“I use the term decently very loosely,” she laughs for a moment before sighing. “I get $11 an hour to hand people shoes, so I mean it’s not that bad of a break but nothing compared to like an actual job.”

“Well that is pretty nice...Probably as good as it can get for a position at a bowling alley. And it must be nice at times like these, when it’s a quiet evening.” Elise tried her hardest to seem supportive, but she was sure it wasn’t coming off that way. “--I haven’t been bowling since I was thirteen and I hated it then. But leave it up to some cute guy to convince me to give it another try.” She changed the conversation, glancing over at the somewhat empty building. “He hasn’t showed up yet, though. So I guess I can still call it a miserably boring game.”

aaliyah strolled out of the bathroom, ready for a night of adventure and fun. however, she wasn’t expecting many visitors this time of night. she slid the door open, now face to face with the unfamiliar girl. “listen..uh…i’m sorry for your shitstorm at home, but i barely know you and i’m heading out for a while,” she replied, slowly. she looked up at the chilled night sky. “i’m pretty sure the front desk is still open downstairs, you could…try getting a room for the night and figure your shit out in the morning. whatever you do, just get out the cold, it’s fucking freezing out there,” she responded, concern laced in her words.

Elise somewhat figured it would be unlikely that she’d agreed to letting her stay, but that didn’t stop her from becoming disappointed and she was sure her feelings were etched right on her face. “I understand. This was a bad idea anyways. I honestly should have stayed at home.” A soft sigh escaped her lips as she glanced towards the direction her car was in and then looked back at Aaliyah. “My credit card was taken away, so getting a room is kind of hard right now, but I’ll find something to do. Sorry about just showing up out of nowhere.”

“Huh, what?” She hadn’t gotten to falling deep into sleep yet before the knock on her door woke her up. Still, it was late and her thought process was a bit hazy. She rubbed her face for a moment before nodding and moving out the way so Elise could come in. “ Yeah, sure, don’t worry about it. You could’ve at least called first, I would’ve made myself more presentable for company.” Decked out in a large t-shirt and not much else, Athenais couldn’t help but feel slightly exposed. “ Do ya’ want some tea or somethin’? Or like maybe just some hot water? I don’t know if I have tea bags….I probably have ginger ale somewhere.”

A bright smile formed on her lips as Athenais agreed that she could stay. It was so late, she couldn’t even begin thinking about finding another place to stay. “Thank you, so much! I promise I won’t be in your way for too long. I’ll leave first thing in the morning. It’s just been a long night.” Elise spoke, as she stepped inside her place. “Oh, uh...maybe some water, but cold water.--By the way, I’m sorry, if I woke you up. I really should have called ahead.”

The unexpected joke drew a laugh from William, which he tried to stifle with his hand like an excited little girl. He rubbed his red eyes as he considered it, tapping his chin. “Love you too,” he replied, but then pushed the door open so she could enter. “Come in,” he invited. “Excuse the smell. It’s, uh… well, you know,” he said, shrugging his shoulders.

A soft laugh escaped her lips, as she walked into his place, her nose instantly scrunching up from the powerful aroma. “Oh my god, how much did you smoke? I feel like I might get high, just by standing here.” She spoke, walking further inside. “Just out of curiosity, though...is smoking fun? Is being high like being drunk?”

her eye brows raised, not expecting to see elise at her door. quite frankly, she hadn’t been expecting anyone. head turned to look through her bedroom door, making sure that mia was still asleep. “ yeah, sure. you can take the couch. ” stepping aside, she offered a smile. “ is everything alright ? we don’t have to talk about it, if you don’t want. ”

Elise offered her a small smile of gratitude, as she said yes, before making her way into her place. “Thank you.” She said quietly, glancing over at the couch and then returning her gaze back to Lea. “No, no. It’s fine. There’s a lot of arguing going on between my parents right now, since my dad has an upcoming trial and it was just too much to handle tonight. I know I’m too old to be upset by this, but I’ve never seen them this angry before.”

Dressed down to his boxers and a thin Nirvana t-shirt he’d owned since he was eighteen, Luke had been in the middle of coding for a school project when a knock came at his door. A cigarette perched between his fingers exhaled a long trail of grey smoke from its tip as he got up from his desk and went to open it, surprised into a laugh when he saw Elise standing there, although the timid sound of her voice wiped it away. “Yeah, course, come on in,” he ushered her inside and closed the door behind her, a look of concern coloring his face a shade darker as he took in her appearance. “Hey, you alright? What happened at home?”

The moment that he opened the door, Elise took a glance at what he wearing. It was then that she realized how rude it must have been for her to just stop by without a single phone call or even text, and even though he didn’t seem to be bothered by it, she had to withhold the urge to apologize, by biting down on her bottom lip. Her feet instantly guided her inside, as her eyes finally looked away from him. She didn’t really want to answer the question. When it came to her family, she’d rather cling onto the image that they were seemingly perfect and while their issues may have been public knowledge, there was something about talking about the personal details that made it more worse for her. “...I’m sure you heard about William Remy and all of his financial crimes.” She finally spoke, knowing that Luke at least deserved an explanation. “Because of my father’s legal fees and other reasons, my family is having to downsize, which is causing a lot of arguments. That’s not even what’s bothering me the most, though. It’s the fact that my mother is more concerned about money than the possibility of her husband going to prison. Normally I could handle the yelling, but tonight it was too much.” Letting out a soft sigh, she tried her hardest to force a small smile on her lips. “Thanks for letting me stay the night. I know I should have at least told you that I was dropping by.”

noah was surprised when he’d opened the door to elise, especially so late at night. still, he took a few steps back, pulling the door open further with him as he nodded. “yeah, sure.” he shrugged. he wasn’t going to force her to search for another place to crash, sure she wasn’t going to go home if he said no. “spare bedroom’s all yours.”

A sigh of relief escaped her lips, as he agreed to let her stay and she quickly walked inside, trying to escape the cold night air. “I’m glad you said yes. I would hate for my opinion of you to be lower than it already is.” She teased, slipping the conversation over to their usual banter, before any questions arise. “Did I wake you up?””

“Hey!” She said with a small smile, her cheeks heating up slightly – embarrassed that the girl saw her working this job, she truly hated it. “Just recently actually, just needed to pick up some extra cash. So I thought, hey why not get a job? It pays decently but I’ll only be here until I can find somewhere better.”

Elise simply nodded at what she said, as much as she found it amusing at first, she had to admit that she admired her work ethic. There was an increasing reality that soon she would have to find a job as well and stop living off of her family’s money. Which was a thought that honestly terrified her. “It pays decently, really?--How much?” She asked, genuinely curious.

Savanna was half asleep when she heard the knock at the door, ready to just ignore it she started to walk to her room but then decided to see if it was someone important. Opening it up she saw Elise on the other side and was shocked. “hey, yeah! come on in, it’s cold out there.” she steps aside to let the girl in. “do you need like clothes or anything to sleep in?”

A bright smile flashed across the tired features on her face, as if she was trying to thank her without actually saying the words. “I know that I should have called ahead, but I just kind roamed aimlessly, before I realized that I didn’t really want to go back home.” As she spoke, Elise walked into her place, taking a quick glance around, before returning her gaze to the girl beside her. “Oh crap! I hadn’t even thought about that.” She replied, realizing for the first time that she was layered in clothing too warm to sleep in. “Could I possibly have some clothes to sleep in?”

the cool rush of air as he opened the door to his apartment was refreshing. his whole apartment smelled like weed and it really wasn’t a good look for william. now that he’d opened the door, though, he was sure the girl could smell it. taken aback by her request, william crossed his arms, screwing his lips to the side. “i mean… what’s going on that you can’t be at home?” he asked, not letting her in quite yet. he let out a random giggle unable to control his high tendencies. 

If it wasn’t for the smell from the apartment, then it was the laughter that gave it way. He was completely high. Elise held back the urge to roll her eyes. Not because of him, but because of her bad timing and the fact that she really didn’t want to go into details of her family’s issues. “I lied. I needed an excuse to see you, because the truth is that I love you...” She said with a completely blank expression her face, trying to redirect the conversation with a joke. “Just kidding.--Let me in. It’s cold outside.” With that said, Elise finally rolled her eyes.

Elise crossed her arms over her chest, trying to shield herself from the cold, as she looked over at the individual in front of her. She hadn’t planned on coming over to their place. Honestly, she just got in her car and followed wherever her mind naturally took her. “Do you mind if I crash here for the night? Things are a little hectic at my house right now..” It was late. She would understand if they turned her down, but she truly didn’t want to go back home.

“can you stop fuckin’ breathing down my god damn neck?” wilson asked as he stood in line at the grocery store, ready to pay for the food he had gathered in his basket as he glared at the individual behind him. “jesus fuckin’ christ, dude. and you’ve got coffee breath.”

At the mention of her breath, Elise glared right back at him, before she brought her hands up to her mouth and let out a loud huff. He was right. Her breath did smell like coffee, which only made her angrier about the statement. “First of all, you’re being dramatic. I wasn’t breathing down your neck. Second of all, the line started over there.” She pointed towards a spot not too far away from them. “So technically, you cut me in line.”

“so i made a ton of brownies last night thanks to stress baking and i mean– the that’s besides the point.” laney told the other, a smile on her face. “if you want some, i can give you some. and if you want i can make– dinner too. i just– i need something to keep my brain occupied.” 

“Brownies sound great right now. Like really great...but I can’t. The calories.” Elise sighed, before a small smile formed on her lips. “A nice homemade dinner sounds nice, though. Living off of soup and ramen is no way to live and I just don’t have the time...or skill to cook.”

          “what has two thumbs and went to the grocery store specifically for a dozen eggs, only to end up leaving with milk, bread, cheese, and no eggs?? — that’s right, this girl.” she’s still clutching her grocery bags with her head thrown back in frustration. “i act more and more like my bestemor each day.”

“You have everything you need to make a grilled cheese sandwich. If you ask me, you had a pretty successful shopping trip.”

“What size shoe?” Savannah asked monotonously as she looked down at her phone instead of the person in front of her. Who knows why she took up this part time job at the bowling alley, maybe it was to start paying for some college classes or maybe because she felt bad that it felt like her roommate was paying for everything, but here she was. “I said what si-” her blue eyes looked up at the person in front of her and she huffed. “Fuck, what are you doing here?”

Just like the girl in front of her, Elise was preoccupied with her phone, she didn’t even look up, until she heard the sound of her voice. Feeling as though, it sounded familiar, Elise’s head snapped up to see who was speaking to her. With widened eyes, an amused smile curved up on her pink glossed lips. “Savannah?--I thought that was you!” She glanced around for a brief second, before returning her gaze. “So when did you start working here? I’ve never seen you here before.”
