âOh no, no. I didnât mean to make it sound that way. I donât think youâll be here if you didnât work as hard too.â She knew he meant no harm, but she couldnât help but nitpick every word that slipped through his lips. âI guess so, yeah. I mean, it pays well. Weâve moved to Quincy since, believe me when I tell you how happy Darren was when he heard that he was finally getting his own room at 21.â It wasnât exactly a lie, but it wasnât the complete truth either. A giggle escaped her lips at his question, the tension that took over her body starting to loosen up. âOf course not. If anything, they should be jealous of me for being the one who showered you with undivided attention ever since we were their age.â She gave an honest attempt to lighten the situation, but the wrong words seemed to keep taking over. Though she quietly hoped that he didnât catch her mistake, her first impulse was to reach towards the other side of the table for his arm, shaking her head apologetically. âOh gosh, t-that was meant to be a joke, Iâm sorry.â She mustered up the courage to look him in the eyes, softening her features as she gushed out the only excuse that came to mind, âI meant to call you, Eli.â
â no, itâs fine i get it. i was just messing with you belle, relax. â he reassures her with a soft laugh, maybe getting straight into teasing her wasnât a great idea. it seemed like they were both a little nervous and on edge about the whole thing, it felt like walking on eggshells as if not to ruin this further and make it all even more awkward. that was the last thing he wanted, he felt as if everything had to go smoothly this one time so they could remember what they were missing out on and start being around each other more often. hearing about their improved situation brought a genuine smile to his lips, he knew what those apartments were like. though he was lucky enough to have his older sisters move out years ago, after they moved out the apartment didnât feel too bad for just him and his mother. â wow, quincy huh? thatâs amazing. iâm happy for you. you guys deserve nothing but the best. â he was happy to hear she was doing well at work or at least it seemed like it. â in that case they should be jealous of me for getting so much attention, i think. â he laughed, not even making anything out of it until chrysan reached for his arm, laughter subsiding at her last statement, then looked away after a few seconds of eye contact. â so why didnât you? â

His words have never failed to make her smile, and despite the elephant in the room that theyâve yet to address, being in his presence brought back a nostalgic warmth that she had been craving for all these years. âA celebrity?â she echoed, raising an eyebrow. âThatâs impressive. Really impressive. Iâm glad to hear that youâre doing fine.â From his words, she realised that he had full grasp of the one thing Chrysan never did: he was content. He seemed to be happy. The last thing she wanted to do was pull another pity party; she figured that Eli probably had carried enough of her burden in the past. He deserved to stay as untroubled as he made his life sound. âIâm still doing the whole software engineering thing. I guess thatâs what you do when youâre a computer science major, right? But itâs doing alright, as long as it keeps me going.â She didnât want to mention anything about teaching classes at the dance studio, much less her plans to resign from the firm â at least not yet. It felt unusual keeping these things from Eli out of all people. Pulling a facade that she often maintained in front of strangers, but he wasnât just anyone. He was her best friend. She wasnât supposed to hold back this way. Easing herself into pulling a playful joke to distract herself, although her voice remained restrained as she spoke, âSo a celebrity, huh? Should I be prepared for a six-year-old to suddenly walk up to you and ask for a picture in the midst of this?â
he nods, proudly. even if the celebrity part was mostly a joke, he really was doing fine. despite missing things from the past, like their friendship for instance, eli was truly doing good. something he never thought would become a reality. he tucks his hand under his chin, resting his head on it as he listened attentively. maybe he was exaggerating, but he could swear this is the most heâs heard from her in a while and it makes him happy. glad, even. â well, yes i suppose. iâm not the smart one clearly. but it keeps you going? thatâs good, right? â he asks, hoping the answer is a positive one, though heâs not sure if itâll be completely honest considering their friendship is not what it was before. he wouldnât hold it against her, figuring theyâd slowly have to work their way back to that place. he laughs at her joke, making him feel a bit more uncomfortable with the whole situation. he shrugs, â perhaps. try not to get too jealous of the attention, yes? â

    as  salem  considered  the  otherâs  words,  his  nose  immediately  scrunched  at  the  idea  of  fluffy  slime  and  the  texture  that  it  would  emulate.  definitely  not  his  idea  of  fun,  but  itâs  whatever.  â  are  you  sure  it  isnât  just  expired  or  toxic  ??  i  donât  think  slime  should  ever  be  that  of  a  fuzzy  consistency.  â  salem  replied,  tone  laced  in  wariness  despite  the  evident  smile  on  the  other  manâs  face.  â  i  canât  say  iâve  ever  played  with  slime  before  â  the  appeal  didnât  really  strike  me.  i  know  thereâs  some  niche  group  on  youtube  for  it.   but  as  far  as  gen  z  goes,  i  canât  speak  for  them  considering  iâve  never  looked  at  a  cleaning  product  and  wondered  what  it  would  be  like  to  eat  it.  so  looks  like  we  both  have  some  bit  of  sanity  still  in  us.
â yes i am one hundred percent sure. it is purposely that way. itâs a whole thing, i swear. iâll get you some. it feels so nice. â heâs not sure at what point he became so enthusiastic about slime, but here he was. explaining the characteristics of fluffy slime. â never? not even with the green nickelodeon slime? â the slime trend nowadays was definitely quite different from the one he remembered as a kid, but still, in his mind every 90âČs kid wanted to be showered in the green slime. â yes, slime is so popular on youtube, i think mostly for the asmr community and kids videos-- which i do, thatâs why i even got it in the first place. yeah, looks like it. but i donât know, millennials did some stupid shit too, do you remember the cinnamon challenge?âÂ

âPart of me is like super concerned for you butâŠanother part of me kinda gets it. I meanâŠitâd be like marshmallow fluff, right? And that stuff is delicious!â
â yes exactly! it even smells like marshmallow too, thatâs why itâs so tempting. but you donât have to be concerned for me, iâm not stupid enough to actually eat it. â
salemhwangâ:
    â  since  when  did  slime  become  fluffy  ??  i  thought  the  whole  point  was  that  it  was  gross.  â  salem  asked  with  knitted  eyebrows.  â  unless  you  want  to  make  yourself  sick  by  eating  slime  then  iâd  recommend  not  to.  doesnât  that  stuff  smell  like  shit  any  way  ??  so  i  donât  see  the  appeal  of  it  unless  itâs  like  the  forbidden  food  tide  pod  ordeal.  â
â iâm not sure, wouldnât be able to tell you the exact moment it became fluffy but it did. consider it a slime subgenre. â he joked, his lips turning into a smile. eli was probably more up to date with current toys than most guys his age. but that was thanks to his job. â i donât know what type of slime youâre used to, but they usually smell nice. like, fruits and other stuff. this one in particular smelled like marshmallow. see, now the tide pod thing i never got. like, nothing about it makes it appealing enough to try and eat it. i just feel itâd be similar to when you accidentally get soap or shampoo in your mouth. â
clementiinefraserâ:
âit looks like fluffy pancakes, i know! or like egg whites that were whipped to the point they look like clouds!â minnie commented. âi really want to eat it too! but i would advise against it! whatâs in there? shaving cream, clay and laundry detergent? not the most delicious, unfortunately.â
â god, yes. they definitely look like clouds! â he agrees, a bit eagerly. heâs happy that someone else agrees with him. â yeah, i know. imagine being that guy that ends up in the hopistal, intoxicated because you decided to eat slime. â
wednesdayxdavenportâ:
âsorry what? slimeâs still a thing? i thought that whole trend died out in 2015. iâm no doctor but maybe the idea of some sort of âforbiddenâ jello is tempting, fuck if I know.â the blonde shrugged, âdid it smell of fruits or anything,-have any glitter?â
â ...yeah. youâll be surprised how many things are still a thing even after trends die down. kids love slime, i donât see it going away any time soon. yeah, that whole forbidden food thing makes sense. â he nodded at her last question, â yeah it smelled like marshmellow, not a fruit but it smelled nice. didnât have any glitter, was just really fluffy. â
lyydiaaâ:
âIf having a child taught me anything, itâs that adults are children at heart. My son nearly convinced me to eat his âhamburger.â I knew it was playdough but I wanted to eat it. If there is an explanation, scientifically speaking, Iâd love to know as well.â
â okay but playdough is another one of those frobidden foods. it smells so good and the texture is also really nice. i donât blame you for wanting to eat your sonâs hamburger. i wonder why i never thought about eating it when i was an actual child, but now that iâm supposedly an adult itâs all i think about when i play with them. â
chrysanchoâ:
It took her so much courage to finally respond to Eliâs invitation after the number of unsent texts she had drafted to him, let alone show up to a dinner with only the two of them present. Her mind was in a constant state of limbo, contemplating her decision up until minutes prior to their meeting. It wasnât that she didnât want to see him: Chrysan simply wasnât prepared for confrontation, nor did she have the heart to watch Eli question all the time they lost. Her fingers drummed the surface of the table, eyes darting down to avoid his as she cleared her throat to respond. âYeah, the owners seem to be the same ones as before. So fingers crossed,â she agreed, forcing out a soft chuckle. âI, uh, thanks. For inviting me here.â There was a thickness in her throat, but she continued to fight it away as she painted a close-lipped smile across her face. âHow have you been? I guess itâs been a while since we last met, just the two of us. Knowing you, Iâm sure youâve been up to quite a lot.â
his eyes move down to where her fingers are tapping, then a million things run through his head. was he making her uncomfortable? he feared maybe theyâve reached a point in their friendship where it just came to its natural end. or maybe heâs just overthinking things now. â oh, well in that case i donât see why it should be any different. â he agreed, â yes, of course. iâve been meaning to come here for a while now, i thought youâd be the perfect company. â his words werenât all that true, he simply wanted an excuse to meet up with her and this one seemed like a good enough one. â uh, thanks for accepting. â eli adds, a bit hesitant. it felt weird being so proper around her, when theyâve known each other for years. he lets out a small laugh at her last remark. â yeah, kind of. iâve been good. iâm a bit of a celebrity now. â he jokes, but just saying that felt wrong so he immediately adds, â iâm kidding. but i kinda do videos now, for youtube. iâm the guy doing those annoying unboxings. except my audience is mostly...like, six year olds. what about you? iâm sure youâve been working hard.â
@chrysanchoâ
for some reason eli thought that inviting chrysan for dinner was a good idea. yet itâs been about twenty minutes since they arrived and got seated at the restaurant and theyâve barely exchanged any words. he was actually surprised she even accepted his invitation in the first place, he always assumed she was busy with work and whatnot and that was probably the reason why they didnât hang out together much anymore. or at all. this used to be their favorite restaurant when they were younger, except it appearently went through some type of remodelation and looked completely different than what he remembered. he took a sip of his lemonade as he looked around the place, then awkwardly looked across the table setting his sight on the girl in front of him. a small, friendly smile took place on his lips. â well, i hope the food is still the same, at least. â
@vestalandingâ
â i got this new fluffy slime in the mail today and i was playing around with it for a little, but i couldnât stop thinking about just biting into it. like there was something about the texture, i donât know, that was really tempting. is there like, a scientific explanation to this or am i just five years old? â
