"can you behave" yes, if I wanted to, but this is so much funnier
It is your sacred duty to post about your OCs as if they are canon characters who have always been a part of the story and everyone knows about them

River caught the stress he put on 'not being caught' and immediately quieted down. She would have to save her excited squeaks for when they made it out of the mountain. She could do that. The girl took a breath to calm herself and quieted her footsteps as she kept up with Nori, her mind still wondering where they would end up specifically. Maybe they would be able to visit Dale and browse the stalls there. That would be fun. The fact that he needs her specifically because he isn't sure what type of flowers to get makes her feel all the more important.
"Of course! I know what flowers Bilbo likes." She says happily, her voice kept down to a soft excitement. She's spent many evenings with the hobbit, after all, talking of botany, flowers, gardens, the whole lot. She's not only learned a great deal from her uncle, but also retained may details about his favorites that she uses regularly to surprise him. This will be no different.
"How much further till we make it out?"
The odds of anybody following them yet are low, and Nori knows this. Sooner or later someone will realise River isn't where she's supposed to be, and if no one realises that it's Nori that's snuck her away, Kili's bound to panic and send out some search parties. For the moment though, they're alone, and if Nori's being a little too enthusiastic about the need for them to sneak and shush, that's only because it's fun. Sneaking away wouldn't be any fun if there wasn't any sneaking involved.
"I knew you would." Flower talk isn't something the dwarf can engage with much, but he's learned enough to know when it's happening, and he knows that River and Bilbo talk a lot.
Nori's a little louder now, because there's a hint of light up ahead, and he can't help but smile.
"A few moments more, and we'll see the sky." He promises.
Sure enough, the light steadily grows until they reach the opening, Nori pushing rock aside to give them enough room to slip out onto the mountainside. Not all the damage done by Smaug has been undone as of yet, but ash (as Bilbo explained it) has worked wonders for nature, and small bushes and flower patches litter the ground. They don't have to go far, he doesn't think, but River will know if the plants they need are further out.
"Here we are. Be sure you watch your step, lass, mind the loose rocks. Your Adad will have my beard if you fall."
River hears the dwarves words before she sees the light, mostly because she's so focused on her feet to make sure she doesn't trip. Once she looks up a grin spreads across her face at the sight of the gentle light. It's not long at all before she's watching Nori push aside stone and debris and crawling through the opening. The girl follows after, placing her feet carefully as she makes her way out into the open and taking a deep breath of the open air.
"My Adad worries far too much. I'd fall over my own feet, and he'd be in a fuss."
The girl is up on her feet as soon as she can manage, brushing dirt and ash from her skirts as she looks around at the mountainside with interest. While she has very few qualms of living in the mountain with her dwarven family, she absolutely loves the moments when she gets to go above ground and take in the sun and grass and life that goes on outside of their home. Even now, her eyes have wondered to some of the closer flowers that grow in patches just a short distance away.
River trots over to the little red flowers and couches down to look at them with a grin, knowing full well that Nori won't mind so long as she doesn't get out of eyesight, and picks a few to bring back.
"Look, fire poppies!"
Rhys watches as Tadashi takes the offered apple half and gives him a small crooked smile before biting into his own piece. The boy doesn't seem too affected by the change, Rhys certainly isn't, so he considers this a good sign. Until it isn't.
The crow listens as the other starts on with the questions, his brow coming up slightly though a bit of mischief sparkles in his eyes. That's the reaction he's used to, and one that he's more than accustomed to answering.
"I'm still a crow, just bigger."
Okay, that's usually the sarcastic response he gives... maybe not the best one for this instance. He takes a small breath and tries to think of what to tell the other, cause honestly he's sorta at a loss. He's always been able to do this, but maybe a warning would have been a good thing to give him...
"This is something all crows can do if they choose. It's a gift from our god. I didn't mean to... startle you. I can shift back if that makes it easier."
Don't mind Tadashi. Don't mind the crease of his brow, or the panicked look in his eyes, or the way his mouth can't decide whether to be open so he can speak or closed so he can think, but he can't quite manage either. It's just that his entire world view is being shattered. No biggie. Typical lunchtime events.
The harpy's wings flare behind him, a gesture that's instinctive and defensive, because startled is an understatement, and he nearly drops the half the apple that he's holding.
"All crows!" He repeats, voice cracking slightly in his distress. It can't be all crows, it just can't. How many crows has he seen in his life? How many has he spoken to, or taken pictures of, or done something embarrassing in front of, and they could all do this? Yamaguchi's poor frazzled mind can't comprehend it.
"You're telling me that every crow can change shape, can go from being a crow to a...to a...this." He doesn't mean to be rude, but with his free hand, Tadashi gestures vaguely at Rhys. "Do most of them just....not? ...Is it more comfortable for you to be a crow?"
Okay, so maybe a warning would have been best, Rhys is slowly starting to realize that. Unfortunately, he's already thrown himself, and apparently, his whole species, under the bus, so now all he can think to do is try and calm the harpy down.
Rhys watches as Tadashi gestures to him, his own gaze going down to his simple clothes and bare feet before he looks back up at him, his own gaze becoming slightly guarded as he feels his own feathers start to prickle up in his hair, a side affect of nerves.
"Yes, every crow can change shape and be a two legged, it's not common knowledge, but it is a truth we don't usually share with others. Either shape is comfortable, although the legs are more clumsy than wings."
He looks to Tadashi with a small bit of worry, his hand twitching with the urge to try and preen the other's wings back down. At this point, he's not sure if that's a good idea or not, though.
"Don't be sorry."
Rhys is far too amused by the others' reactions, the last thing he should be is sorry for them. He hops from the shoulder perch he had when the other fluffs out his wings, a shrill caw coming from him as the action catches him off guard. The crow, in turn, fluffs out his own wings, spreading them wide before flapping them softly.
He's about to make a comment about the interruption to his preening when he sees him pick up the smooth rock Rhys had left him. His feathers fluff up happily this time as he gently chitters out his happiness.
In the next moment, he's hopping down to the ground behind the boy, shaking his feathers free as he shifts, his talisman glowing softly as the magic that keeps him in clothes works on his body. The crow is replaced with a young man dressed simply in black jeans and a tank top, his messy hair still holding onto some of his feathers.
"Nonsense, we can share this one too." He sits on the bench next to Tadashi and takes the apple in both hands, his brow furrowing slightly as he breaks the apple in half and offers one to the harpy.
If Tadashi weren't distracted, he might have noticed that something was about to happen. But as it is, he's kept unobservant and content by the rock he holds and the soft reassurance towards his anxieties. Being ruffled is fine, and as much as Yamaguchi gets embarrassed and feels the need to apologise, it helps calm him to know that Rhys doesn't truly mind.
It's nice. He's relaxed, he's happy.
And then he's confused.
Yamaguchi can't tear his eyes away as Rhys' form shifts and changes. Though he has to go from looking down at a crow to looking up at Rhys' face (with no beak!?), he doesn't even blink, eyes wide with panic and wonder in equal parts. His mouth opens, as if he could possibly find anything to say right now, and Rhys being able to speak so casually doesn't help in the slightest.
Then the...crow...guy....Rhys manages to split the apple with his bare hands, and for just one moment, Tadashi manages to have a single coherant thought.
That was hot.
Cheeks slightly flushed, he reaches dumbly for the offered apple half. And the panic kicks back in.
"Wait. Wait wait wait. What just happened? You...you're a crow. You're a crow, how are you not a crow?!"

The girl kept close, following Nori through the twists and turns of the passage, excited for whatever favour the dwarf was offering. Of course, with Bilbo brought up her complete and total conviction was unquestionable. She absolutely adored her little hobbit uncle and his fondness for plants that rivaled her own. The added benefit of getting to leave the mountain was icing on the cake though.
"We get to go out? Really?" If her excitement wasn't noticeable before, it sure was now. The girl squeaked a little, bouncing on her toes slightly as she tried not to trip herself.
"Absolutely! Where is it we're going? What sorts of flowers will we be looking for?" Really the type didn't matter as much as the where, her mind wondering if they would go to a market or a meadow. Either way she wanted to bring some blooms home for herself as well.
Nori had known before he said anything that the princess would do just about anything for Bilbo. The company are the same, all protective over him and wanting his happiness. Some odd effect of Hobbits, perhaps, unless it's Bilbo in particular. But it's brought them all closer, building this family with him in the center, and Nori won't complain.
"So long as we aren't caught, we're going out." A rule he's set himself is to have River back in the mountain by nightfall, but there's no reason they can't sneak about until then. She's certainly excited enough that he doesn't think she'll be in a hurry to come back inside, and it makes him grin as they get closer to an exit.
"That's what I need you for, lass. Bilbo wants something to put in a vase, something about a centerpiece for a table." Nori waves a hand, because really, he only listened enough to know he was being asked to fetch plants ("But not weeds, thank you Nori."). "Us dwarfs not knowing much about them, I thought I'd call in an expert. You can pick out something he'll like, I'm sure."
River caught the stress he put on 'not being caught' and immediately quieted down. She would have to save her excited squeaks for when they made it out of the mountain. She could do that.
