i am shorter than 5’5”. i have scars. i tan easily. i wish my hair was a different color.   i have friends who have never seen my natural hair color.  i have a tattoo. i am self-conscious about my appearance. i’ve had/have braces. i’ve been told i’m attractive by a complete stranger. i have more than two piercings. i have/had piercings in places besides my ears.

EXPERIENCES

i’m afraid of dying. i hate funerals. i’ve seen someone/something dying. someone close to me has attempted/committed suicide. i’ve written a eulogy for myself.

Just Try and Stop Me 🏀 Pax & Ellie

Two months of planning, hundreds of emails and texts, $500 in tickets and the plan was in motion. As per usual, Ellie was involved in a scheme that she and several of Harvard’s other notorious folks on the social justice list-serves had deemed absolutely necessary, despite the fact that it was, well, a bit reckless. A scheme that promised thousands of eyes to see and thousands of minds to change, as well as upwards of 30 police officers waiting on hand to stop it from happening. For years, Wells Fargo had shared banking interests with the Boston Celtics, and these days, it was also sharing it’s loans with the firm financing the Dakota Access Pipeline. Since DAPL had made significant noise in late 2016, protests had erupted around the country calling people and corporations to divest from using it’s banking services. Unfortunately, the Celtics had yet to, and Ellie and the others wanted to make sure everyone in proudly blue, Democratic stronghold Boston knew about it. 

As she stood by her friends in the stands near the tunnel to the locker room, Ellie watched the clock tick down second by second, daring her to do something that the small voice in the back of her head begged her not to. Her parents were really going to enjoy posting bail for this one. Especially her Goldman Sachs employed mother. “Thirty seconds,” someone murmured. This is it, Ellie thought, pulling the ‘Divest from Wells Fargo, Divest from DAPL’ banner from her sweatshirt. Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale. And then, the buzzer. The loud beep sounded signaling half time, and before she knew it, El was quickly jumping over the barrier to the court, unrolling her sign. And then, unexpectedly, she was being pulled in the other direction, yanked forcefully towards the tunnel, her body unable to resist the force guiding her away from from the rest of the group. As abruptly as it started, it stopped again, and El found herself face to face with one of the last people she’d thought she’d see. “Pax?! What the fuck?!”

This Bar Ain’t Big Enough for the Both of Us 🍻 Ellie & Andrew

12AM on a Saturday morning and Ellie could almost always be found with similar company in similar establishments lined up near Harvard’s Cambridge campus. Depending on the weekend, the bar scene vibes near it’s old ivy covered buildings ranged from raging to intellectual to touristy to the worst of all... townie. For reasons Ellie and most other Harvard students couldn’t grasp, or really any students from one of Boston’s seemingly 1,000 universities, townies inevitably slowly creeped into campus bars targeted at college students in the late weeks in May every single year, almost fully taking them over by mid-June. “Ugh!” Ellie groaned loudly, rolling her eyes and downing a large shot of whiskey. “I swear to fucking God, if another 30 something, never-accomplished-anything-in-his-life, fuckboy with a tribal tattoo grabs my ass and calls me baby one more time...” she added, slamming the glass on the mahogany bar. The bartender she’d become all too familiar with over the last couple years of flashing her bad Arizona fake simply shook his head and smiled before turning his back to fill her another drink. And then, just like clockwork, another shadow appeared by Ellie’s side, the smell of alcohol and Axe body spray completely consuming the air around her. Turning quickly, her face completely unamused, she positioned her body to show she wasn’t fooling around. “No,” she said flatly, before he could speak. The stranger who perfectly matched her previous description began to protest, but she again stopped him short. “Make a misogynistic comment and I fucking swear I’ll fucking force feed you that shitty middle school body spray!” Ellie yelled forcefully, slurring her words. “Try me, bro!”

“I’m cute to look at, but I also have something to offer the world in addition to that,” Ellie retorted. “That thing does not,” she added, pointing back to the mini beer bottle now nestled back in it’s home. Ellie shook her head at Gus and rolled her eyes, beginning the search for her own drink as she moved down the aisle. “Sometimes I naively think I’ve forgotten about what a cess-pool the state of Pennsylvania is, and then you just have to remind me,” she grinned mischievously, running her hands over the craft brews displayed proudly on the shelves. “How about you pick something for me, since I picked for you,” Ellie suggested. “And don’t you dare pick something from Philly for irony.”

gus is taken aback by how good their points were. “you’re right,” he says, sadly shuffling along with her as they move about the distributor. he glancing at the glass panels in front of an endless array of drinks, nibbling at his lesser lip. his gaze tears from the drink only to look at the other, seemingly offended as eyebrows tug together. “hey! philly is most definitely a separate state than the rest of pennsylvania. they are nothing alike, and don’t you forget it.” as they pose their suggestion, gus is quick to guide himself through the aisle, pretty certain he’s already thought of the perfect drink. “do you prefer strawberries, mangoes, or raspberries?”

Ellie turned and gave Gus a look before returning her attention to the liquor in front of her. “Uh huh. Sure,” she added sardonically, rolling her eyes. “A swing state is a swing state is a swing state,” she mumbled, flipping a label around and momentarily reading the non-sense covering the back. “Really, Waters?” she winced. “None of the above if I can help it. If you give me Burnett’s, I swear to God....”

Beautiful. And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!” she added, clapping her hands and toasting to her own comment. “Besides, there are a lot of worse things you could look like than a public television character. Even if he lives in a trashcan!”

Beth watched the girl in amusement, “Oh but you should have seen when I pulled myself out of bed this morning..” she laughed. “Indeed, although I wouldn’t like to look like some television characters…”

“i don’t know, but it’s cute to look at.” he says, flashing the other a wide grin. when what was in his hands is replaced by something a million times bigger, he nods. “i’m from phila-fucking-delphia,” he begins, channeling his inner philly rage, that same grin plastered among excitable features. “nothing’s ever felt more natural in my hands.”
