So umm… I put a lot of my thoughts and emotions into this drawing, but I also wanted to try and explain them with words.

I’ve rewatched The Pitt three times (once with Dr. Mike’s commentary :P). And today I listened to the Radiolab podcast episode Playing God, which talked about bioethics and triage during mass casualty events. All of that somehow blended together, and at some point it turned into inspiration for this piece.

I chose Whitaker because he look kinda uh..ethereal?. I think patients often see doctors as something close to divine — as if they’re supposed to heal people in a miraculous way. And I just wanted to… remind people? that doctors are human too, doing their jobs to the best of their ability

You can see some of Whitaker’s “insides,” which is meant to show that he’s the same as anyone else (minus the lungs and a few other things I didn’t draw because I didn’t like how they looked, lol).

The heart removed from his body symbolizes how doctors sometimes have to detach from their emotions — either to help more people or simply to survive without losing their minds. But even then, they’re still human.

So please don’t break their noses because you waited 12 hours in the ER, I’m afraid that part isn’t really up to them :P
