote analysis, and more. I personally like this app more than Sparknotes because it doesnāt have many distracting apps.
Todoist- Todoist is great for keeping track of tasks and organizing them in categories. They email you with your tasks everyday to stay on track and keep track of daily completed streaks. Sadly most of its other features can only be used by paying for their premium subscription such as notifications or completed tasks.
Desmos- This graphing calculator is beneficial for me when I forget my calculator at home. You can easily type in an equation and it will be graphed immediately. Clicking on the points will allow you to find the coordinates. It can sometimes be difficult to graph more complicated equations but overall a great app.
Google Calendar- Iāve been using Google Calendar to plan out my daily schedules for many years. Itās easy to add an event and can invite others by email to it. The app allows you to add details like locations and specific times so it can notify you when needed. I also add other calendars to my own such as my volleyball teamās schedule and biology teacherās class schedule. Basically almost all of Googleās productivity apps are really beneficial.
Varsity Tutors- Varsity Tutors has apps specific to different AP subjects and standardized tests. Each has various question regarding all aspects of the tests. They also have a couple diagnostics test, full length tests, and flashcards with questions.
Motivate- Finding inspiration and motivation can be tough but this app has uplifting motivational videos and speeches to get you started. They constantly upload new videos often as well.
Photomath- This app allows you to take a picture of any math problem and it will provide you with the solution. Not only that but it will also provide a step-by-step process as to how to get the solution. Itās great to use when you donāt understand how to solve a problem or to find out where you went wrong.
How to Handle Having TOO MUCH To Do
So letās say youāre in the same boat I am (this is a running theme, have you noticed?) and youāve just got, like, SO MUCH STUFF that HAS to get done YESTERDAY or you will DIE (or fail/get fired/mope). Everything needs to be done yesterday, youāre sick, and for whatever reason you are focusing on the least important stuff first. What to do!
Take a deep breath, because this is a boot camp in prioritization.
Make a 3 by 4 grid. Make it pretty big. The line above your top row goes like this: Due YESTERDAY - due TOMORROW - due LATER. Along the side, write: Takes 5 min - Takes 30 min - Takes hours - Takes DAYS.
Divide ALL your tasks into one of these squares, based on how much work you still have to do. A thank you note for a present you received two weeks ago? That takes 5 minutes and was due YESTERDAY. Put it in that square. A five page paper thatās due tomorrow? That takes an hour/hours, place it appropriately. Tomorrowās speech you just need to rehearse? Half an hour, due TOMORROW. Do the same for ALL of your tasks
Your priority goes like this:
5 minutes due YESTERDAY
5 minutes due TOMORROW
Half-hour due YESTERDAY
Half-hour due TOMORROW
Hours due YESTERDAY
Hours due TOMORROW
5 minutes due LATER
Half-hour due LATER
Hours due LATER
DAYS due YESTERDAY
DAYS due TOMORROW
DAYS due LATER
At this point you just go down the list in each section. If something feels especially urgent, for whatever reason - a certain professor is hounding you, youāre especially worried about that speech, whatever - you can bump that up to the top of the entire list. However, going through the list like this is what I find most efficient.
Some people do like to save the 5 minute tasks for kind of a break between longer-running tasks. If thatās what you want to try, go for it! Youāre the one studying here.
So thatās how to prioritize. Now, how to actually do shit? Thatās where the 20/10 method comes in. Itās simple: do stuff like a stuff-doing FIEND for 20 minutes, then take a ten minute break and do whatever you want. Repeat ad infinitum. Itās how Iāve gotten through my to do list, concussed and everything.
Youāve got this. Get a drink and start - we can do our stuff together!
WOAH THIS SOUNDS HELPFUL. IāM GOING TO TRY THIS IMMEDIATELY. Also, I made a chart for myself, but if anyone else wants it for reference (or if this is wrong and I misread you can tell me) here it is:
Going to try this.
You are doing youāre best. Everything will be okay :))
