Writing ship-able couples
Here are some tips for writing relationships your readers can get behind:
1. Give them reasons to click
The two characters must have things in common - a hobby, a philosophy, a background. There has to be some element that connects them.
Your readers will root for relationships in which the characters fit together better than they would with others.
Also, make their traits compatible. Have them share some characteristics or have their strengths and weaknesses be complementary. Is the one hotheaded? Maybe the other keeps their cool well in situations of conflict.
There are endless possibilities. Just make sure there’s a reason these two people like/love each other.
2. Have them be vulnerable in front of each other
Personally, this is the best way to get me to love a couple.
Have them share secrets, open up about their feelings and tell each other things they haven’t told anyone. Have them cry in front of each other and comfort each other.
This can be taken to a whole new level by having them understand the other’s emotions even without speaking and already offer comfort. Keep in mind that this will probably only be possible with long-established couples.
And having them open up is also a great way for them to discover all the things they have in common/love about each other.
3. Build up the tension
I cannot emphasise this enough: DO NOT MAKE YOUR COUPLES GET TOGETHER TOO QUICKLY.
One of the best elements of a romantic subplot (or even main plot) is the tension. Your readers want to see the pining! They want the build-up.
And no, I’m not saying that you should introduce endless, petty obstacles. That can become tedious and appear forced.
Just give your characters time to sort through their feelings. Make them fall in love slowly. Have them be unsure. Insert SOME obstacles/conflicts.
Have them almost kiss a few times. Not all the time. Too many almost-kisses can become frustrating. But you should throw a few in there.
And, if you feel comfortable with it, add some sexual tension. Have them notice each other’s bodies and imagine what they’d like to do to each other (that sounds more explicit than I intended :) )
4. Write a healthy relationship
This could just be me and my rejection of unhealthy romances, but I will not root for abusive relationships.
Have your characters be kind to each other, support each other and truly care for each other.
If your characters are constantly putting each other down, physically/emotionally abusing each other or going against the other’s wishes, they’re not in a healthy relationship.
A great way to write a healthy relationship whilst still maintaining the tension, is to have the conflict in the relationship be external. Instead of having the conflict be due to internal struggles between the two characters, have obstacles enter from outside.
Your readers should want them to be together and for that, they should be good for each other.
5. Have their friends/family see their chemistry
I find it beyond adorable when two characters are still figuring out their feelings for each other, but the fact that they’re perfect for each other is crystal clear to everyone around them.
Have their friends tease them about the relationship. Have family members ask after the them. Have their loved ones conspire to get them to admit their feelings.
If your other characters are rooting for them, your readers will probably do so as well.
Plus, this means that the chemistry between the two characters is so strong that it’s obvious, which is always good for an exciting romance.
That’s all I’ve got for now. If you have any further questions about writing OTPs or any other aspect of writing, feel free to message me or pop me an ask.

What's your opinion on INFJs ?
Every INFJ is a different person with different ethics, characteristics, etc. It doesn’t matter to me whether someone has a certain type or not. I like people who are self-aware, able to think critically, and dedicated to helping others.
I am especially put off by anyone who boasts their arrogance, greed, and hurtfulness towards others.
On point! 😉

“And I kissed her, I kissed her like her neck was a river, and I’d been so thirsty. I kissed her like our lips were two lost souls who just found each other. I kissed her hard, cause we both knew I’d been wanting to do that for a very long time.”

What makes us INFJs feel loved
•receiving a text from someone who just wants to check up and see if we’re ok.
•someone taking interest in really getting to know us (our hobbies, dreams, interests and our inner person)
•when someone wants to hangout with us all day even if we are doing absolutely nothing.
•when we are chosen to be part of something special (a hobby, a tradition, an adventure/trip)
•when someone takes time out of their day or puts down what they’re doing to offer us help in what ever we are doing or working on.
I’m fighting myself. I know I am. One minute I want to remember. The next minute I want to live in the land of forgetting. One minute I want to feel. The next minute I never want to feel ever again.
Benjamin Alire Sáenz, Last Night I Sang to the Monster
I don’t care what anyone says, brilliance is sexy. Intelligence is sexy. Maturity is sexy. Having a mentally stimulating conversation is sexy. Having a great body is good, being fit is great, health is important. Charm is nice. But intelligence? Intelligence is sultry.

Enneagram 1: The Perfectionist
Healthy Ones are balanced, healthy people, able to forgive their mistakes and others for imperfections. They are highly principled but patient in making the world a better place, and enjoy serving others and having personal integrity.
One Traits
Ones have a high expectation of others and themselves
Ones see the world as full of flaws that need corrected
Ones feel others do not care as much as they do or work as hard
Ones believe the world judges people who do not follow the rules
Ones struggle with resentment and envy since they can’t misbehave
Ones are terrified of making a mistake
Ones tend to bottle up their emotions and hate feeling vulnerable
Ones may struggle to start a project for fear of imperfection
Ones get the job done
Enneagram Wings, Strength & Growth
1w2: are more extroverted, warm, helpful, and empathetic but can also be more critical and controlling. They may take on too much and try to accomplish too much for the time allowed. At risk of “preaching” instead of “teaching.” Under 2’s influence, 1’s more readily sense other people’s needs (but do not always feel driven to meet them).
1w9: tend to be more introverted, detached, and relaxed. More idealistic and objective, they think before they speak to avoid saying something wrong or inappropriate. They are outwardly calmer and mull over decisions for a long time (this exacerbates 1’s procrastination). Often focused on building and maintaining relationships.
Under stress: their inner critic works overtime, and their need to perfect the world has no boundaries, they become resentful of others having fun, sensitive to criticism, and depressed, while longing to be free of obligations and responsibilities, which makes them feel unlovable and no longer confident (unhealthy 4′s influence).
When feeling secure: are more self-accepting, spontaneous, fun, open to trying new things, and abandon their black and white mentality; their inner critic goes silent and they are optimistic about the world (a healthy 7′s influence).
Advice for the 1: remember, a person does not need to be perfect to be good. Stop stifling your emotions, especially your anger, to hide behind a veneer of perceived perfection. Give your inner critic a funny name so you can talk to it, and tell “Cruella” to stop imposing unreasonable expectations on you.
Influences on MBTI Types:
ISTJ: efficient, detailed, and organized, with high personal standards of behavior and work performance for themselves; may take on and do others’ tasks instead of asking them to do them over and/or take on too much at work, school, etc, because it “takes less time for me to do it.”
ESTJ: efficient, detailed, organized, with high professional standards for oneself and others, often strives to model oneself on being the “perfect” (partner, parent, employer, employee, etc) based in external stereotypes rather than building strong emotional connections. Becomes petulant under stress (“No one ever does any work around here except me!”).
ISFJ: efficient, detailed, and has strong moral judgments about the attitudes, behaviors, and performance of others; struggles mightily both with their inner critic and habitual fear of what others may say about their output (Fe), which could cause them to delay starting things indefinitely.
ESFJ: efficient, detailed, and has strong moral ideas of how others should behave and what is socially appropriate; often has unrealistic standards for others and may not realize their own self-standards are equally impossible (due to inferior Ti / lack of self-analyzing), but can usually find ‘pleasing’ ways to ‘correct’ others and shift them toward betterment, without realizing their anger isn’t as hidden from others as they think.
INTJ: strong work ethic and high personal standards, which combine with a Ni-dom desire for a total perfect vision and inferior Se anxieties about not achieving that level of perfection in the real world when executed (which leads to procrastination and fear of beginning, because if they can’t have their perfect vision, they won’t take anything!). May tend to over-simplify complex morality into rigid black and white guidelines.
ENTJ: efficient and organized, with a strong and sometimes unrealistic “perfect” vision it wants to attain in the real world through work / school, etc., more than willing to take decisive action to make it happen, but may blame others if perfection isn’t attained (due to low Fi / 1’s tendency to refuse to take responsibility when things go wrong). Prone to strong views of morality, and may push away from tert-Se desires for pleasure, and new experiences, etc., which may leave the ENTJ feeling imbalanced, angry that their morals prevent them from having fun, or envious of freer spirits.
INFJ: strong personal standards, often unrealistic in their desire for “perfection,” prone to idealized visions but abstract horror at the idea they may not be attainable in real life (inferior Se problems), which could mean they never start, leading to feelings of self-disappointment and criticism for being “lazy” (which is evil!); strong moral opinions on how others should behave, often tied to a Ni-sense of “who they COULD” be. Often, total neglect of inferior Se / looking down on people who “over-indulge.”
ENFJ: a sense of who people could be, as a more perfect version of themselves, prone to trying to push them toward it; strong moral ideas of how others should behave and what is socially appropriate; often has unrealistic standards for others and may not realize their own self-standards are equally impossible (due to inferior Ti / lack of self-analyzing). Struggles to reconcile tert-Se desires (food, sex, experiences, etc) as not being “bad” or “shameful,” and may neglect Se-development, while secretly being envious and resentful of people who “live a little.” Also prone to anxiety about not realizing their “perfect” vision in real life, but more often focused on an idealized, unattainable “perfect vision of oneself.”
ESTP: detail-oriented, hard-working, and will not allow themselves to leap on opportunities that seem somehow immoral and/or irresponsible; often struggles to contain and control Se-dom desires, may secretly feel “sinful” for having Se-based impulses and thoughts; with no outlet for their anger, they may erupt in low Fe ways (through violence) for which they will then feel ashamed and seek external affirmation / reassurances.
ISTP: hard-working, cautious, and attentive to details, more able to reconcile logical reasons not to over-indulge Se, but will feel angrier about self-denial / internal dissatisfaction at stifling their natural Se urges; will often have an abstract ideal of perfection they strive to live up to (tert Ni) and deep shame and/or self-reproach for “allowing their emotions to get away from them” if and when they have inferior Fe meltdowns.
ESFP: detail-oriented, hard-working, and finishes tasks quickly, but will have super strong Fi-ideas of morality, self-control, and the “proper” way to behave which will both frown on others who do not share their values, and prevent them from higher Se indulgences (for example: due to cultural influences, may not believe in, or participate in, premarital sex). May at times feel “hindered” by their strong values.
ISFP: super strong moral judgments which dictate all their decisions; their desire to be hard-working and efficient will tax their inferior Te, making them prone to self-berating for lack of organizational skill or efficiency; they want to ‘control’ their Se impulses and may feel dissatisfied as a result.
ENTP: opportunistic and broad in their critical assessments, often unable to detail them out completely, and hard on oneself for making mistakes that relate to poor Si retention of details and/or strong focus; fear of low Si + Perfection may make them procrastinate endlessly about starting tasks, and look to others for shared affirmation and encouragement.
INTP: the desire to be precise and have no flaws in their theses, logical conclusion, or new idea may mean endless procrastination before sharing; a deep internalization of Ti as it slowly, carefully explores each nuance of whatever is at hand, and self-annoyance at inferior Fe outbursts.
ENFP: prone to unrealistic, ever-changing standards of perfection that are vague (but all amount to “not what you currently are”), strives for perfection in all their relationships and creative projects; is meticulous when it comes to work and triple-checks everything (low Si problems), then feels much more guilt than necessary over “honest mistakes” (due to anxiety about how the other person must feel about them now). Strong moral views of behavior which makes them frown at others who seem irresponsible, immoral, or do not get their work done on time.
INFP: super strong moral judgments which dictate all their decisions; their desire to be hard-working and efficient will tax their inferior Te, making them prone to self-berating for lack of organizational skill or efficiency; prone to unrealistic personal standards of perfection which are vague, and reverts to negative self-comparison to stereotypes (Si), more meticulous due to low Si and harder on themselves than on anyone else.
