okay let’s just break this down in the most unorganized way.

leo was 8 when his mom died and kids that age are still learning how to be respectful and understand the world around them ESPECIALLY BOYS. and when he lost her he was jumping from different abusive households that didn’t spare a glance at him and teach him proper things— how to be respectful (which i think we could argue he ACTUALLY IS. he’s just very vocal about his attraction in a way he believes is right but he’s YOUNG. YOUNG.)

and if you compare him to percy, which people do— percy grew up with sally who was always present and their cultures are so different as well. leo didn’t have the guidance like he did which people seem to forget???

also, in toa, reyna literally tells leo he needs to learn how to be more respectful and he agrees because he doesn’t know the difference between being funny and overtstepping which is normal for a teenager.

look leo is still learning because he has such low self-esteem that he believes being funny and putting himself out there will shield himself from peoples true opinions. he pretends the girls like him back because he knows deep down they don’t.

idk, like i know being a teenage boy doesn’t excuse his persistence, but he DOES learn from it and grow because just completely ignore that

guys i don’t think jason knew piper liked girls as well. it’s never implied in toa and even piper is hesitant to tell apollo. ehich yes to be fair piper isnt close with apollo at all but i don’t even think she fully understood herself until the end of toa either… i strongly believe jason died unaware of pipers attraction

this is by far one of my favorite scenes in all of heroes of olympus.

it shows percy’s loyal attribute and jason determination to fight for whats right. that he doesn’t care about what happens to him and percy is the exact same way.

it makes me sad that jason was welcomed at camp half blood the same way percy was when he first arrived and percy was welcomed at camp jupiter the same way jason probably was when he first arrived

jason was an outcast to camp half blood. a step down from percy

percy had been unwelcomed for being different from demigods: a forbidden child. he was an outcast for a while

percy was welcomed to camp jupiter for being a son of neptune, for being put on a pedestal

jason, being the son of jupiter, was most likely put on the same pedestal. he was a child of the king of gods.

Leo himself wanted to cry like a Valdezinator, but he kept his cool. “Hey, big guy, I’m counting on you…”

“Oh, Leo…” She (Hazel) really did burst into tears then. She grabbed him and hugged him, which was sweet until Frank started crying too and wrapped them both in his arms.

Leo nodded gravely. “Don’t break the vial of deadly poison. Man, I’m glad you said that. Never would have occurred to me.”

“Shut up, Valdez.” Frank gave him a bear hug. “And be careful.”

their dynamic is teasing, still walking on eggshells but its become easier. and when frank realized leo would sacrifice himself for his friends, the respect was earned.

and leo knowing frank held his end of the plan, he wasn’t sure how to thank him, but his sarcasm was lighter and grew to understand frank more.
