Waiting for dawn
I'm a simple being. I see my favourite character in nice lighting, and I want to draw it. The temperature's gone down to tolerable again, and I used the opportunity to ease back into drawing.
Based on that one Hijikata shot from the Reimeiroku musical trailer.

ikoku nikki is being published in english!!!
inklore finally dropped their official statement. i still can’t believe this, i’m seriously emotional. after so many years waiting and waiting, i can finally hold the english version of ikoku nikki on my hands!!!!!!! this is like a dream come true!!
regarding inklore, it was a huge surprise that i was most definitely not expecting it. i don’t own anything by them and know little about the publisher itself, but i truly hope they will give justice to ikokki and make the best edition they can make. yamashita tomoko deserves the best, always and forever 💛💛💛
sitara
I watched the first 2 episodes with very low expectations tbh but it was such a good surprise.
The representation of that historical period of the Islamic civilisation has been all in all accurate. There was no exaggeration, no unnecessary glazing either, or unnecessary pandering to a negative modern stereotyped overgeneralised perspective of Muslims.
It is simple representation yes, because the focus as far as I am aware with the following events going forward would be on the Mongols’ inner politics (and the main character is based on a real historical figure who lived among them), but these two episodes alone have given a fair picture of what that part of the Muslim world has been going through at the time.
It is refreshing.
————-
On that note, (some random facts) that period before, during and after the Mongol invasion of the Muslim world, is one of the most critical periods in Islamic history. Muslims at the time have been going through some serious political battles, and were becoming weak, as each region was ruled by someone different, and there was considerable infighting among the regions. And in addition to the Mongols, they were weakened by repeated attacks from the Crusaders. Yet even with such instability, it was one of the most socially, religiously, and scientifically progressive periods. Despite their differences, they would scientifically engage in debates through writing books upon books, they were thirsty for knowledge, and they won’t let their differences stop them from assisting each other even if they were weak.
So yeah that era was very interesting because of how diverse the outcomes for many parts of the Muslim world were. Though undeniably, it was filled with many tragedies, very grave ones. Loss of vast amounts of knowledge. Many many innocent people were killed, among them many scientists who were crucial in shaping that era.
But interestingly, many of the slaves that were taken during previous periods, were among the ones to save the Islamic world from further destruction, and they would rise as rulers who would further change the shape of that part of the world.
