from now on, whenever you see an art style you wish you had, instead of going "oh I WISH I could, I want ALL the art styles and yet I am CONFINED to only ONE, and anyway I am not GOOD enough to do that one!!!", repeat after me: "ooh, I wanna try that later."

like, yes, yearning feels Passionate and Artistic and Emotionally Intense, and by going "I could never do that" you leave the art you love with a kind of Legendary Mystique--as if you are a child watching a magic trick.

but you can also switch your brain to "how did they do that" mode instead and play around with anything you want. you can learn the trick for yourself. and it may seem less dazzling afterwards, but that's the price you pay to make your own magic.

in short, basically, you can do whatever you want forever.

no fr this is how you do it, a few years ago i finally managed to shift my perspective from “i can never do that :(” to “i wonder how they did that???” and once i did my opinion about my own work shifted in a huge way

this is why i love time lapse videos n junk so much because i love getting to deconstruct other people's work down to its skeleton. i've even gotten fellow art buddies to swap photoshop files with me so that i could dissect their process like a frog in science class (•̀⌄•́) you wouldn't believe how many things I do in my own art that were picked up along the way from artists whose work I enjoyed, whether it was stylistic choices or just brushes they used that I really liked and found linked in their bio ╭( ･ㅂ･)و

even if their process isn't cut and dry into an instructional step-by-step guide, you can still learn a LOT just by analyzing and mimicking. that's like, the whole problem-solving half to creating art, it engages the critical thinking parts of your brain which is what makes us better at both identifying exactly what we like about other people's art but ALSO at identifying what we DON'T like about our art and specifically HOW we can improve it!

so yeah! great advice from OP! don't turn other people's art into a weapon against yourself! ask yourself what you can learn from them instead! even if it's just an estimation through trial and error you'll still learn a LOT in the process of trying that you wouldn't have learned otherwise!

and this is how new art styles and techniques are born, too! by doing your best impression of other people's techniques and styles and subsequently mixing it in with your OWN techniques and styles that you've developed already to create something brand new! ♡ ～('▽^人)

Scared I might fuck it all up.

I know all of the negative thoughts screaming in my head aren't in my voice and I know I need to get them out of my head.

But these thoughts were always there. At my lowest points they were there. Before I met my partner these thoughts were there.

I'm scared that these thoughts are all that's left of who I used to be and they aren't even mine. But they're the inly thing left from when I was a kid
