Okay so been rewatching dhmis again as I should be in my free time.

And I think red guy represents yellow guys shy older brother before the house/car thing happened. This one is just a hunch based off of the end of episode 3 where red calls yellow "brother" And just his general vibes.

Also, red guy being the oldest child in an abusive household makes sense to me. Red guy sees what's happening with the family dynamic turning them against each other while also forcing them together I. Repeating conflicts with no escape is kind of relatable with that. Maybe I'm just pprojecting.

Makes Lesley's line about them always returning back home in the end very extra fucked up.

Roy is the abusive father clearly. And Lesley is the micromanaging mom. I don't know if she is also abusive or just enables Roy but she's definitely complacent. The doll house thing, the deciding what they learn and how they act, the whole making the family into a production funded by asshole Roy is something a mom in denial of how awful her life is would do.

Not that I've seen it in action.

Duck is definitely the dog mashed together with an older relative probably a grandfather. In the second episode the lamp mentions how sometimes people believe that people get reincarnated as their favorite animal, the grandfather could have loved the family pet a lot. I am hypothesizing the existence of a grandfather due to all the references to a military past for duck and how he's always in a rocking chair. We also always see duck as the one who is constantly being replaced which is common for pets especially for the ones of small children.

Yellow guy being a representation for Lesley's dead son is the one that makes the most sense to me based off the evidence. If you have a better theory please present evidence and talk me up.

I noticed that the agreed upon symbols that are the characters each have a stylized drawing of each of them included in the squiggles and I think that's pretty cool.

Red guy is yellow guys brother is probably adopted.

Roy is probably neglectful if not abusive and I think he was taking care of duck as a pet when he died of dehydration/"forgetting" to drink water. Grolton kinda looks like roy and grolton refused to give hovris any water in episode 4 when he needs to get to his dental appointment for his gum disease, which we also see Roy in disguise with absolutely terrible gums.

I need to go through everything grolton and hovris appearance to figure out any possible theory clues.

If it's not clear I'm dumping things here

I don't know if I put this idea on tumblr but Lesley was probably drunk when she ran over her son. Actually I think I did put it here. Anyway I think she probably started drinking because of either grief of grandpa dying, grief from her first son drowning, or just self medicating from Roy's bull shit.

Maybe red guy is an uncle.

I stopped watching the episodes and started watching bo Burnham and the theories are fading.

Ok maybe red guy wasn't living directly in yellow guy's house but perhaps he was a neighbour, that used to spend quite a lot of time with the Gribblestones. I thought about him driving into the lake because he seems really happy/comfortable while driving, but it's just a thought, but yeah deffinitely a suicide.

Those theories are a lot of fun but when you look at dhmis as a whole experience and from a diffrent perspective, the "theory" that makes the most sense is that the creators are just making shitpost from their personal life with a bit of actual story telling. Just look at their older art and you can see bits&parts that made their way into dhmis and I think that's wonderfull. The whole show can be read as experience for the viewer, a great art performance to get our imaginations up and running.

A lot of people tend to forget that the whole purpose of any form of art is to be interpreted in endless ways, it means something else to everyone. That"s the one thing that seperates a simple object(with given meaning and purpose) from a work of art. The ability to look at something and see it in diffrent way everytime you gaze upon it.

Okay so episode five is really cool, and it has cool little details everywhere, my theory is that lamp wasn't speaking absolute nonsens. Also i think that because yellow guy can't tell who is the dog and who is the human in grolton&hovrice he and the dhmis world also can't tell if duck is a pet or a human, that's why he is shown the way he is.

THE GLOVES (part 3)

Since Hunter is canonicaly mentally distressed lets just throw this image here real quick.

It's quite obvious that Flapjack is a support animal and their presence is beneficial for Hunter's well being. They love eachother dearly and share a deep bond. Kepping that in mind it's also an option that the protigy keeps wearing the gloves even after leaving the coven because of the little rascal.

Since i've already established the wonders of gloves and numerous ways they can and will make your hands the most efficient, let's add one last thing to the list of good reasons to keep the hand coverings at you at all times. That thing is withstanding the grossness that surrounds all of us (im especially thinking about you Dadrius) and also touching all of those weird surfaces, yuck. AND DEFENDING YOURSELF FROM THE LICK ATTACK.

If Luz did the same thing to the golden guard he would be unfazed with her strange antics because gloves.

THE GLOVES ( part 2)

Let's also not forget dear Lily. Look at her then look at the nice and secure golden guard all wrapped up in his golden suit.

All fancy nails. We get it you don't stress bite them. (But seriously i adore her)

Okay we already see that gloves are an important item in the emperor's coven. So lets acknowledge that the Emperor himself has the most fanciest gloves.

I think that Belos wears them to keep himself in human shape. Like all of his armour looks like it was designed fo that specific purpose. Gross, rotting goop man. But when the day of unity comes and we see his naked fleshy hands it becomes quite clear that Philip had some snacks earlier and that he doesn't need the full body protection since he clearly could deflect every attack luz threw upon him. Yet without his golden hand condom he gets branded with a sigil which said armour would probably protect him from. Defenitely not a big brain time for peepaw.

So lets summarize a few thing.

Coven scouts wear gloves for protection & better grip on things (so the staff won't slip out of their greasy hands *ekhm* luz)

Kikimora and Lilith think they are above the glove policy because of their fancy hands

Belos uses them to try to keep the goop at bay and in his superior human shape

What about Hunter you may ask? Well the golden guard is a type of a scout himself so there's the most obvious answer. But we have seen multiple times that Hunter shows some kind of discomfort whenever his hand is touched in a certain way. Which none of the other characters in the show have displayed. Our boy for sure has some trauma regarding his hands. We all know that he is full of trauma. In one scene in particular, when he picks up a dead palisman, his hand starts trembling.

What if those tremors weren't a one time thing. If that's the case then it's possible that his gloves are also meant to help with this condition or hide other type of device keeping his hands stable. Something like these:

It would be a resonable explanation to bringing attention to his hands and more interesting in my opinion then scars which hunter has enough of.
