I saw this on facebook and honestly yeah
ok this has become a somewhat popular post, and I just want to add on because I realise this just says about dating, but it extends to friendships too. just be aware of this and remind the person of their worth, yeah? Even if it’s just a friend and not a partner
I cherish small intimacies. A head resting against a shoulder, lips brushing against a nose, a kiss on the neck, a hand reaching out for my own
where do boys get off thinking they’re better than girls have you seen the difference in powerpoint project quality
north carolina gothic
the capital is called the city of the oaks. you’ve only ever seen pine trees
the forecast says scattered thunderstorms this afternoon. the forecast is always thunderstorms. when are they coming?
I-40 is backed up. it is always backed up. you’re not sure how long you’ve been stuck in traffic but you’re sure your hair’s gotten longer
there is a seagull on your car despite the ocean being several hundred miles away. you don’t know where it came from. maybe it’s always been here
the state fare is coming up. everyone you know is entering something. what are they entering? they don’t know. something must always be entered
someone you know offers to pray for you. they never stop praying. you think you can still hear them whispering you name. you’re alone in the house
it’s snowing today. four inches they say. it’s a record. but tomorrow it’ll be ninety degrees. the trees weep
you think you just met someone from South Carolina but you’re not sure. all you know is that they can’t be any good
nobody ever comes back from Cary
you pass signs for south of the border. but which border?
the public school calls you at six am to say classes aren’t cancelled. your kids graduated seven years ago
inclement weather. nobody knows exactly what it is but it’s dangerous to go outside. the last person who left your house came back with frostbite, sunburn and strange bite on their leg no-one can identify
you think this sign becomes more racist every time you pass it
you practice tornado drills. you don’t know why. as far as you know there’s never been a tornado. you keep practicing
deer are eating the vegetables in your garden. deer are eating the flowers on your second floor windowsills. deer are eating the food out of your refrigerator. there is no way to stop them. when will their hunger be sated
you don’t know what’s past the tobacco farms at the edge of town. you’re not sure you want to find out
you’re not sure when hunting season is but everyone is always preparing for it. what is being hunted?
the boys at the school are wearing shirts that say “ducks unlimited.” where are the ducks. why won’t they stop
zucchini is in season. zucchini is always in season. it has taken over the house when you forgot to lock your windows. you might be living in a zucchini, at this point you can’t even see the ceiling through the massive leaves
there is an ice storm. the trees have fallen, branches splintered under the pressure. the power is out for weeks. you buy a generator and accidentally get carbon monoxide poisoning
I find the concept of growing in love so much prettier than love at first sight?? like one day you look at someone and you suddenly realize you see them in a different light than you did the night before. that’s falling.
my favorite emotion is when someone does something kinda foolish and all you can say is “i love you” in response
when you see something that reminds you of a partner/loved one and you send them a link to it that’s a form of gift-giving (preserving the meaning and thoughtfulness behind “i saw this and i thought you would like it”) without costing money, and i think that’s a cool thing to talk about re: love in the digital age that’s not “millennials look at their phones too much and it’s destroying relationships”
absolutely. some of the best texts i get are the ones that are “i saw this and it reminded me of you.” i think that’s huge.
it’s so dumb that broad shoulders are considered unattractive in a woman just because the ideal of womanhood is based on the perceived fragility of a smaller frame. have you ever seen a woman with broad shoulders? looks like she was sculpted by the gods themselves
New Republican ad came out today which gave me the best reaction image I’ve ever seen.
she looks like a lizard person

hey umm just a notice, please take note of any chronically ill people in your life. Don’t tell someone with a chronic illness to “try harder” or “just push through it.” Even unsolicited health advice is kind of annoying sometimes. I get that your intentions may be good, but when we’re told that, or given advice (that often times we’ve already tried) it just reminds us that our situations kind of suck and there’s nothing we can do about it. I know that it’s difficult to conceive of, that even just getting out of bed may physically or mentally exhaust us, or cause us pain. We try a lot harder than it seems to be “normal.” Most of the time, we are just as frustrated doing nothing all day. It’s just upsetting to have family or friends get mad even though we are trying our best !
good: expecting “u cant touch this” and instead getting “super freak”
bad: expecting “sweet home alabama” and getting that kid rock song
ugly: expecting “under pressure” and getting “ice ice baby”
I used to think it was important to have common interests with the person that you are in a relationship with but now I think it is more important to be similar in other aspects. like how kind you are. how you treat the people you care about, how you treat strangers. how you deal with anger. how you deal with pain. and not necessarily dealing with all these things the same way but being perseptive enough to understand what action each situation calls for. it’s important for both people to be on the same page about what that action should be. it’s important to me to have that kind of synchrony.
APOLOGY ACCEPTED TRUST DECLINED
You don’t have to let someone back in even if you’ve forgiven them
My tummy doesn’t have to be cute. It holds my internal organs. My thighs don’t have to “crush men’s skulls”. I use them to carry myself. My stretch marks don’t have to be tiger stripes I earned. They came when I grew.
Stop.
feeling this
This!
I feel like even body positivity is too focused on, like, the appearance of the body. I know I became a whole lot happier with my body when I started thinking of it less in terms of how it looked (to me or anyone else) and realized, that, like…
When I feel cool breeze on my skin on a really hot day, my body did that for me.
When I step into a bath after a hike, and my muscles ache, but in a good way, and the steam all around me makes me feel like a flower blooming, my body did that for me.
And the hike before it, and standing on a large rock breathing the raw winter air seeing the power of the half-frozen river. That too.
When I’ve had a plate of pasta puttanesca, and I chopped and sauteed the ingredients and now I’m full-but-not-uncomfortable, and warm all over, and perfectly content, my body did that for me.
My body doesn’t have to look awesome to be awesome. It’s awesome because it’s where I live.
Best comment.
“[My body is] awesome because it’s where I live.”
Words. To. Live. By.
Finally, some real body positivity
