forgot to upload this to tumblr—a paint-sketch of Hephaistion from Dancing with the Lion by @jeannereames, based on the final scene in Rise! Was such a joy to read these books, so many neat historical details and depth given to the characters 🥰

#alexander the great #hephaistion #dancing with the lion #alexander and hephaistion were both wonderful and felt like proper boys/young men with their own faults and graces #similarly the nuances given to myrtale/olympias and philip was so wonderful #was so cool to see cleopatra in the limelight! + thessalonike cynane etc #philip was my breakout star of rise i was feeling the paternal emotional rollercoaster #much more to say but really hoping future books will find their way to publication!#i don't think i've seen a lot of alexander fiction cover the immediate aftermath of his accession + balkan campaigns... maybe...

Started re-reading The Golden Mean recently since I heard it’s getting a Netflix adaption (huuuhhh?!) some sketches along the way

It’s been 10+ years but... I did always remember enjoying this portrayal of kid Alexander as someone quite off-putting compared to most of his literary counterparts

I use exclusively Procreate—default HB pencil for lineart (classic library -> sketching). Another brush I really like for lines is Gesinski Ink (classic -> inking) although I’m assuming it’s the former you’re looking for. With HB pencil specifically I get most of my line variation from tilt rather than pressure. This encourages me to loosen up strokes and it’s what I love most about it 😤

Painting brushes are a lot less consistent but I’m very fond of Tuhis’ set, Airi Pan’s oil brush, and Watercolor Maxpack. I also have a bajillion color jitter variants of random textured brushes that catch my eye, used moreso for fun than function haha
