Fishing Encounter
I went fishing for the first time since coming back to NZ in February. Myself and my friend took a 20 minute drive out to a place called 'Seatoun' where there was a long pier which was in operation at only two points in a day. This made it seem like an ideal spot to cast from (we later found out it wasn't due to the lack of fish) and we caught a fish after a bit of standing around. It was hard to describe the fish we caught other than a very prominent spot on it's side. After examining it for a short while we released it back into the sea so as not to kill it. It was more for the thrill of the catch as opposed to a need for food.
The next day we returned to the same spot. As I stood there with my fishing rod an elderly man came up to me. For all intensive purposes the gentleman looked homeless but I knew he was just a fisherman. As he approached me I knew what to expect, the classic fisherman's conversation. A brief interchange of short sentences with the opening line "had any luck?" or words to that affect and then some chit-chat about where's good to fish or what bait to use (always squid or pilchard as that's all that they sell)... "had any luck?" he asked in a gruff, blunt New Zealand accent. I replied politely, 'no not particularly, although we did catch a fish yesterday, i'm not sure what it was though...' I paused, 'It had a spot on its side'
"AW YEA, SPOTTY." 'Oh right, what's that?' I inquired, he looked me up and down and then simply replied, "you're not from round here are you?"
We didn't go back to the spot after this.
Me and Ishah the red panda, you can see Amy's fat bum in the background. Every time I look at this photo I remember how awesome they were! Red Panda's smell fantastic by the way.
This is the room I spent most of my time. It was tiny and amazingly clean (thanks to me). I washed a lot of glasses in here. A LOT. I would definitely say it was in the tens of thousands. Each tray held about 30 glasses and there was plenty of trays going through that machine every night so it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest...
With my pal Chris again. My glass washing mentor.
Here is a picture of me with some of the bar staff that I worked with. A great bunch of people! had some really fun times there but 4am finishes are just not the one for me...

A Brief Recap
So over the last month or so my posts have been few and far apart, this is mainly due to the fact that I have been working (almost) full-time. My first post about the job seems a distant memory now. I enjoyed my time working at Dragonfly as it is a brilliant establishment! However it interfered with my sleeping patterns due to it being a bar job so it partially affected my time here. Having said that, without money I wouldn't have been able to enjoy myself as much. This coming Tuesday will be my last shift there which will be a relief for me. I am planning on travelling up to Auckland to see my friend Terry and spend some time with him.
So far my two months in Wellington has consisted of work, occasionally drinking and plenty of fishing! Amongst these activities I have dabbled in tourist activities such as a visit to Karori bird sanctuary and Wellington Zoo.
