Let me tell ya. That was Ilya’s first time Frotting .Not just with Shane, with anyone . The look on Ilya’s face is not just someone who is turned on. It’s a look of astonishment, amazement , surprise and wonderment.

Ilya seems to not know what Shane is doing, and Ilya allows Shane to take control . Shane’s ministrations send Ilya into an emotional territory he has never been before . He knows at that moment he is Shane’s forever .

Merman!Steve

Natural gates have been opening all over the world throughout history but the world is mostly water so that's where they usually happen. The gates don't stay open long so a group of merfolk got trapped in the upside down for a while and established their own population back when the upside down still had water. After many generations, the gates opened again and allowed the upside down merfolk to hybridize with the right side up merfolk. This cycle of hybridization and isolation has happened for millennia.

Steve is from a line of merfolk that's almost entirely from the right side up but he is aware of the upside down because all merfolk now have low level telepathy and have an extensive oral history conveyed through a combination of song and shared memory.

Also a bit of lore borrowed/expanded from The 13th Year: Young merfolk look entirely human and need to grow up on land. Around 13 years old, they go through their first transformation and can decide from there if they want to stay in human form or merfolk form or if they want to go back and forth. Merfolk parents usually stay on land with their kids until they hit 13.

A looooooooooooong time ago, merfolk used to prey upon the ancestors of humans by luring them into the water through song but they also would do a brood parasite type thing by leaving their babies on shore for the human ancestors to find and take care of; this allowed the baby to better learn their preys vocalizations for later after they returned to the water.

After a whole bunch of evolution, it became clear that humans were getting smarter and more dangerous so they stopped being a worthwhile food source. After a while, some merfolk decided to live with humans instead of going back to the water. Eventually not eating humans became less about hunting them being risky and more of a borderline cannibalism type taboo.

All merfolk have both sets of reproductive organs. The upside down population has generally darker colors. Steve is especially bright even for a right side up merfolk because he's from a population that's from a coral reef. His moles become golden scales in his merfolk form. His parents have decided to permanently go back to the ocean after Steve did his first transformation.

Barb survives because Steve has better senses than a human even in human form so he heard the demogorgan coming and fucking launched himself at it and dragged into the pool and furiously ate it.

Sleepy fucked out happy happy subspaced Shane whining a little everytime Ilya pulls back from a kiss. Love thinking about an AU where the relationship reveal with Yuna and David happens because something overwhelms Shane into a panic attack/breakdown, maybe they're at some NHL show or event, maybe it's just been a really long fucking day, maybe suddenly Shane feels just completely overwhelmed by the lights and the noise and all the fucking people wanting to shake his hand or slap his back or tell him how much they like his fucking play.

Yuna notices something is wrong because of course she does and together with David they herd Shane into some private empty side room hoping it will help him calm down. But it doesn't. He wont stop shaking and his breathing is too fast and he flinches at their voices even tho nobody is speaking loudly. Won't let Yuna come close to hug him or rub his arm.

Maybe Yuna is starting to panic a little herself, her heart aching as she watches Shane wrap his own arms around himself, hates that she cant do anything when her son is so clearly in distress, hates that she can't seem to think of anything that will work-

When suddenly the door bangs open and Ilya Fucking Rozanov??? strides into the room with quick steps, makes a beeline directly for her son, eyes locked on him like he doesnt even register her and David in the room as well and Yuna opens her mouth to cuss him out, tell him to fuck off and not bother Shane right now, she can feel her body moving already to stand in front of Shane protectively when David grabs her arm because-

Because Rozanov is pulling Shane into his arms, one hand on the back of Shane's neck, guiding his head to press into the crook of Rozanov's neck and Shane isn't fighting it, doesn't flinch from his touch. He goes where Rozanov arranges him and let's himself be held and rocked back and forth gently as Rozanov presses his mouth to Shane's ear and starts whispering something so quietly that Yuna can't really make out the words but what she can see is Shane's shaking subsiding, hands fisting tightly into Rozanov's shirt, his breathing going slowly back to normal because - oh. oh - her son is syncing his breaths with Rozanov who, Yuna realises, is taking very exaggerated deep slow breaths of his own so Shane can match them. And then Rozanov turns slightly while still rocking them both back and forth and Yuna sees Shane's face where it's smushed into Rozanov's neck. Sees the look there.

And that's how Yuna realises her son is in love and the man - his years-long rival - he loves must have left in the middle of his award-winning show to come here and pull her son out of a panic attack like there was no place he'd rather be than right here with Yuna's overwhelmed panicked boy in his arms, soothing him until Shane's body relaxes completely into that hold, mumbling that he's fine yet not pulling away and Rozanov makes no move to let go either.

Oh, Yuna thinks again, gripping David's hand tightly. It's not just Shane. My baby is in love. And he's loved back.

teenage shane who learns that his girlfriends expect hugs and kisses and holding hands and an arm around their shoulders, who has already learned that he's the one in the wrong for not wanting to. teenage shane who's just gotten used to teammates giving him high-fives or fistbumps or pats on the back. teenage shane who sees physical affection as a box to check in to be a good friend, good boyfriend, good teammate. teenage shane who never really stopped feeling like a bad kid for not wanting to.

young adult shane, who meets ilya and for once doesn't have to brace himself for a handshake. who goes for a second without thinking about it. young adult shane who lets ilya grab his face and push him into walls and for the first time in his life skin-to-skin contact doesn't hurt, for the first time in his life he's comfortable letting someone touch him and for the first time in his life he's touching them too and going back for more, and maybe he's finally not a bad kid anymore.

adult shane who's in a relationship with ilya, who's having a bad day and for the first time avoids ilya's touch. and he's so scared that he's a bad kid again, that he was getting better and now he's ruined it, he's failed to check the boxes of good boyfriend, so he tries again to lean into ilya, but it feels like his skin is crawling and he can't do it. ilya who notices and moves away, and shane is so sure this is the end, but instead ilya looks at him and asks what's wrong and listens when shane explains that he can't do physical contact right now and asks what he can do to help, and shane realizes maybe he wasn't a bad kid in the first place.

I’m currently obsessed with the idea of Ilya’s niece going to college in Canada and reconnecting with him. But have we CONSIDERED. Ruby Pike excitedly bringing home her girlfriend for the first time. Hayden and Jackie doing their oversupportive ally parent thing freaking out over making the perfect dinner. Hayden opens the door to his daughter hand-in-hand with a tall girl with curly blonde hair and a very familiar smirk. She introduces herself as Irina Rozanova and Hayden’s blood runs COLD. Jackie and Irina are already queening out. Hayden’s still standing at the front door in shock. The possibilities here are hilarious and I demand more Pike daughter/Rozanov niece fics immediately

The funniest part about the zukka stuff is that we never expected anything to be canon. It’s basically been like 20 years since the original show. They killed Sokka in Korra, so like we’ve all just been playing with our dolls, having fun, with no worries about the canon material, and then boom, here’s free cake, you weird little guys, because there was a leak. That leak just came with free yaoi subtext that you didn’t even want or need. Truly it’s great but also we’re all freaking out cause no one expected them to give us anything never mind free cake.
