Sometimes, things felt worse than they actually were but Ayrton always made a point to treat people just like he’d want to be treated: with respect. “I’m sorry that she was so horrible to you. People who can’t treat others with respect are just poor excuses of human beings. Most of the time, these people suffer from a superiority complex. It’s a good thing you didn’t play her game though”.

“You’re totally right. I really shouldn’t let this woman get to me this much. So many people come in there irritable because they haven’t had coffee yet. Normally I love to be the person to give everyone a nice boost, this woman was just particularly horrible. But I should let it go and not let her take up this much space in my brain, because then she wins.” The blonde sighed to herself, glad to have been able to just vent it all out and just let everything go now.

Scarlett topped off the wine, huffing out a breath and shrugging at the question Ellie posed. “God, all over really,” she answered. Short, simple, and sweet. “For someone who is so impatient, I have nothing to complain about when it comes to your barista skills. You make my Caffe Americano to near perfection, sweetie, and I’m definitely a tough critic. Couldn’t get through my day without you.”

Ellie let out a small laugh at the compliment on her skills. She always loved hearing that people loved the coffee she made. “Well, I’m glad I can be of assistance. People like you are why the job is so fun. I love coffee and making it for people who share the same love for it is the best.”

“Don’t even apologize,” Becky shook her head with a smile. “Anytime you need to rant about work? I’m all ears. Or even if you just need to rant in general, I’m a great listener. I’ll even throw in some baked goods to rant over.”

“Hopefully the ranting is over, I normally try to be very positive. She’s not worth my time, obviously.” Ellie gave the woman a smile. “Baked goods? Okay, now you’re talking. Remind me to keep you around.”

Scott understood where she was coming from, even though it had been a while since he’d done any type of service job, mainly because once he’d done it, he decided it was not for him and figured out how to never have to again, but nodded along to what the blonde was saying anyway. “We all have those days where people press our patience one too many times, dude, it happens don’t beat yourself up over it for losing your cool.” He advised and thought for a moment. “I can’t help you with the drinking cause I no longer do that for lack of self-control reasons, but if ya wanna blow off some steam I’ve got an idea.”

Ellie was already starting to feel a bit better after venting the majority of her anger out to him. She knew she shouldn’t let a stranger get to her this way even if she was being a horrible human. “I am absolutely open to any and all ideas of blowing off steam though.”

“No, you’re absolutely right, customer service jobs are the worst.  People have no decorum when it comes to servers and cashiers and the like, it’s pretty gross how inconsiderate how humanity can be. But whoever it was that was rude to you, I’m sure is probably a total douche canoe and does not deserve a minute more of your time,” Pippa smiles gently, hoping it’s reassuring. “Or we could totally hunt them down and cuss them out? Write them a strongly worded letter?”

“I appreciate that so much. She truly isn’t worth the energy. It’s insane how some people treat service workers as if we aren’t even human. I mean I know how horrible some people are before they have their coffee. She was just particularly bad.” Ellie chuckled softly, in an attempt to laugh it all off. “She will get hers, I know it. You can’t go around treating people that way and expect nothing to happen. You know what I mean?”

The hardest part of working directly with the customer was the costumer, Noah understood well, but at the same time it was nice to see people enjoying his food. “I understand you, people can be so unpleasant. But what happened?”

“Just some woman, who comes in a lot, I got her order right but she was rude about it and insisted something was wrong. Naturally I remade it even though I knew it was right. She almost talked to me as if I wasn’t a real person. Ridiculous.” Ellie shook her head, almost trying to shake off the negative feeling she had. “Things happen though, right? I shouldn’t let it get to me this much.”

“Unfortunately we live in a world with a lot of entitled people who think they can be assholes to just anyone. I’m sorry about whatever happened.” Paloma offered, giving her a small sympathetic smile. “I propose that we push past it, for now at least. Karma works in mysterious ways and they’ll get it. How about some ice cream? You’re not lactose intolerant right? I think I’ve also got some vegan ice cream if anything.”

The blonde smiled and nodded, definitely wanting to move on and forget about the day she had along with the rude woman. “Yes, yes. Now you’re speaking my language. I would love some ice cream, getting this day would be ideal for me.”

“You’re not being out of line at all. People tend to look down at people who have to service them. And the fact that if they get all bent out of shape, you’re not allowed to react because you could lose your job. “ Xander hated when people treated other people like crap just because they can. “That’s why I hate the slogan that customers are always right.”

“Right! Exactly! I mean obviously I stay professional, but the things I want to say? I would be fired immediately.” Ellie let out a sigh, thankful someone was receptive to her venting. “I mean you’d think people wouldn’t want to be rude to someone who is literally making something they’re going to ingest. Not that I would do anything, but someone somewhere might.”

Rosalind still didn’t understand the point of being rude when ordering a coffee but she wasn’t blind to the fact that the world ws full of entitled people who felt like the rest owed them something. “You definitely have a point. I wouldn’t expect someone to ask me to do something in the office and them proceed to throw insults my way.” It had happened to her when she had first started out in the law industry but now she was at the top of the cain, things were a lot easier. “I’ve seen it with my own eyes. All they have to do is order coffee. It doesn’t need to be as complicated as they make it, nor do they have to try bring you down in the process.”

Ellie knew too tell that this was a silly thing to be ranting about when there were far more important things in the world. However, for some reason, this day was the most stressful she had felt at work. “It seems like such an easy thing to be nice to someone, you know? It’s almost like if you work food service or anything similar, they almost think you’re less than them. I’m glad I’m not alone in thinking that, although I cannot imagine who would agree to the mistreatment of people.”

Scarlett patted the seat beside her, inviting the blonde to make herself comfortable. “It sounds, sweetie, like you need a much needed glass of Rosé,” she grinned, only seconds away from already pouring Ellie a glass. “I used to work a customer service job back in California. It’s only the real way to learn patience, because you deal with a lot of stupid fucking people.”

Ellie sat down beside the woman at the mention of alcohol, she definitely could use that about now. “I am probably the most impatient person ever, so customer service is almost difficult for me.” She shook her head at herself, knowing how ridiculous she was being. “California, huh? What part are you from?”

“I’ve heard that a lot so I’m tempted to think you’re not the one out of line here”. While he never experience that himself, he’d noticed that kind of behavior in some people from his neighborhood. “May I ask what happened?”

Ellie sighed to herself, remembering the situation before then trying to explain it. “Well this lady came in, seemed super nice. And as usual, I put on my people voice. Everyone has one, its like a peppy voice. But as soon as I spoke, she acted as if I was just too dumb to know how to even make a simple espresso. Not only that but after her order was done, she claimed it wasn’t even what she asked for. It absolutely was, but I remade it anyway.” She stopped herself, noticing she was rambling about coffee of all things. “Sorry, it’s not that big of a deal, just a very long day.”

kirby knew exactly what ellie was going through. they too worked a costumer service job and had smilier experiences. while they didn’t work with coffee, makeup did bring out the worst in people sometimes. “oh no, you aren’t. i sell makeup and people treat me as if i don’t have a proper education. so yeah, i get it. people are rude.” 

“Makeup? Oh my god, I can’t even imagine the ridiculous people you encounter. I mean, people before coffee are terrible, but people trying to get their makeup, I would guess they’re even worse.” Ellie tilted her head slightly at them before continuing. “You would think its easy to just be nice to someone offering a service to you, but what do I know, right?”

Liv listened to the fellow patron as they ranted about the service, she always felt bad for customer service workers- not because she looked at them as less then or anything, but because they had to deal with a lot of crap with a smile. “Maybe they’re having a bad day?” Liv suggested. “I mean these jobs can be the worst, and sometimes it’s hard to pretend on a bad day.”

As much as Ellie hated to admit it, she had a point. “You’re right, I’m sure their day wasn’t the most wonderful so they took it out on whoever.” She took a deep breath before taking a sip of her drink she brought with her. “I am definitely not patient enough for any customer service job, that much is clear.”

“I think for some people bein’ nice really is difficult,” Becky frowned. “It just comes easy for some of us but others? Imagine havin’ to take the time to make the decision to be nice to a stranger, some people just don’t wanna put in the effort.”

“You would think being nice to someone who handles your food or drink is just common sense. Then again, a lot of people lack that in general. Anyway, sorry for that rant, I just reached my limit with people today.”

“Keeping in mind that I grew up in the world’s worst armpit, Jacksonville, Florida. The only two customer service jobs I’ve ever worked was in a gift shop and a Wendy’s. In Florida. If it taught me anything it’s that people suck a bag of dicks,” He paused and drifted off a bit as if being haunted by the memories and added, “Or are just real fucking weird.” He nodded and then seemed to snap out of it. Point is, I get you. Vent it on out. Do what you gotta do. Sorry people are the worst, sorry they haven’t been nice to you.” 

“I normally am so good at faking nice, at least for a job. But for some reason today, everyone rubbed me the wrong way. It’s mostly just the talking down to me, as if I’m just some idiot that makes coffee.” She stopped for a moment and shook her head. “Maybe I need to brush up my people skills. Or better yet, I need to drink it off and just let it go.” She knew she probably sounded like such a brat complaining about this.

“Okay, so not that making coffee is the most difficult job in the world but, is it so difficult to be nice to the person who makes your drink?” Ellie let out a sigh, clearly annoyed over the day she just had. “Maybe I’m the one out of line here, but I swear sometimes customer service jobs are literally the worst.”
