Reflecting on my Reflection

Where will you adjust your Content Learning Reflection to strengthen your point?

When I began drafting my Reflection, I jotted down a list of examples from my pieces of writing for this course that reflects what each question was asking for. I then wrote out the draft into the answer/"essay" format. During my revision, I have been working through my draft, editing for grammar and spelling. More importantly, I have been looking for ways to add to my examples, making them more specific or more descriptive.

Learning Experience

What do you like most about your learning?

I liked that I got to experience a different form of writing. I probably wouldn't have taken the plunge into social media and posting to blogs if it weren't for this class. Now that I'm posting regularly, I've gotten over my worries and fears about posting online and now I'm posting more frequently in other places! Plus, now, I'm more knowledgeable in areas around the web! So I'm able to take my experiences here and translate them into other areas in my life!

I felt the same way for a long time about posting on social media. This class has really pushed me into posting regularly, and I've enjoyed it. For years, I've thought about creating a book-related Instagram account or a book blog, but I always put it off because I didn't really know how to get started. After being in this class, I feel much more confident in making this happen.

What do you like most about your learning?

The thing I like most about learning is actually being able to apply it to the real world because it makes that knowledge more valuable. I personally feel that some college classes do not specifically relate to what your future career is, but this course is different. I will be able to apply the things I have learned in this class to my future career and everyday life as web writing is something we experience on a day to day basis.

I felt the same way about this course. I think it is really interesting how we got to look at the many different aspects of communicating on the internet, especially in ways that really didn't exist 10-15 years ago like they do today in content creation.

What do you like most about your learning?

Something I've enjoyed in particular about this course is that everything applies to real-world and professional applications, Especially with career paths that most definitely did not exist 15 years ago like content creation. The data analysis project really put that into a really good perspective of what it takes in order to regularly create content and ways to view if your content is working well or what needs to be adjusted in order to have more people view it and interact with it.

What are you most proud of with your writing process?

In my writing process, I’m most proud of my revision process. Even in the times when I have read back my work after submitting or uploading it and seeing errors in my writing, I am still proud of the times when I went back and read through some of  my larger assignments, like my data analysis project in my final draft where I spent a lot of time reading and rereading the different sections and actively thinking about what I could add or take away or more somewhere else in order to improve the flow of my information

Where will you adjust your Content Learning Reflection to strengthen your point?

If at all possible, I would to be able to point towards direct examples in order to support my claims. I don’t know if this is the intended purpose of the Content Learning Reflection, but I'm thinking about this assignment as though I’m in a job interview and something that I have learned in the few job interviews that I’ve had is that when you answer a question a specific example is more preferable to a vague one.

What assignment questions do you have that will help you complete the assignment successfully?

Hi Dr. P, for the content learning assignment, I noticed that we need to answer several questions in order to complete it. My main question is, should I have this paper organized in an essay structure or in the document that I submit can I have it organized as the question and then my response?

My favorite part about the last weeks of the semester is coming home for either Thanksgiving break or winter break and decorating the house. On our Christmas tree, I usually put my grandmum's ornaments on the tree because they are so pretty. Something else I love about the end of the semester is getting to read for fun and complete my yearly reading goal without having to worry about having to complete coursework

Share a section of your Design Project content. What is the work of this sample? How can we help you revise? 

As you can see, these are my anger posts from the fans of the show (which takes inspiration from Outer Banks). I'm going back and forth because I got feedback that I didn't have hashtags and if that was an intentional design choice, which admittedly, it was not. But it poses an interesting question, do these anger posts from the fans need hashtags? Would fans naturally include hashtags in a post like this? If you have any feedback on this, please let me know! ☺️

Dr. P actually gave me feedback on this. All of the posts need to have hashtags related to Favorite Show in order for all members of the audience to find the posts. Though show fans might already be tuned into the news and more casual viewers may not be aware of where to look.

Share an example of your favorite television show or movie - how does that show/movie help you work through this project and understand angry fandom?

Prodigal Son is another one of my favorite tv shows, which helped me understand angry fandom for the current project. It was initially about Malcolm Bright using the skills he learned from his father, a notorious serial killer, to catch criminals and put them behind bars. This premise was compelling, as it showcased Malcolm’s struggle to use his dark knowledge for good, rather than succumbing to it.

However, the show’s direction took a surprising turn when both Malcolm and his sister, Ainsley, ended up committing murder. This drastic change in character development was unexpected and left many fans feeling disillusioned. It shifted the narrative from a story of redemption and justice to one where the characters mirrored the very darkness they were fighting against.

This experience helped me understand the anger and frustration that can arise in fandoms when beloved characters take such unexpected paths. It’s a testament to how deeply we connect with these stories and characters, and how invested we become in their journeys.

I loved this show, too! I thought it was such an interesting concept. The way that it ended, with everything up in the air and so many questions unanswered, I can see how the audience felt disillusioned.

This looks great! I think the one improvement that you could make to the announcement would be to include more hashtags in relation to the show. The goal for using more hashtags would be to make sure that all of the fans of the show are aware of the cancellation.

Share an example of your favorite television show or movie - how does that show/movie help you work through this project and understand angry fandom?

I actually chose to inspire my design project after the Netflix series Anne with an “E” which was canceled after the third season. When the show was canceled, from how I observed everything surrounding the cancelation, I would say that the fans were less angry and more heartbroken. Though the show ended on 2019 I still see people making fan edit for the characters as well as fan art. Some interesting things that I have noticed since the cancelation was that, at one point, someone made a petition for Netflix in order to reverse their decision, to this day, every time I encounter some form of fan-created content, there is a pseudo post for a fourth season of the show.

Share an example of your experience as a fan of a show that was cancelled. help us feel the feels.

One of my favorite comfort shows, Anne with an “E”, was canceled back in 2019 after the 3rd season was released, it was a show that was coproduced between Netflix and the CBC (Canadian Broadcast Channel) and it was just so well produced for it being a book adaptation. When it was canceled, I would say that the fans were less angry and more heartbroken, I was definitely one of those heartbroken people. After the cancelation, I saw many more fan edits for the characters to show their appreciation of the show, from the more artistically talented of the fanbase, they create art inspired by the show. In one instance, someone made a change.org petition intended for Netflix to have them continue the show. But with all this said, there was still a group of people within the community who did show how upset they were through anger.

When transferring our posts for the design project into generated/Canva created posts is there any things that we need to look out for?

Since I have decided to base Favorite Show off of a real show that was canceled, when it comes to creating posts intended for a space like Instagram for this assignment and the platform blueprint is based on an image with the inclusion of a caption, can I use an image from that show or should it be a more general image that is inspired by that show?

Explain the appeal of long podcasts (20+ minutes), why do audiences listen? How do the creators make choices to engage the audience?  

Podcasts are appealing because they are made for commutes for travel while cleaning or completing anything else. Often, people will listen to these to keep themselves motivated and busy. Having a podcast in the background helps people move. Creators engage the audience by developing specific content for their choice of audience. My favorite podcaster is Alix Earle. I feel like her audience is college students and girls. In her recent podcast, she did a sit-down Q&A, listening to in-voice messages and giving her advice. As a viewer, this made me feel connected to her other viewers. Her podcast resonates with me, a college student because, she discusses topics that are relevant to my life, such as beauty, friends, and life drama.

Being able to do other things while listening to a podcast is such a big reason why I gravitate to them so much. I'm able to accomplish other things while I get other things done. One of my favorites recently is Too Many Tabs.

explain the appeal of long youtube videos (10+ minutes), why do viewers watch? How do the creators make choices to engage the audience?

I used to love watching YouTube when I was younger. I think what keeps people engaged is the user themself. Obviously, people go back because they like the content, but it is truly the person's personality that connects the audience to the content they are viewing. The longer video also eliminates the need to make two parts and lets the audience watch the whole thing without having to go to another one.

I 100% agree with you, a big part of the appeal from these creators is their personalities. There have been several times that I have watched videos where I really don't have that much interest in the creator topic, but the way that they present it is what really gets me wanting to watch the video.
