it is radical to be a woman who loves herself
Dorothy Allison, from Skin: Talking About Sex, Class and Literature, 1994
i wonder how many people got reminded or remembered my birthday and thought about sending a message but didn't because i have alienated them so far away from my life that they don't even know if that's something that they should do

i just finished taiwan travelogue and my next read will be virginia evans' the correspondent (as part of my goal to finish all the books shortlisted for the 2026 women's prize for fiction, this being my second one of the list). i have decided on this one because it won the prize! i've heard of the premise and it is very highly recommended by booktubers that i enjoy so i am super excited and can't wait to start reading it!
in other news, i've also been loving lighting scented candles recently! thankfully i've gotten over my anxiety over accidentally setting our house on fire so i finally am able to do this inside my room! such a great experience while i'm reading and winding down at the end of the day, and i will be looking forward to getting more scents after i finish the candles my sister gave me. ^___^
im literally that annoying bitch who's always asking why
there has been a lot of discourse on bodies lately, women's bodies in particular (when has society ever stopped, honestly). hence it has also been in my mind quite a lot – extremely thin bodies being labeled as the ideal body of women right now, everyone suddenly losing a lot of weight because of public access to ozempic and other glp-1s, vile fatphobia in the online sphere, etc.
as a girl who has done a lot of work on trying to be okay with the body that i am in, and has been trying her damned best to not be affected by this kind of content, this video by nina montagne (i don't want to manage a body, i want to live in one 🌀 body trends, self-surveillance, and pleasure) has come on my home page at the right time. listening to her talk about this topic in such depth and her perspectives on why and how we've come to this state of affairs is so eye-opening and healing. she touched on a number of thoughts that i have somehow already had in my mind, but she laid them out nicely and quite honestly, beautifully. she touched on how the obsession with the optimization of the body is control disguised as self care, and how all of this, in the end, alienates us to our bodies even more than we already are.
i'm ending this with a quote from the video, which, when i watched it, felt like a revelation and made me feel a whole lot better about myself and the body that i am so blessed to have and be in, and i will continue to try my hardest to not succumb to society telling me to hate it every single day.
"There is a mythological girl reborn in all of us who will continue to reincarnate until we create tangible change. Our intergenerational goal should always be, as B. Hooks says, to rebirth the girl within into a world where she is eternally worthy and not forever young. Liberation… requires reclaiming the body as a site of autonomy, creativity, pleasure, joy, connection. This is what makes life meaningful."
i think that sometimes being too precious with something in fear of ruining it destroys it even faster than it would've if you'd just treated it normally
i did it guys, i decorated my laptop after acquiring stickers from komiket pride :]
went to komiket pride w a friend today and here is my haul! i think art conventions are always very overwhelming to me because besides the fact that there is just *so* *much* to see, there's also so many people, and the heat in this country is so insane and somehow no venue's airconditioning is enough for them, but despite all this, i always try to go as much as i can. i genuinely love seeing how much support artists are able to get because of them! i love seeing beautiful creations of art and just knowing that artists are able to showcase their art thru a wider platform and hopefully profit from them and gain more support from the public. it also is just so fun seeing people so excited when they see things they like, and artists being happy because people are excited and happy with their art!! – even the most niche interests are being appreciated!! (they also sell out much faster, and fans are way more passionate about their interests especially if they're rare). it gives me so much joy seeing this community! support local artists, support queer artists, mabuhay ang mga artistang pilipino!
staying silly is all i got left like i got no money no prospects i’m a burden to my parents and i’m frightened
maligayang araw ng kalayaan, pilipinas. hinahangad ko ang araw na makita kang tunay na malaya.
