@elliewilsonplaycreate-blog
My group said they thought that this video is good as the lights in the subway are effective aswell as the window reflection of inside the train gives a visual effect.
Here's a little experiment I did on my iPhone of my group walking to the beach!
This was an experiment done on my iPhone using a stop motion app called 'iMotionHD'. I did some test videos and thought the quality was great and also the app lets you edit the video with choosing the fps which is handy. When we transferred this video to the macs we couldn't seem to use it in iStopMotion as the format was QuickTime only which we were disappointed about, as it would have worked really well.
Editing day, final amendments
So today as we have captured enough filming, we started focussing on what parts of the filming we wanted and what parts either didn't fit together well or work. When we had chosen our groups of images Shaun then started to edit the image frames together in iStopMotion, as its where his skills excel best in. While he did that, Beci and I went back to her flat to capture the ending of her waking up. I captured the different image frames and I rather enjoyed it, using different angles and close ups of the camera. Then once we had finished we went back into the studio and transferred the images to Shaun. I then discussed with my group on what songs I had come up with, which I thought could work in sync well with the video. A famous DJ called Deadmau5 is where I found most music as it has various changing music! It had to be rather calm but up beat rhythm to work well. We finally as a group chosen a song and turned out better than any of the other songs.
Filming at Cathedral & Museum
Well as we had written a list of places that would represent dreams in well, we thought the cathedral was ideal for filming high up in the sky as if you would be falling or flying high. When we got there we got many more ideas of filming various things inside the cathedral such as the windows to the ceilings to give a weird or creepy essence to viewers as some dreams can be very eary. It was good to experiment in there as we found useful parts that could work together such as using the elevator numbers to each floor and having Beci sat in the chairs at the alter, just to play around with. At the museum we not just gained more knowledge on nature and world cultures but also did our project at the same time which was fun. We visited each floor section which were an aquarium, world culture, dinosaurs and bugs! We didn't really know what we could have filmed at the museum but once we got there and saw everything our minds instantly opened with ideas. We found particular floor patterns projected onto the floor which worked well as we captured Beci falling and being dragged in her dream showing her gradually waking up. Overall the frames we got, some were great some we didn't use but was playful to do.
So the past few days we've been filming at various places around Liverpool, Crosby beach and even managed to go to Southport! While filming I've realised how fun it is to just go with the flow on ideas instead of sticking to a storyboard as its very limiting. So we just did ideas at the time and worked out well, using different shots of close ups and long distance ones. Also using some 360 panorama shots we used it as a visual effect of dreaming as it captures the weird essence. The day before we started filming in Beci's flat to capture Beci falling asleep into her dream. We then brought some of her bedroom objects to life to show a fun creative side. After filming so far, I've found it a lot of fun as its not limited, has no boundaries and you can take it as far as you want. The only thing I dislike about doing is how cold the weather has been as most of the time were outside.
So recently we came up with an idea inspired by a video I researched on YouTube through 'stop motion dreams'. As I watched this video it captured the theme of dreams well and was visually effective with all the different frames. As its a stop motion movie you can experiment with various ideas and effects of movement. I loved how the different pieces of music synced well with the guy miming and moving the same time. We have been discussing all of our thoughts of what we could film. We decided to follow the videos idea of starting the film with someone falling asleep to instantly show the audience it's a dream. We then shared ideas of certain places we could film at such as the beach as its such an open empty calm space where thoughts are released. Also we want to film areas around town such as the train station, university and just try to capture places known in someones dream. As we are starting filming tomorrow we've encountered a problem with the weather here and have heavy snowfall. If would effect our film perhaps with the fact all places we film in all look familiar with snow everywhere. But it could work as it looks dreamy. Hopefully that the snow would melt and we can film different scenes instead of having an occurrence of snow as it would look boring and repetitive.
Past few days - Ideas, Research
Over the past week or so we've been discussing all the various ideas we came up with and together we decided one to choose and explore further more in. Since we settled down on the idea we went home and individually thought of more ideas but as our subject of dreams is so large and has no limitations we got frustrated at how complex our idea would be to do and the amount of time it would take to produce. This has happened with at least several ideas we've come up with but now we think we have tackled the problems and narrowed our ideas down to one we can do.
I think my group are great to work with as we are all very committed and determined to create the most playful project. We all communicate well through facebook over christmas and we work well together in the studio discussing our research into our ideas aswell.
Our different ideas are all based around the same topic of 'Dreams' but we've constantly changed thoughts on all our ideas we came up with because their either to complex, large or too long to create in the amount of time were set in the brief.
Live 4D Projection - This is a video of a live DJ set called Deadmau5 and for his visual set he has a 4D projection on a building in London to promote the new Nokia Lumia 800. When i watched this i thought it was visually very effective and impressive of how they projected a sequence of images on a very large scale. This is very similar to our idea of projecting our dreams out to an audience. I absolutely love this video as the music synced in well with the projections and made me realise that adding sound is vital to a piece of work like this.
Its all about Art - Recoil
Found this video of 2 people collaborating experimenting the idea of safety. They both burst balloons different ways to see their reactions and how their reflexes work. I found it rather amusing watching the face expressions they pull to the reaction of popping balloons!
ACCESS - I found this video of playful interactive work by Marie Sester and thought i was rather amusing how it works. Its an installation that gives web users opportunity to track individuals with a robotic hover spotlight tracking their footsteps. I thought the way it communicates to the audience and aswell as the web users is amazing. The way that the spotlight follows their footsteps is rather amusing as they become paranoid to either think your being watched or highly annoyed it following.
Colour Gun Project - I thought this project was amazing how they made this interactive project by using a video camera, a projector, a wii remote, sound editing programs and using a laptop running a programme called Max, MSP, Jitter. I love the way the blood its colourful pixels which makes it look like a game.
