It kills me how Li Huai'an looks at Changyu with such sad longing

favorite scene sequence of episode thirty:

first off, i just, hats off to Tian Xiwei, her acting just is what makes this scene stellar. she portrayal of the panic she is experiencing. the weight of her fathers (alleged) crimes.

the nightmare scene was absolutely gut wrenching.

And then you hit me with Xie Zheng coming in to comfort her (as a viewer I am a bit saddened I don't get to see this man just RUSH in, but I make do).

I really love the juxtaposition we had with Li Huai'an where we saw he and Fan Changyu observe propriety, only talking through the privacy screen. but Xie Zheng? That's his wife, screens are to keep others out!

very pretty and very married. I really like the director choice for tighter shots, it continues to add to the intimacy and vulnerability of the moment.

of course, we gotta add a bit of crazy. it is our marquis after all.

I can only imagine the news of Xie Wu adds to Fan Changyu's guilt. But don't worry queen, he will have a thriving nanny business.

ugh my baby sweet angel. my heart hurts for her. I love the choice that he has no words, no comfort outside of his presence.

and then we hit the gut punch moment where she asks about Wei Qilin

I am not sure if he's read the letter at this point, or if this is a translation miss but this choice of "in the eyes of xyz" feels very intentional. as if he knows something? or at least knows about her identity?

but of course we get the FLIP. girl knows how she felt about the truth with him. AND YET.

scary when you are faced with the prospect of losing the one you love huh. makes ya... a bit selfish (just a teeny bit). to have five more minutes or one more day with him.

oh sweet girl.

ughhhhh this SHOT. this SHOT. yeah they both really put their all into this. and it hurt my heart. <3

no thoughts, just hot. off topic, i wonder if Xie Zheng's wrist guard designs complement the ones he made for Fan Changyu. in my head, they are & i'm sticking to it.

the choice to have Xie Zheng look towards the sun and the light while Li Huai'an steps towards the shadows and shade ooh, YES baby. No matter what happens with this drama, the visuals continue to be everything to me. gorgeous storytelling.

least there is some consistency, everyone is getting the no battles may be shown on screen treatment in the back half. also i love her outfit.

nothing of value to add in commentary outside of this actor is just everything to me, this character is hot, and god do i love the hair. i miss loving toxic characters, might be time to return to my roots a bit.

the only time I have ever been jealous of Li Huai'an is when Qi Min was gently adjusting his robes while threatening him 😭😭

also not me feeling things for ms. bandit and this dying dummy boy. but good news is he has the piece of the tiger tally! I assume he grabbed it off of Qi Min.

note of annoyance on FCY's behalf: i am reminded of Fan Changyu's comment about the need for a big cleaver to cut bone cleanly, and i just watched this boy lob his own head off with that teeny sword/dagger/knife. Fan Changyu is shaking her damn head right now.

i am enjoying this episode as a Li Huai'an hater. i love seeing this man just fucking stew in the embarrassing decisions he has made. yummy.

this shot has me cackling - we got Fan Changyu with her cutie matrilocal husband on the left, and on the right is her girlfriend (some may say one of her best friends, but i also could see them having a harmonious life, sue me okay??) and on the other side of her her girlfriend is her girlfriends man. FAMILY!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!
